He is among the richest people in the world as a result of his successful business ventures. In 1964, Bezos was born in New Mexico, where he studied computer science and electrical engineering at Princeton University. In 1990, he became the youngest senior vice president in the history of the investment firm D.E. Shaw. After leaving his lucrative job, Bezos opened Amazon.com, an online bookstore that would become a major success story on the Internet. In 2013, Bezos acquired The Washington Post, and in 2017, Amazon acquired Whole Foods.
