hi everyone Anna kler here with a new
0:13
video tutorial and today I'm going to
0:15
show you two ways to paint abstract
0:17
patterns on
0:19
canvas so I have here my canvas and when
0:23
you make an abstract pattern anything
0:27
goes you don't have to follow any rules
0:30
or
0:31
any design since it is abstract and it
0:35
doesn't need to resemble anything so I'm
0:38
just adding three colors onto my canvas
0:43
just like
0:45
that directly on the
0:49
canvas and then I'm going to use a brush
0:51
to spread them
0:55
around this is going to be the first
0:58
layer and I'm mixing them on the canvas
1:03
itself you can use a sponge brush or
1:06
just a regular
1:09
brush whatever you like and I'm changing
1:12
the direction of the brush as I
1:14
go and this looks really cool when the
1:17
paint
1:20
dries because you can see the brush
1:23
strokes and the different directions
1:25
that I made
1:28
them
1:30
so this is the first layer colors are
1:33
mixed directly on the
1:40
canvas just going to make sure that it
1:42
is dry before I add the second layer I'm
1:45
going to use the exact same colors but
1:48
this
1:49
time instead of using a brush I'm going
1:52
to use an old plastic card that I don't
1:55
need
1:56
anymore a gift card a credit card
1:59
whatever you have and I'm just going to
2:02
spread the paint
2:05
around but only in a few sections of the
2:09
canvas I'm not going to spread them all
2:11
around I'm going to use the card to
2:14
create patterns or
2:16
stripes on the paint
2:21
itself I'm keep I keep using the same
2:24
colors to add more patterns and I have
2:28
these really cool brushes
2:31
that I can
2:33
make patterns
2:35
with
2:37
so this
2:39
is the third way already the first way
2:42
was just adding the paint with the brush
2:45
the second way on this canvas was to use
2:48
the old plastic card and the third way
2:50
is to use different types of
2:53
brushes to add your paint and create
2:56
extra patterns on the surface so they
2:59
can be lined lines they can be curves
3:01
they can be dots circles whatever you
3:07
want and you can put them any way you
3:10
want on
3:12
your canvas again you don't need to
3:16
follow any clear
3:19
design because this is abstract
3:26
patterns another technique is to just
3:31
pour paint and let it drip this paint is
3:35
diluted with a little bit of water so it
3:37
will be really liquid and it will really
3:41
easily drip around the
3:44
page using my plastic card to add a
3:47
little bit more of that paint on the
3:49
side I need more control if I want
3:53
to the paint to be in specific
3:58
places so I don't let it drip this time
4:01
I'm using the card just to add it here
4:05
and
4:07
there and the best tool of all is my
4:11
fingers just want to add a few
4:15
circles so I use my finger to do
4:20
that and then I think the canvas will be
4:25
ready really like how that turned
4:28
out
4:35
so we have five different ways on this
4:38
canvas to add the
4:40
patterns and you can see that it's also
4:43
about
4:48
layering just adding a little bit of a
4:51
definition on the
4:54
edges and the great thing about an
4:57
abstract
4:58
canvas just want to add a few more dots
5:02
the great thing about an abstract canvas
5:04
is
5:05
that since there is no definition or
5:09
there's no specific
5:12
images you can turn it around it doesn't
5:15
have to be in this
5:18
direction I'm going to try to turn it
5:21
around when we're finished and see how
5:23
it
5:25
looks so it can be this
5:28
way it can also be
5:33
turned 90 Dees to the right to the left
5:36
or 180 degrees you can decide whatever
5:41
Direction you want it to be because this
5:43
is
5:44
abstract so you have all the details
5:47
here all the little dots and the circles
5:49
and the strips and the lines and the
5:51
layers they're all combined to a pattern
5:56
so if we turn it is it better do you
5:59
like like it better it's up to you when
6:01
you finish you can turn the canvas in
6:03
any direction that you
6:06
want and
6:08
decide this is the magic of abstract
6:11
patterns and abstract painting on a
6:17
canvas all four directions look really
6:22
pretty okay so now I want to show you
6:25
another way to create patterns to paint
6:29
abstract patterns on
6:32
canvas I'm going to cover the canvas
6:35
with some paper
6:37
first this is going to be the first
6:42
layer we're going to cover it with
6:45
paint later but still don't want the
6:48
canvas to be completely white so I'm
6:51
using Mod Podge or gel medium to cover
6:54
it including the
6:58
sides
7:00
then I'm also going to add another layer
7:02
on the top and this technique is really
7:05
really
7:07
cool we are going to use
7:10
Vaseline just the regular kind that you
7:13
buy at the
7:16
pharmacy going to apply it with my
7:21
finger just smear it on the canvas here
7:24
and there in different directions it
7:26
doesn't matter where just don't cover
7:27
the entire canvas just just part of
7:34
it and then you're going to see magic
7:37
we're going to cover the canvas with
7:39
some regular acrylic paint never mind
7:43
whatever brush you're
7:45
using it's just cover
7:49
it paint all over the
7:52
canvas with a color of your
7:58
choice
8:05
and then wait a few seconds until it's
8:09
dry it should be completely
8:12
dry and then bring a paper towel and
8:15
simply wipe
8:17
off the paint now what is happening here
8:22
the paint doesn't stick to the canvas
8:25
where the Vaseline was because of the
8:28
oily surface of the
8:30
dazzling that prevented the paint from
8:33
adhering to the canvas so when you wipe
8:36
it off the paint
8:39
simply goes away so now we're going to
8:42
create another layer again apply vling
8:45
and this time we're going to add a
8:48
different color so we used
8:50
red I'm going to use some
8:53
yellow and again this is why we
8:56
don't spread the Vaseline all over the
8:59
the canvas because we want Parts where
9:01
the paint adheres to the canvas and then
9:04
Parts where we can remove the
9:07
paint so again make sure it's
9:11
dry and then remove it with a dry paper
9:15
towel Isn't that
9:18
cool and then I'm going to add a third
9:22
layer again apply some
9:26
Vaseline and then add another layer
9:31
this time let's use some
9:34
blue some light
9:36
blue again you can use whatever color
9:39
combination that you
9:42
want just making sure that I don't miss
9:44
any parts where the vaselin is so I'm
9:47
covering those parts specifically with
9:49
the
9:50
paint and then remove
9:53
it this is so
9:55
cool so now that I have my abstract
9:58
pattern on the canvas I can go ahead
10:02
and add whatever I want on the canvas
10:05
I'm just going to add some text some
10:09
words excuse
10:17
me and this is how it looks when it's
10:20
finished I've added the word
10:23
imagine and the
10:26
words
10:28
art and Inspire some of the art is
10:33
stencl the Inspire word is written and
10:36
the Imagine are just chipboard letters
10:38
and they're different directions so I
