hi everyone an Kesler here with a new video tutorial and today I'm going to show you three ways to make Christmas
0:16
box cards have all the measurements for all the pieces of card stock in the free
0:22
print cutting guide that you can download from the link in the description under the video so let's get
0:29
started you take our two pieces and you score them on the long side on the 2 in
0:36
and 5 and 1/2 then you turn them around and score them in the center on the 4
0:43
in repeat that on the other piece score at two and 5 and
0:49
A2 and then turn it around and score it on the 4
0:56
in then you need to bring your two strips and score them on 3/4 of an inch on both
1:06
sides on both strips so that will be 3/4 of an inch on the left
1:13
side and four and a/4 on the right
1:19
side that's all the scoring that we need next step is to do some cutting
1:26
with your scissors so you take your 4x6 square and
1:32
then you cut alongside the vertical fold lines up
1:40
until the center fold line and you repeat that on both
1:46
pieces from the bottom Edge toward the center fold
1:52
line and that will be the part that makes the box and then you remove that
1:59
little piece by cutting it diagonally again cut
2:07
diagonally and create that small tab that this is going to connect the two pieces to form the
2:15
box so now Place some glue apply glue on
2:21
the outside of the tab and attach it to the other piece
2:31
this will again form the box and then you apply
2:38
glue to the outer side of the other Tab and fold the other piece over to
2:46
close both pieces into a box now you need to bdish all the folds
2:55
of the Box this is our little rectangle
3:01
box fold the two small tabs and one
3:06
large tab on the outside like this the back tab is going to stay
3:12
upright next you're going to bring your two strips fold on the fold
3:20
lines and apply glue to both tabs got my glue
3:27
bottle clogged there for a minute and then you glue them inside the Box
3:34
aligned with the back side of the box and the
3:40
top to make sure that it is
3:45
straight like this and then the second strip is going
3:51
to go in front of the first strip aligned with the edges as well
4:00
a little tricky but this is what you should end up
4:06
with and these little strips are what we're going to add our popup shapes
4:14
to make sure that it's secure and then you need qu of an
4:19
inch transparencies or window
4:25
sheets that we are going to attach the shapes to now the length doesn't really matter
4:33
because we're going to adjust the length so we won't go over the edge the
4:41
top edge of the back of the box so I'm going to attach the shapes
4:48
with those transparencies strips going to use glue
4:55
dots going to use two glue dots
5:01
to attach my shapes I just cut some images from the pattern
5:08
paper of Santa and children and this is going to go in here so I just want to
5:14
make sure that the strips are not too long because again we don't want the
5:20
shapes to go over the top edge of the back panel there because it does fit
5:27
into an envelope when it's closed so I'm aligning the shape
5:36
with the card stock strip and just cutting away the excess
5:44
of the transparency and this is how it looks also cut some little stamps to go
5:52
in the back and again I'm using glue dots to
5:57
attach the stamps to the transparency and then I'm also going to use the glue
6:04
dots to attach the transparency to the Box itself you can attach them in an
6:15
angle to make sure that it's nice and
6:27
festive final one
6:34
and just add two more glue dots and attach that to the right side
6:43
here then I have this little wreath that I want to add to the
6:49
back but before that I need to cover the backs I'm going to remove
6:58
that and it later so now I'm going to
7:03
cover all the panels of the box with pattern paper
7:10
that I cut and basically add my wreath and then
7:16
basically my box will be ready of course you can
7:21
add more embellishments more shapes just give it your own personal
7:28
touch adding whatever it is that you want to add to make it your
7:35
own and I would write on this panel here if you want to write on it then you can
7:42
do it before you attach it or you can just add a printed um statement or a
7:52
sticker and basically our card is ready so I really like how this card turned out you can flatten it put it in an
7:58
envelope and send it and now we can go ahead and make our second card with a
8:08
box so let's get started with 8 and 1/2 by 5 1/2 piece of double-sided card
8:14
stock we're going to fold it in half you have to decide which part you want which color you want to show on the
8:22
outside I think I'm going to go with red and then once we fold that in half
8:29
we're going to align the top folded half with the trimmer and the left side we're going to
8:37
align with 2 and 1/2 in like this so we're going to align
8:44
this with 2 and 1/2 and then we're going to use the trimmer to
8:49
cut all the way from the top to 2 in like
8:57
this okay so that's that's one cut next we're
9:02
going to align the right side of the card with 1
9:08
inch and again from the top we're going to cut all the way down
9:13
to 2 in so this is what we're going to have and then finally you're just going to cut in
9:21
between the two cut lines to remove that piece all
9:27
together so what we did we basically cut out a 2X two square out of the card
9:32
while it's folded so this is what we have and this is going to be the space for our
9:40
box which we're going to make next again you have all the measurements for all
9:45
the pieces in the cutting guide that you can download from the link in the description under the
9:51
video so next we're going to take our 6x6 piece and create four score line
10:00
going to align this with 2 in and then score and do that on all
10:07
four sides so align it with 2 in and then score on all four
10:15
sides what we're doing is creating the base of the
10:21
box and these are going to be the
10:26
walls next we're going to bring this 3x3 Square going to align it with half an
10:35
inch and score it on all four sides this is going to be the lid of the
10:44
box so again align it with half an inch and score on all four sides this is
10:53
a really cool card to make the only problem is that it doesn't fit inside an
10:59
Ang envelope because you can't fold the box so it's a really nice card to give
11:04
to somebody in person and I'm sure they'll be really happy to
11:10
receive it so now we're going to cut along the fold lines from The
11:16
Edge to the fold line like this on one
11:22
side and then on the other side from The Edge to the fold line to the horizontal
11:27
fold line along the vertical fold line we're cutting the vertical fold line all the way to the
11:33
horizontal fold line and then we're going to fold along all the fold lines that we
11:40
did with the
11:45
scoring go ahead and burnish all the folds with a bone
11:52
folder and then we can go ahead and assemble the box which is really easy
12:00
we have those tabs that are going to close and make the walls of the Box I've
12:06
just reversed the direction of the folds because I want that white part to show on the
12:12
outside so what we're going to do now you see this is how the Box looks really
12:17
easy so what we're going to do is apply glue to the center tab of each of the
12:27
sides while it's folded towards the inside so we're basically putting the glue on the
12:34
outside of that paper Tab and then we're going to complete
12:41
this wall with the last tab like
12:46
this then we're going to repeat it and do the exact same thing on the other side apply the glue and attach the walls
12:53
on both sides to form our box
12:59
now you can use this box to fill it with chocolates with jewelry with money with
13:06
all three of them with what with whatever you want so this can also be a
13:11
gift and a card in one so it's really cool let that dry and let's make our lid
13:18
we're going to cut again along the vertical fold lines all the way to the
13:24
horizontal fold line on both sides the exact same same thing we did
13:29
with the Box fold all
13:35
the score lines and then we're going to apply glue
13:42
and attach all the walls of the lid now if you want to cover the
13:51
lid on the top it will be easier to do before you
13:57
assemble it CU once it's assembled it gets a
14:04
3D um shape that might be a little
14:09
bit difficult to attach papers on but it can be done so you apply glue to the
14:15
little tabs and attach them to the large adjacent tab to form the
14:24
lid again do the same thing on the other side apply glue
14:29
and attach it to the large tab large wall of the
14:37
lid then you need to let it dry for a little bit so it won't move and the lid
14:43
will be strong to close the Box align everything make it
14:52
straight and this is how it goes on top of the box
15:01
Isn't that cool it's really fun and cute again you can fill it with whatever you
15:07
want next I'm going to embellish the front of the card again you have all the
15:13
measurements in The Cutting guide that you can download from the link in the description under the
15:21
video I'm just going to apply glue to the back side of this little
15:26
square to cover the
15:35
lid so you see you can still cover it but if you want you can do this part before you assemble the
15:42
lid next I'm going to take all these three stripes and attach them to the
15:50
front of the card and embellish
15:55
it I'm using the same colors and patterns that that I have on the box so
16:00
everything will match obviously since you're not going to fit
16:05
that card in an envelope then you can add whatever type of embellishments that you want in the front of the car they
16:12
can be thick they can be chipboard it won't interfere with putting it inside
16:18
an envelope or something so you can go wild with whatever kind of embellishments you want to add to the
16:25
front of the card so I'm adding this piece as
16:32
[Music] well and finally the brighter piece brighter
16:42
stripe and I think I'm also going to add this one is slightly too long so I'm
16:48
just going to cut it with my scissors I like to use leftover paper
16:55
pieces or scraps for embellishing the front of my card so some times they are a bit too big so I need
17:02
to trim them to size and I'm going to add a little
17:07
sticker as well here and then I'm going to show you how
17:13
that looks when it's open and assembled let's close the box and you simply insert the box in the
17:21
Gap in the card while it's opened like
17:27
this and and then they stand together that is really really
17:33
cool this card is really fun so now we can go ahead and learn how to make our
17:39
third card with three popup boxes it's really easy to make so we're going to
17:46
take piece a and we're going to score it on the short side at half an inch and 3 in so
17:56
we've done these uh popup boxes this before like I said I'm going to add the
18:02
link so you can have that as a reference as well and then on the long side we're
18:09
going to score piece a at half an inch 3 in and 5 and 1/2
18:20
in you have a diagram for the all the The Cutting and folding of
18:29
the two parts that make the popup box in the description in The Cutting guide and
18:35
instructions so it's easier to follow that so now we're going to cut along the
18:40
lines again you have the all the the diagram the pattern printed
18:49
there so it will be easier to follow it's a little bit hard to see on the white card
18:55
stock or any other card stock it's a little bit difficult to
19:02
see but when you look at the diagram in the instructions it's going to be really
19:08
easy to follow so I'm going to cut along the red
19:15
lines in the diagram like
19:21
this and then this is piece a and we're going to make piece B
19:29
so this is how it looks so what we're going to do is fold
19:36
it so you have two tabs up here we're going to fold
19:46
those and then we're going to fold the triangle like that towards the
19:54
inside then we're going to fold the bottom to the top
20:01
top like this corner to
20:08
corner and then we're going to turn the piece and fold corner to
20:16
corner all that little triangle there aligning the right Edge like
20:25
this so this is piece a the first one now we're going to to do piece B we're
20:30
going to score it on the short side at half an inch and 3
20:38
in and again at 5 and 1/2 and on the long side we're going to
20:45
score it at 2 and 1/2 and
20:50
five that's all the scoring that we need to do and again we're going to cut
20:56
Corners according to the the diagram that you
21:03
have basically The Cutting is
21:08
similar again you're going to look at the diagram and it's going to look
21:14
much
21:20
clearer but basically the end shape is going to look similar to the first one
21:27
that we
21:34
did basically we use the score lines as guides where to
21:43
cut we either cut diagonally between corners or we cut along the score line
21:49
like this okay so we're going to fold this piece similarly to what we
21:56
did we're going to fold the bottom triangle and the tab that we now have on
22:04
the bottom as well and then we're going to fold the
22:09
top Tab and now corner to corner like we did in the first
22:19
piece always burnish your folds with a bone folder and we're going to open the
22:24
shape turn it and fold our little triangle corner corner to corner along
22:30
the right Edge The Straight Edge like this so now we have our
22:37
two shapes folded scored and folded so what we're going to do is
22:44
we're going to align them but first we're going to make some
22:51
holes so we're going to fold our shape and then Mark a DOT about a/4 of
22:58
an inch from both
23:04
edges like this and then we're going to punch a hole where we marked our
23:11
DOT this way we have two
23:17
holes on either side of that score line you can see we have a triangle I'm going
23:24
to draw it for you we have a triangle with a center score line and now we have
23:32
the two holes on either side of the score
23:38
line now we're going to go with our scissors slightly to the left of the
23:43
left hole cut about halfway and then diagonally towards the hole we're going
23:50
to do the exact same thing on the right cut about halfway and then
23:56
diagonally like this we're going to do the exact same thing on the other shape this is where our
24:04
rubber band is going to go the popup effect of the box is achieved by adding
24:12
a rubber band and we're going to insert that band
24:18
to the holes okay so now we're going to align our two
24:24
shapes we're going to put the triangles
24:30
facing out and the left piece needs to have this tab
24:37
here and this piece has no tab so we're going to apply glue on the
24:43
tab on the left piece and then
24:50
attach the right piece to it like this looks like a bat I like to fold it
24:57
to make sure that it doesn't interfere with the folding now we're going to fold the
25:06
bottom like this along the score line it's already there and the other side as
25:15
well and now we're going to insert the diagonal line like
25:25
this to align the square again if it's hard for you to see with
25:31
[Music] the white paper I'll put a reference to another
25:38
tutorial where I'm using black card stock it might be easier to see so we're
25:43
going to apply glue to the tab and attach the two squares
25:49
together like this and then you see we have two triangles on each side
25:58
this is the rubber band it's about one and a half
26:05
inches in diameter so we're going to push the triangles towards the inside on
26:10
both edges like
26:16
this always burnish and then we're going to insert
26:21
the rubber band inside through the cuts that we did inside to the
26:29
holes like
26:36
this so we're going to insert it one side and then insert it to the other
26:44
side so you see you can
26:50
feel that it's working so now we have the tabs here
26:56
we're going to apply glue on the tabs and then close the two triangles and
27:01
then our box will be ready so this is the first triangle make
27:07
sure it's aligned when you attach it and of course make sure everything is
27:13
dry before you'll see that the popup effect works cuz if it's not dry it's going to be opened
27:24
completely so once everything is glued and dry just wait a few
27:33
seconds you push the diagonal lines towards the inside like this and this is
27:40
how the Box looks when it's flat and when you leave it it pops up Isn't that
27:46
cool so you're going to need three boxes like
27:51
this and then we're going to cover them and attach them to our cards and they're
27:56
going to look like presents popping up when we open the
28:02
cards the card sorry so you have the bottom part that you
28:09
don't need to cover make sure that when you flat the box it flattens towards you
28:17
like this it's very important because later this is the direction that we're going to attach the box to the
28:25
card make sure that it flattens like this towards
28:30
you and then cover all the sides except the bottom the bottom is going to be glued
28:38
to the card obviously so where you have squares you
28:44
cover with squares and when you have the sides you need to cut to cut each of the
28:50
squares to four little triangles and then cover the area of the
28:57
folded side so it won't interfere with the folding that's why we have four
29:04
little triangles and then add an
29:11
embellishment if you want this one is slightly too big I'm going
29:16
to just trim it a little
29:23
bit so I'm putting the larger embellishment in the front front
29:28
and the smaller embellishment on the top cuz the top is going to be partially
29:35
covered it's going to make sense in a minute okay so I have
29:43
also cover the other two boxes the other two boxes are going to
29:49
be flattened away from you so the first box that was flattened towards you is
29:55
going to go on the top and the other two that are flattened away from you are going to go on the bottom so we're going
30:02
to cut to score the base of the card at 5 and 1/2 and
30:10
11 again you can use whatever color that you want for the
30:18
card I'm going to cover it with some cover papers and we're going to fold
30:33
and then cover the card with the cover
30:44
papers so you're going to need three of those and two smaller strips for the
30:50
bottom of the card
30:59
again it's up to you what pattern you want to [Music] use and I recommend to use a solid color
31:07
and then to add cover paper it makes it a little bit sturdier and you need that for the popup
31:16
effect just using one card stock might not be strong enough okay so now we're
31:22
going to attach the boxes so you have to align them perfectly so the card will be
31:28
able to close so like I said the two boxes that are going to be flattened
31:33
away from you are going to be on the bottom so you apply glue to the bottom
31:40
where you didn't cover and then attach them while they're
31:47
flat to the card making sure that they don't pop off the
31:55
sides they can be slightly in an angle like this so I'm making sure I have
32:00
enough room for the other box as well and then I'm going to attach
32:07
that and then the top box is the box that is going to be
32:13
flattened towards you I'm going to show you how to attach
32:20
it we're going to attach it only to the left
32:25
box only so we're going to apply glue so this one
32:32
is going to be flattened like
32:38
this so we're going to attach it just apply
32:46
glue and partially on the
32:51
bottom and then we're going to attach it only to the left box
32:59
box like this this it looks like where everything is flat make sure it's
33:05
aligned with the score lines on the top and the bottom
33:10
see so when you flatten it you flatten it like this you close the
33:17
card and then when you open it the presents just
33:22
pop Isn't that cool so I really hope you like this
33:27
tutorial please don't forget to subscribe to my channel and click on the little bell icon to be notified when I
33:32
upload a new video this is how you close it if it doesn't close you can add a magnet you
33:38
can add a closure what I did is added a little bit of
33:44
weight with embellishments and a card stock and that did the trick the weight
33:51
is enough to keep the card closed
