The 2022 Sunday Primer BMX Bike is built to last so that you can tear up your favorite riding spots. Designed to be an entry level bike, Sunday made sure to kit this model out to be able to withstand hard hits and abusive new tricks. Sealed bearings in high stress areas and chromoly cranks contribute to the strength and durability needed for a rider learning new tricks, and the lineup of Odyssey and Sunday parts add to the overall pro-level feel of the bike. The Sunday Primer Park is hard to look past for the amazing parts and great price.

What's up guys, Douglas from DougsterBob.com here. Today we're going to be taking a deep dive
0:06
into the 2022 Sunday Primer. I'm going to help you figure out if this is the right bike for you
0:11
what's good about it, what's bad about it, and so much more. So let's get right into the video
0:16
here are a few really important things that you need to know about the sunday primer this is a
0:32
beginner level bike it's not very high quality it's a little over 400 so i think it's slightly
0:40
overpriced and it's it doesn't come with any pegs hub guards free coaster it doesn't come with
0:45
anything dirt specific park specific it's just a really general basic bike someone wants to get on
0:52
it for the first time and get into BMX this is an okay choice but this bike's not right for everybody
0:57
and you know my mission here is to help you find the perfect bike with and get you into the sport
1:03
so at the end I'm going to be completely honest whether or not I would recommend it and then we're
1:09
going to talk about who the bike is actually for and see if it's right for you. So here's the thing
1:15
the 2022 Sunday Primer costs $429. It's a little over that $400 price point and it's on in stock
1:26
on Danscomp. So I saw it there, you can check it out, link in the bio, we'll send you over there
1:31
to buy it. Now I really do want to talk about the sizing and the color options. We'll dive deeper in
1:37
sizing in like a in the geometry section but for now this bike comes in a 20.00 inch top tube so if
1:45
you're familiar with the blueprint that was a pro for me is that the blueprint came in that size
1:49
it comes in a 20.5 inch top tube a 20.75 and a 21 inch top tube so you have a lot of different
1:58
options there it also comes in four different color options you can check that out on my review
2:02
page or on the product page but one thing that's interesting is that each color option is tied to a
2:09
size option so if you want the 21 inch in green like but it only comes in 20.5 you're only going
2:16
to be able to get green in 20.5 like you can't mix and match like you can with other bikes you know
2:22
sometimes you can get a 20.5 in black red and purple and then also a 21 in black red and purple
2:28
That's not how it's working with Sunday's 2022 lines, which is slightly disappointing
2:33
So you guys know I always stress it's so important to get the right size top tube
2:37
So please check out the size guide on my website and get the right size
2:43
Don't buy a 20.00 if you're six foot one. You're going to have the worst time learning and it's not going to work for you
2:50
So make sure you check out the size guide and make sure you get the right size if you decide to buy this bike
2:58
All right, so let's talk about the primer's quality. The quality of this bike, like I already mentioned, is not very good
3:05
Now, it's not the worst, but it's really pretty close. It has a high tensile steel frame, has high tensile steel forks, high tensile steel bars
3:14
single wall rims. It doesn come with anything really aftermarket like the Sunday freeze stem but that on every single bike that they have there nothing making this bike really stand out and like i already said it costs 430 dollars and it doesn have quality so like i don know we get more in depth here towards the end of
3:34
this video but i just think that that's overpriced i just think it's not very good quality for the
3:38
price you're paying it has an unsealed front wheel but it does have a sealed cassette in the back
3:43
which is okay. This bike weighs 25.8 pounds and it does not come with any pegs or any hub guards
3:52
All right so let's run through the geometry. Like I said 20.00 inch top tube, 20.5, 20.75
3:59
and 21 inch top tube. This is going to help you get the right size. So like I already ranted about
4:07
that make sure it's the right size. Please please please don't buy the wrong size because I will be
4:12
sad. You'll be sad. I'll be sad. Like everyone will be sad. It's not worth it. The chainstay
4:17
comes in a 13.2 to 13.5. So basically if you run it slammed, it's going to be 13.2. If you run it
4:25
all the way back, it's going to be 13.5. Just like the Sunday blueprint. The head tube angle is a
4:31
standard 75 degree head tube angle. It's not steep and it's not mellow. It's right there in the middle
4:36
and then the standover height is 8.75 so this is a general standover I mean I say right at about
4:42
nine inches is average so this is a little bit smaller but it's not small enough to make a
4:47
difference. All right let's run through the Dougster Bob scores this is a scoring system
4:55
that I developed to rank bikes on how good they are for street park dirt how good they are in
5:00
quality and then how good they are with like the bang for your buck the quality to price ratio
5:05
You can download this sheet that has over 80 bikes for free in the description
5:11
Click it, put in your email address, and you'll get the Dougster Bob score sheet. Anyway, let's talk about how the primer scored in this section
5:19
So first section is going to be the street section, and it scored about a 2
5:23
Is this a good score? Not really. Most beginner level bikes are right around here at this 1.75 or at the 2
5:33
because they don't have any pegs. They don't have any hub guards. They don't have any aftermarket quality
5:39
They're not going to be strong enough to withstand big drops and big gaps. Overall, it's just like the bare basic bike
5:47
So you can get it. You can ride street and you can upgrade parts. But right out of the box, it's not going to come ready for street like the Sobrosa Letum or the Kink Switch
5:58
Now, the Sunday Primer scored about a three in the park section
6:03
It's not very responsive. we like to see a really responsive geometry we like to see park specific tires and a gyro
6:09
so all of those things make a bike pretty park specific the primer does not come with any of that
6:15
however there's tabs drilled so you can put a gyro on it if you want and that's really about it now
6:22
there is a primer park option we're talking about that later in a different video but for now the
6:28
primer as it comes didn't score very high in park specificity. So in the dirt section, this bike scored close to a three
6:38
It's not very good for dirt. It's not very good for park. It not very good for dirt It a or for for street It a bare minimum bike without a lot of quality um you you don see the really big and stable geometry like you like i like to see for dirt specific bikes there
6:55
no dirt specific gearing there's no dirt specific tires so it could always improve in any of those
7:01
areas and one cool thing about the bike is that you can actually improve it yourself so let's say
7:07
you fall in love with street riding or park riding and you want to upgrade the bike you can get a
7:13
gyro you can get park specific tires you can tune the bike towards what kind of riding you enjoy
7:20
but for now as it sits it's for someone who really just wants to test out all three things
7:25
they just want to start out they want to try a little street try a little park try a little dirt
7:30
and see which one they really love now i know that we already talked about quality but again just to
7:35
recap. This bike only scored a one in the quality section. There's a lot that it could do better
7:42
For example, it could have full chromoly. I think full chromoly is the best way to go
7:47
High tensile steel is going to bend. High tensile steel is going to break. It could have double wall rims. It could have fully sealed everything. There's just
7:54
there's so much more that this bike needs to be good quality. I want to rant real quick about the
8:00
high tensile steel. So this bike comes in high tensile steel. And if you're a heavier rider
8:06
you're going to break it. We talked about this on the blueprint, but same thing. It's look
8:12
if you're anywhere from like 150 to 200 or even higher, I guess that extra weight with the
8:18
extra stress of riding and progressing and doing drops and doing gaps, it's going to thrash high
8:24
tensile steel. Now, if you're 4'10", you weigh a hundred pounds, it's not going to be bad. Like
8:28
you're not going to put a beating on the bike. But if you're a heavier guy like me, when I was
8:32
riding those bikes, I was destroying them a lot quicker than my friends because I was just so much
8:37
bigger. So take that into consideration. This low quality is, I mean, bad if you're an average
8:44
sized person and a little heavier. If you're just really light or you're shopping for your kid
8:51
the low quality score isn't really going to be that big of a deal, especially if someone's growing
8:55
because they're going to grow out of the bike and you're going to get a new one anyway. Now the Sunday Primer scored a three in the Dugster Bob score
9:03
This is basically just an accumulation of everything and with some added bonus features that bikes can score higher on or it could hurt them
9:12
It's a low score. So it's a beginner level bike. It's a low score
9:16
It's a kind of high price, honestly, but we'll talk about that later. That's how it scored on all the scores
9:22
Let's move in and talk about who this bike is for. All right, so the primer is going to be for someone who is just starting out. This would
9:34
be a really good first bike and a great alternative to like a Walmart bike, a bike from Walmart
9:40
a department store bike to something really low quality. The primer is going to be a really great
9:44
alternative. So if you're just starting out, you need something under $450. This is going to be
9:51
the bike for you. Now keep in mind like I said it's not specific for any type of riding so the
9:58
rider who gets this is going to be testing out street, testing out dirt, testing out park to see
10:03
what they really enjoy and what what type of riding is best for them The potential issues that I see with the primer are the same as the blueprint I think that this bike is low quality and if you get on it and you progress too
10:20
fast or you weigh too much you're gonna have a hard time with it. Parts are gonna
10:24
break, it's not gonna last you forever and just I just want you to be
10:29
prepared for that. Now I already mentioned you can upgrade this bike so
10:33
if you get it and things break it's not the end of the world just buy some new parts and upgrade it
10:38
you'll be fine you'll be able to progress and you're fine you know everything's good but the
10:45
parts breaking is definitely a big issue that I see now the real question would I recommend this
10:51
bike and the quick answer is going to be no I'm always straight up with you guys I think genuinely
10:59
that it's overpriced. I think that this is like a, I don't know, $400 bike. If that $390 bike
11:09
I think $430 is too much for a complete entry level bike with high tensile steel and like
11:15
just low quality. Sunday's a great brand. I love Sunday. I love their aftermarket parts
11:20
but for a beginner level bike with this amount of quality, I think this is overpriced. So I'm
11:26
going to say I don't recommend it. However, the stipulation does apply that if you are a brand new
11:32
rider, you're a lighter rider, you need a 20.00 inch top tube or a smaller bike, and you're just
11:39
starting out, you're not sure what you're going to ride, you want to dabble in everything, this is
11:44
going to be an okay choice for you. It's probably one of the only bikes in stock, which is another
11:49
pro for it. I do think it's best just to get a bike, get on it, start progressing. You can always
11:55
upgrade stuff later. So if you don't have any other options, any other good options
12:00
get this bike because things are taking long, like things are taking forever right now
12:04
So the chances of you finding a really high quality bike for a low price right now
12:09
is not very likely. But generally, I don't think that this is a good price. So I don't recommend
12:17
this bike. So I need you to do something for me real quick. Head to the comments and tell me if
12:22
you plan to buy this bike. Are you going to buy this bike or not? Yes or no, let me know. But if
12:29
you do decide to buy this bike, like I said, it's not for everybody. There's a small handful of
12:33
people who it is right for. But if you fit that description and you plan to buy this bike, I want
12:38
you to head to the link in my description and pick it up from Dan's comp. We're working together to
12:44
make sure that everyone gets the perfect bike and not just the bike that is, I don't know, that's
12:51
the cheapest or that's the most expensive like we really want you guys to get the perfect BMX bike
12:56
and if this is the perfect bike from you help me out buy it through the link and support dance comp
13:01
too they're dope and they want you to succeed at BMX anyway have a good rest of your day and don't
13:09
forget to subscribe and be a part of the community because we have amazing people who come hang out
13:14
on the lives and I answer your questions every week any question you got so anyway have a good
13:20
