Hi everybody, it's that gratitude guy with another special guest on my gratitude podcast
0:07
interview, The Pandemic, talking to different people to get perspectives on how this is
0:12
impacting our country and the world and so forth. And today I have my good friend, David Miller
0:17
David, welcome. Thank you. Thank you for having me. You bet. David is a good friend of mine, also a very good friend of my younger son, Connor
0:24
So I always appreciate his perspective. So let me start out with, I just have a couple of questions and getting the different viewpoints
0:32
is my whole goal here. So David, what is your best coping mechanism to deal with this pandemic
0:41
That's a good question. Let me start. I read an article recently from an astronaut and he talked about isolation and its effects
0:50
on the human brain. And he mentioned he was in isolation. He was up in space, I think for 300 something days
0:55
And he talked about how routine really helped him because he, it was basically planned what
1:02
his day to day was going to be. And he said that really helped him because then he woke up every day knowing what he
1:07
was doing. So there were times where he didn't have time to get depressed or sad or lonely or bored
1:14
So I think that's really important. So routine, almost like a kind of daily to-do list or checklist, that kind of thing, routine? Exactly
1:20
Something like that where it's like, I'm going to do this in the morning. I'm going to do this in the afternoon and focus on healthy priorities
1:27
Like don't watch TV for 10 hours, but find things that will help you get through the
1:32
day that are positive, that help you grow as a person. That's a great idea because as you and I were talking earlier, the days kind of run together
1:41
I mean, usually you get on Monday, feels like a Monday, Friday, hump day and that kind of
1:45
thing on Wednesday, the weekend. And they all kind of run together
1:49
So what a great tip. So almost a routine, a daily checklist, a to-do list, something like that to have the
1:55
day much more structured apparently. Exactly. Yeah. Excellent. Excellent. Okay, cool. Second question
2:03
During these uncertain times, what are you most grateful for? I think I'm lucky because I'm quarantined with my family
2:09
So I'm really grateful to be around them because we were able to keep each other company, keep
2:14
each other entertained. And I'm grateful that my friends and my family are safe that I know of
2:21
So I think having this extra time to be with them, because usually we're all at work and
2:26
stuff, but now to spend time with them, I've gotten to learn more about them and I got
2:30
to learn about their childhood because that conversation came up because we were spending
2:35
so much time together. So that's one thing that's been positive about this and something I'm grateful for
2:41
That's a great point. Something that maybe wouldn't have happened otherwise if we hadn't been for this thing, maybe a little bit of a silver lining too
2:47
Excellent. And third and last question. Do you have a quote or philosophy that kind of sustains you through a time like this? Interesting
2:59
I can't say I have one specific quote, but I just recently read a book, Attitude is Everything
3:09
In that book, there's a lot that talks about your attitude and how certain situations affect
3:17
that attitude. But the attitude you take to overcome that situation affects your mood, affects your
3:23
health and affects the outcome of that situation. So if you take the situation we're all currently in with COVID-19 and being quarantined in
3:31
our house, it's easy to feel lonely, feel sad, feel upset. And that's totally normal
3:38
And I feel like a lot of people right now are feeling that. But your attitude and the way you approach the situation, for one thing, like the checklist
3:47
we talked about in the first question, if you take a positive attitude and approach
3:51
to dealing with this and you say, for the next week or two weeks, I'm going to learn
3:56
a new hobby, learn a new skill, do something productive with this time that I'm stuck here
4:03
And I think that kind of attitude, it's not a quote, but that kind of attitude approach
4:09
will help you in the long run and come out of it, hopefully a better person. Yeah. Excellent. Excellent
4:16
Well, thank you, my friend. That was excellent advice. Stay tuned, folks
4:20
And we'll have more and more special guests on the Gratitude podcast interview, The Pandemic
4:25
So thank you, David. Thanks for having me. You bet. I'm that gratitude guy
4:30
Stay full and never quit. Thanks
