The U-1021 was a Type VIIC/41 U-boat that was sunk by a British mine on 14 March 1945 with the loss of her entire crew. She now lies on the seabed at 52 m to the North of Newquay, Cornwall. In the dying days of WW2, a type VIIC German submarine was lured into a deadly British minefield where it was destroyed and all the crew killed. The wreck of the U-1021 now lies in 52 metres (170 feet) of beautiful clear water making it an incredible, haunting dive. During the first World War, the Germans built large numbers of submarines and many have yet to be found or identified. This was the second #gasperados dive on a UC type 2 minelaying submarine lying in 85 metres (280 feet) in the English Channel. We knew that it was going to be a challenging dive and that the only way to identify the submarine was by scrubbing the props to remove concretion and find identifying serial numbers.
