Welcome to Going Long's Big Strava segment of the week, where anything over five miles
0:22
is fair game. I'm Ian Toe. And I'm Steve Shrubsell. Ian, can you tell us a little bit about today's
0:27
segment where we are etc we're in sunny chiseldon wiltshire and today we will be traveling down a
0:33
2 000 year old route traveled by the romans the route is around six miles long or just over the
0:38
elevation gain is about 300 feet current kom is 2133 while the qom is 2759 so with just 300 feet
0:51
of elevation gain. That's fairly flat, but it all comes towards the end
0:57
as one big kicker. I reckon I might be able to hold your wheel up until there
1:01
and maybe even keep on to you, keep a hold during the climb. Maybe
1:05
Try your hardest. I will be. I'll be trying my hardest to drop you. Well, let's see what
1:11
happens out on the course. Let's go. We're going to do long as you got me
1:24
And I know I got you. We a team. No in between
1:32
We can be anything that we want to be. Long as I got you
1:37
And you know you got me. We a team. Living the dream
1:45
Light that fire. There ain't no stopping. We be right back Take one and a team Come and bring it all together We like birds of a feather You know I got your back
2:07
We got it down like that. Yeah, this two is always better
2:12
Go, team, go. Go, team, go. We don't give in to the pressure
2:22
You and me, we find the treasure. You'll see us on the news
2:27
We're going to the moon Yeah, we're ready for whatever Canetio Road starts with a sense of quiet history
2:42
The name comes from Canetio, the Roman settlement buried in nearby fields
2:54
The area is layered with old routes, Roman tracks, farm roads and the long gone Malba
3:05
railway and it's along here where most of the segment plays out
3:17
In the summer it's beautiful, almost champagne gravel, but in the depths of mid winter we
3:22
we have puddles and mud aplenty to deal with. Riding amid such beauty always throws up some decent wildlife
3:37
Red Kite and Monkjack are really common around here, and at this time of the year
3:41
Field Fair and Red Wing peck away at the berries on the side of the trail
3:46
until they get disturbed. Back to the segment and for the most part it flat at least for the first four miles And just as you tapping out an easy tempo pace on the way to T and Medals a punchy climb looms into view
4:28
We'll be right back
4:58
At 0.7 miles long, with 14% ramps, it hurts. But keep the blinkers on, keep going
5:18
And keep your eyes on the prize. Nearly there now. We'll be right back
5:58
It no use living if you already dead It not worth saying if it already said Even if it all goes over your head Believe it if you want to So keep your eyes on the road and your head in the stars
6:12
Follow it down and wrap it over just a little while longer. You can change anything if you want to
6:21
Say it's not worth living if you're already dead. It's not worth saying if it's already dead
6:26
Even if it all goes straight to your head Believe it if you want to
6:32
Believe it if you want to Come on, Steve
7:04
Well, that was muddy, wasn't it? Best British gravel. How did you find it
7:09
Well, it was hard, then it was a bit harder, then there was a hill, then there was mud
7:15
What about you? Yeah, the first half was pretty slippery, then there was the hill
7:19
then it was downhill on the road, mostly. How did you get on
7:23
Well, I've got a... I got a 2044, which took about 50-odd seconds from the original KOM
7:33
So I'm really happy with that. How about yourself? Nice. I got 1901
7:40
So you're the new KOM. Nice one. Thanks. But if you're ever in the area, come and have a go at it
7:47
It's pretty beatable, I reckon. Yeah, it is totally beatable. Right. Get yourself down there, and we'll see you next week
7:55
Bye. Bye
