2:08
and we are back again I know last week if you join me if you were here on the show last week
2:16
two weeks ago actually we thought we are going to you know change the show name to build better
2:22
software but we are back again with growth mindset and one of the reason is i got several
2:29
messages i think literally i got four or five messages that they want to they like the show
2:33
they continue to be on the show uh just you know so that's why we are continuing to do this growth
2:39
mindset so hey jeetan welcome to the show you're back i see it um everybody welcome to the show as
2:47
we know you can post start posting your comments if you have any questions how you like dislike
2:54
anything you want to chime in have some feedback feel free to just post your comments md welcome
3:02
back and thank you again for welcoming me back yeah we are back to this and it's actually
3:08
friday is good for growth mindset for me because it's very casual topic we talk about certain
3:14
things and today's topic let's talk about today's topic so today's topic is taking risks and how
3:25
risk taking can be a big factor in in your success and i'm going to talk about some of the some of
3:34
the successful people how they became successful and took risk and all that so that's the topic
3:40
today. Deepak, welcome to the show. Deepak joined, it looks like. So before I talk about today's
3:49
topic about risk taking and success, how they're related, let's, I want a couple of things. I think
3:57
on C Sharp Corner, if I don't know if you guys noticed, but I tweeted out that we have a
4:03
we have launched a company profile page. This is good for people, for our members
4:09
authors who have their own companies or they're planning to have their own companies
4:16
and they want to promote themselves. So now what you can do is in your profile, you can add your company
4:22
When you add in company on your articles, blogs, or anything you do on the website
4:28
you can see that your company is there. It's about the company and then you can go to your company page
4:34
You can put more things here. So this we are going to expand this page more
4:39
So think of like, you know, if you are working for Mindcracker and in your profile, you say Mindcracker, you're also going to start seeing everybody working for that company on the platform
4:53
We are all going also going to show, let's say if you are a company in the future, you want to post a job
4:58
You can see all the jobs posted by this company. You can also see activities by this company
5:04
So imagine and you can follow this, right? so in future you can follow this company so anytime anything is posted by this company you
5:12
will see as a notification on your account so that's cool cool in the sense let's say you are
5:19
interested in you know news or joining or whatever some big company you can then go ahead and follow
5:25
here so that's one of the feature we just launched we are also working on a improvements on the
5:33
forums and there's also going to be you know a few other important things announced in coming time
5:41
so that's something to just keep you posted on things we are building on c-sharp corner
5:46
um we are also planning um an event i think simon already has a basker welcome to the show simon
5:56
already has a local event happening in in new dally area for mvps we're also trying to open
6:05
up and start these as chapters back you know chapters and events we're trying to start those
6:10
back so saman said on may 7th in noida so he's posting from nepal class saman
6:18
so if you are a local mvp in your city and you want to get involved in these chapter events
6:28
reach out to simon we are going to actually start the chapter events local chapter events
6:34
all right with that said uh let's start with the with the today's show today's topic is risk taking
6:42
and how risk-taking is one of the biggest factor when you in a success of a company or a person so
6:51
and if you want to share your any stories that how you took a risk it kind of get you to the next level or you did not take a risk or you plan to take a risk When you have any questions about that just ask your questions
7:06
We'll get those involved. So, you know, first thing is, let's, you know, I want to go back to
7:12
when I was growing up in India. And, you know, in India, when we grow up, our parents tell us to
7:19
always take the safer side safer side where you know okay you know they all this you go to you
7:27
should go to this college you should do this subject you should do these you should join a
7:31
big company because why because there is a security job security so there's less risk
7:38
so we are always taught when we're growing up that okay don't take too much risk right
7:43
um it's a good and bad and when i say risk taking this i'm not saying you just go and
7:51
you know jump from the bridge and just say okay what happens if you fly that's not the risk we're
7:56
talking about here risk we are talking about is a you know calculated limited risks which you can
8:02
afford to take and it depends on time to time too like right so if you're young you're single
8:08
you are in college or you're just starting a job, you have more time
8:13
You can take risk, right? But if you're older, you have responsibilities, families
8:18
chances are you'll probably take less risk. But the reward of taking risk is much higher, you know
8:26
compared to not taking risk. And I was just reading that this is a quote from Mark Zuckerberg
8:34
And it's a big quote. You know, big quote. you can read it anywhere but basically he said that it's in today's world um it's risky not to
8:45
take risk he said it's risky not to take risk why because and he also explained more and i'm just
8:53
paraphrasing you know i mean i'm just kind of i don't know exact words but point he was making is
8:59
that in today's world the way things are rapidly changing you got to take risks if you don't take
9:04
risks that's even worse than not taking risks right um let's talk about a few other people
9:11
let's talk about elon musk right so i don't know if you know the story of elon musk he's one of the
9:18
co-founders of paypal when paypal was sold he took you know he got millions of dollars he
9:25
actually took that money and reinvested in tesla and spacex and both were actually
9:33
brand new ideas and different technologies, right? One is in space, one is in electric cars
9:41
electric vehicles. And both are very risky fields when he started those
9:45
And they were very kind of, nobody, they were very unknowns, right
9:50
They were known, there was not, it wasn't even sure that it will become successful
9:57
And fast forward several years, Tesla was also bankrupt a few years back
10:03
um and elon talks about that they were almost bankrupt they were taking a lot of loans
10:08
and uh look at them today look at tesla and spacex both are doing well both are actually thriving
10:14
uh pretty good um and you know you can see even the tesla is growing look at the you know compare
10:21
with other companies its growth is very you know exponential so that's what risk brings right this
10:27
Bigger risk brings also bigger rewards, and you have to look at what you can afford to take the risk on
10:35
So that's the important part on risk-taking. Do you guys agree, disagree with something I'm talking about
10:42
Feel free to share your stories here, and I will highlight them, post as your comments
10:49
If you want to come behind the scenes just to share your story
10:52
let me know. We will share it here. so we just talked about mark juckerberg you know obviously one of the most successful and
11:01
billionaires and elon musk we talked about elon musk let's talk to more people if you think of
11:06
richest people you always think of bill gates and if you look also you think of in the more
11:12
biggest innovators in the world you always think of steve jobs you know these are some of the names
11:18
But look at Bill Gates, right? He dropped out from Harvard. Harvard is one of the most reputed college in the world, right
11:26
If it's not number one, it's definitely in top five, always been. He dropped out after two years of degree to start Microsoft
11:34
So if you ask me, it's a big risk. You are leaving this reputed college where there's a big success
11:42
You know, success is already guaranteed. now drop out to start a new company where success is not guaranteed
11:50
Every time you start a new company, chances of success are very, very low
11:56
So maybe 3% or less. So that's kind of risk Bill Gates took when he started Microsoft
12:05
And, you know, over the time, there were a lot of challenges. If you look at, if you look at, if you read bio or history of any of these companies
12:13
or look at the life of any of these success people, you will see that they were some of the biggest risk takers
12:26
And then let's talk about Steve Jobs, right? Steve Jobs, you know, more you read
12:31
I'm sure you heard of that already that, you know, many times he failed, several times he failed
12:39
But what he said is that when you fail, you got to quickly admit it
12:43
and learn from it and move on. So if you do make a mistake, you do take a risk
12:52
You just got to learn from it and move on and try not to repeat that again
12:56
That's kind of what his message was. But look at Apple now
13:02
You know, it became one of the first companies who reached a trillion dollar mark valuation, trillion dollar valuation
13:09
You know, even Apple was one of the first companies and now there's Tesla is obviously, Microsoft is obviously, Facebook is
13:17
Look at all these companies. If you see all the successful companies, you will find that at some way or somehow
13:26
there was a big risk taking involved there. So that's kind of point I'm making here is if you want to grow
13:37
become really successful in life, the risk has to be part of that
13:41
not always but most of the cases you should not be afraid of risk taking and now risk can be
13:50
calculated as i said it doesn have to be you know one yes or no it can be something you can take some risks and you can you know it doesn have to be all the way So now why would you want to take a risk That number one Let ask this question
14:06
Like, you know, you can go join a company. You can work for a company
14:10
You can go to growth. You know, you can grow in a company and move on
14:14
That's one way to do it. the reason you want to take risk is if you want to do something in life that's not being
14:24
available to you right now that's when you want to take a risk right say for example you say you
14:30
know what i don't want to work for anybody i really want to start my own company or you say
14:36
you know what i am more my passion is this not what i'm doing now that's really where you want
14:42
to take the risk is the passion, the things you're passionate about. Because chances are
14:48
if you do things which you like and love and passionate about it, that's where you're going
14:53
to put a lot more energy. So that's really what I'm talking about. So when Steve Jobs took a risk
14:59
or Elon Musk took this risk, it's not that he cared about how successful he will be
15:07
it's more about what he really wants to do he really wanted to build the change the world by
15:13
building these electric cars he really want to explore the the the space he really want to figure
15:21
out how to go beyond this planet so sure there are companies sure they are you know trillions of
15:31
dollars you know tesla is what more than one trillion dollar um even spacex is billions of
15:37
of worth these companies. But behind these companies was the passion. It was the passion of Elon Musk to do these things
15:48
to achieve these things. So that's really what I mean when you want to take this risk
15:53
There has to be passion behind it. You cannot just take a risk. You know what I'm going to do because everybody's doing that
15:59
That's not really risk taking. That's more like a decision making, right
16:04
So that's what I'm talking about. Are you guys agree so far
16:10
What do you think? Just chime in, post your comments. So I know actually if you, you know
16:14
if we are getting anything out of this, feel free to just chime in
16:18
definitely post your questions. I think we should do the, what do you guys think next week
16:25
We should also start doing the Twitter spaces because it seems like it's easy
16:30
for people to chime in via Twitter spaces. um danush welcome to the show good evening uh i'm sure you're probably joining from india welcome
16:42
to the show um if you're joining us from other places if you are in the u.s this is 12 o'clock
16:49
good you know early afternoon 12 16 p.m uh if you are in europe it's evening there india it's night
16:56
so all right so the reason why why we don't take risk is because of failure we
17:06
we have this fear of failure okay and as long as you have this fear of failure
17:14
you will never achieve your full potential that's a fact we never
17:23
achieve full potential we have fear of failure because we are going to fail and that's one thing
17:31
I was never afraid of taking risks I do not mind getting failure but what I do mind is
17:39
not try something which I don't want to do I have tried so many things if you
17:44
you know a lot of people don't know that but i probably was involved or started or partner or
17:53
co-founder of probably i don't know 15 companies in last 25 years or even more if you ask if you
18:01
ask all of them and probably three of them are really you can call them doing okay i'm not talking
18:08
about the successful like a billions of dollars company but they are doing okay none of them is
18:13
really successful as you know Tesla or anything but point I'm making is that
18:20
it's okay to take risks and it's okay to try but guess what now I will never
18:25
have a regret that I didn't try that you know because you can put that to bed
18:31
you can always go back to your regular work where I know you know you will get
18:35
you will get salary every month regardless of what so that's that's the
18:39
point i'm making about this and then and then if you go back to this whole growth mindset show
18:46
when i started this growth mindset show the first show it was always talking about
18:51
the the risk taking the fear of failure that's how it goes really so if you even want to reach
19:01
your full potential and you know you have to unlock the you have to unlock this this
19:08
kind of whatever the area in your mind is that that you can you're not afraid of failure
19:15
if you do that you are going to explore the areas that are outside of your current comfort zone or
19:23
your your present comfort zone right comfort zone what is comfort zone let's talk about that
19:28
what is comfort zone you're comfort you're living a comfortable life either it's work personal life doesn't matter
19:37
you have a job you go there you have certain amount of work
19:41
and then you get salaries you know but what happens in comfort zone is that
19:50
once you start becoming a comfortable in life you start working hard and i'm just talking about in general not i'm saying specific to you i'm
20:00
just saying in general uh when you start working hard that's when growth stops and i'll take an
20:08
example anoop welcome to the show good to see you back uh take the risk or lose the chance
20:15
yeah yeah yeah great agree so let's think about let's let's take a perspective let's take exact
20:22
some calculated example. Let's say you go to gym, right? You start going to gym and you're like
20:30
you know what? I'm in comfort zone. I'm just going to do exercise only as I can be, you know
20:35
easily I can do it. I don't want to hurt myself. I don't want to push myself harder
20:40
I don't want to sweat a lot. What will happen? Anybody? What will happen? If you do that
20:47
your body is still going to be sane. You may be in a good shape
20:52
but you're not going to see big growth. You agree? Imagine let say you go to gym and you start 25 pounds every day and you just do 25 pounds because it easy You know it easy to it no you know I not working hard
21:08
I'm not pushing hard. I go every day, do the 25 pound comeback. Chances are your body will get used to that weight and you're not going to grow
21:17
You're not going to have big muscle. Whatever you are, that's what you will be
21:20
Why? Because you are in a comfort zone. that's where your comfort is welcome welcome to the show baseball fan uh where you joining us from
21:32
let us know since uh i can't really know welcome to the show today we are talking about growth
21:39
mindset and and fear you know risk taking and what's the you know how risk taking can affect
21:47
or impact the success your success in life and also profile both professional life as well as
21:53
as your personal life. So, sorry, I got a call. Sorry about that
22:00
So, you know, we were talking about, let's say you go to gym and you are doing same weight every day
22:06
You're not going to see a growth. Same applies to the mind, okay
22:11
When we live in our comfort zone, we do same thing again and again
22:15
because we are not working hard. We don't have to think hard, all those things
22:20
Same thing with the growth mindset. our mind our brain or let's call cells in the brain they grow you generate new cells neurons
22:29
in our brain when you work harder when you think harder when you do things which you are
22:34
not used to so for example if you start solving problems that's our heart not just you know
22:43
what happens your brain has to think mean they have to work harder so same similar to our body
22:50
think of that our brain is also a works in the same way harder it has to work harder it has to
22:56
think more neurons grow in the in your brain and stronger it gets better it gets bigger it gets
23:02
so same concept applies everywhere if you want to get most out of your brain you got to start
23:08
working hard you got to make it work you got to make it think you got to solve problems
23:13
scientists say the only way to grow there's two fastest there's two common ways to grow your brain
23:19
is it's running running you know speed running not walking and also all thinking and solving
23:27
problems and giving you know so that's the same concept applies everywhere hopefully i'm making
23:34
sense guys um so that's really when you go back and think about some things you know you want to
23:42
think even at work if you join a company and if that company is not making you work hard and i'm
23:49
not taking harder doesn't mean really you know labor hard harder means you're getting new problems
23:55
you're involved in new projects you're solving new problems in learning new things all those means
24:01
your brain is working harder brain hard you know when brain working harder doesn't mean that you
24:07
know you really have to stress out right it means really you are not in same comfort zone you are
24:13
not doing same thing again and again you're learning something new all the time so every
24:18
time you learn something new your brain has to adapt and learn and have more information and
24:23
that's how it grows right it's the same idea here so you know if you are working in a company and
24:32
you're not being challenged you may feel that it's a great company because I'm okay I'm a comfort zone
24:39
but that may actually be bad for you as a person that's my theory like my theory is
24:44
if I'm not being pushed and I'm not being asked or I'm not doing myself I think that's bad
24:50
so that's that's kind of my theory with that and I think Bhaskar agrees with me
24:56
and same thing applies everywhere in general so when you think go home and say you know what
25:05
um am I growing in anything it can be your physical body it can be your brain it can be
25:10
your professional life it can be your personal life so that's you always want to see that
25:15
are you living in a comfort zone but if you want to grow do you need to go outside of comfort if
25:22
you do need to go outside of comfort zone there's a risk out there and how big is the risk you don't
25:27
have to take a big risk it can be a calculated risk but it's okay to take some risks right so
25:33
that's kind of i'm thinking about that so that was the only topic today i know it's a short i you
25:40
know we came back again but if you want to motivate yourself and think about success and
25:48
risk taking read some of the biographies and if you search google that you know how most successful
25:55
people in the world what kind of risk they took and how that risk taking actually changed their
26:03
whole life. I'm not talking about the just change. Like if you look at, go back to
26:09
Steve Jobs, right? Steve Jobs, he was failed. He was kicked out
26:15
from the company. The company he founded, he did some soul searching. He went to India
26:21
He went to, did some yoga and all those things. When he came back
26:25
he did same thing again. He just took some other risks and challenges
26:29
So that will give you some motivation even to you know if anything you want to do in life you can at least try you can achieve I'm not sure it's
26:38
going to be successful but at least you got to give it a try so you will say you know what at
26:42
least I try that so with that said that that ends up today's show if anybody has any questions
26:50
feel free to put your question we are going to be back again next Friday and Simon anything else
26:59
you want to plug in about upcoming conferences or anything. With that said, everybody, good to see everybody
27:07
I see M. Thank you, MD, Danos, Bhaskar, Anoop, and obviously Deepak
27:13
A few other people joined us today. Welcome back to the show, and I'm excited to be here
27:20
and we're going to be back next week with a different topic. Thank you. Thank you
