Happy Thompson here from Crochet Guru and welcome back to my lesson number four on my basic learn how to crochet series
0:06
In this lesson I'm going to show you how to tie a slip knot. Now it's important to know how to tie a slip knot because it's the first step or skill you need to have when beginning any crocheted piece
0:17
Now there are several methods to tying a slip knot so I'm going to show you three methods because everyone's learning style is different and I like to give options when I can
0:25
So let's go ahead and get started. So the first method I'm going to show you I call the pretzel method
0:31
So before we get started just make sure you have about 6 to 7 inches of yarn
0:35
So first take the tail end of the yarn and make a loop by draping it over the working end of the yarn
0:42
Go ahead and take the tail end and pull and fold it toward the back of the loop forming a pretzel
0:50
Now when you're ready, go ahead and take your hook and insert it through the first loop of the pretzel
0:58
and pull it through, making your slip knot. Now if you pull on the tail end of the yarn, it will tighten your slip knot around the hook and make it more secure
1:09
But if you pull on the working end, it will loosen the slip knot. Now you don want to make this too loose or too tight so just make sure that it a snug and comfortable tension So in this next method I going to use my fingers rather than my hook to form my slip knot So go ahead and take the end of your yarn and wrap it around your index and middle fingers
1:28
Now cross the tail end of the yarn over your fingers again by making the letter X over the
1:32
top of your fingers. And then push the yarn through the first loop and pull through
1:37
making sure to grab the tail end and working end of your yarn so that you don't lose your slip knot
1:42
And then go ahead and tighten it for the correct tension after you're through
1:49
Ok, so I'm going to call this the flip method. So go ahead and take the tail end of your yarn and make a loop by draping it over the working end or the attached strand of yarn
2:02
Now go ahead and take your loop and flip it over the attached strand of yarn
2:08
yarn. And then take your hook, pull that attached round of yarn through the loop, making your
2:15
slipknot. Here are a few tips before I go. If your slipknot is too tight, the following
2:22
steps will be too difficult to accomplish. So make sure your slipknot glides easily on
2:27
your hook. And then go ahead and choose a style that works best for you, and then stick
2:32
with it. Thank you so much for watching and have a great day
