Hi, Bobbi Thompson here with Crochet Guru and today I'm going to show you how to crochet a V-stitch
0:07
The V-stitch is abbreviated V-ST. Now to create the V-stitch we're going to work one double crochet, we're going to chain one, and then we're going to work another double crochet
0:17
We're going to do all of this in the exact same stitch
0:21
When crocheting a V-stitch, it is common to skip every other chain or stitch
0:25
Now, of course, it depends on the pattern that you are using, but in this tutorial, I'm going to show you the most common way of using the V-stitch
0:31
And basically what that means is we're just going to be skipping the first stitch
0:36
So this stitch right here we're going to be skipping, and we're going to place our first V-stitch into the next stitch over
0:43
And I'll explain why we do this after we make the stitch, and it will become more clear to you as well
0:49
Okay, so on getting started, the first thing we're going to do is yarn over the hook. We're going to skip that first stitch, we're going to place it into the second stitch
0:58
We're going to yarn over, pull the yarn through the stitch, there's three loops on your hook
1:03
We're going to yarn over again, pull through the first two loops on your hook
1:08
Yarn over again and pull through the second two loops on your hook
1:12
And now we're going to chain one. After you chain one, yarn over the hook again
1:20
working into the same stitch, go ahead and push the hook through that same stitch, yarn
1:26
over pull it through the stitch there should be 3 loops on your hook yarn over again pull through only the first two loops on your hook Yarn over again and pull through the last
1:38
two loops on your hook and that's how you complete a V stitch. So basically all
1:43
we did was one double crochet, chain one and then another double crochet all into
1:48
the same stitch. Okay so I'm going to demonstrate this stitch one more time
1:51
but first remember to skip the next stitch. Okay so go ahead and yarn over
1:57
your hook again, skip the next stitch, enter your hook into the next stitch over, yarn over your hook
2:03
pull through the stitch, there should be three loops on your hook, yarn over, pull through the
2:08
first two loops, yarn over again, and pull through the last two loops. There's your first double
2:13
crochet. Now go ahead and chain one, and then do one more double crochet into the same stitch
2:18
So yarn over, insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch
2:24
3 loops on your hook, yarn over, pull through the first 2 loops, and then yarn over, pull
2:29
through the last 2 loops. And there's your second V-stitch. Now as you can see we are skipping stitches because the V-stitch needs enough space to
2:38
spread out. If we place this stitch in every chain or in every stitch, then it wouldn't have the
2:43
space to spread out or V-out. Now I'm not saying that you can't place the V-stitch in every stitch because again, every
2:50
pattern is different and every crochet artist is different. However, it would just take on a different look
2:57
