so the materials that we're going to be needing today to complete our ribbed beanie

is a ball of simply chunky yarn i'm using paint box yarns and this is the shade pistachio my

absolute favorite so in america it will be a bulky yarn size five and this kind of gives you

a warm hat but we're going to be using an eight millimeter crochet hook. I'm going to link

everything below for you so that you can find these products for you and where to get your

paint box yarns as well. If you're new to the ribbing technique I'd recommend using some stitch

markers. I'll show you where to place them so that you can find the ends or where you need to place

your last stitch. You are going to need a darning needle towards the end as well as well as a pair

of scissors of which I can't find right now but I'll get them ready for the end. So let's get

started. We're going to be making an adult ribbed crochet beanie so that's going to have a head

circumference of 22 inches. If you're looking to make a different age or a different size

as well. So that's from newborn all the way up to what I consider a large adult, someone that's

blessed with a lot more hair than me. So we're going to start by creating our slipknot. I'll pop

a link below on a simple way on how to create a slipknot if you're not sure of that already

Just attach that to your hook and tighten pulling the working yarn. So our starting chain for an

adult ribbed hat is going to be 37. So that's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

So this is quite a long chain considering, but this is going to be the length of your hat

So from the crown plus a brim if someone wants to wear it with a brim

So we're going to work into the second chain from the hook. So this loop on our hook doesn't count as anything

This is the first chain that would come undone if we worked into it. So we're going to work into this chain and we're only going to go through the top loop of our chain

Because we're going to work onto the other side when we sew it up at the end. So we're going to start by yarning over because we're doing a half treble crochet in the UK terms

a half double crochet in the US terms. So we simply yarn over the hook, insert our hook

and yarn over and pull through all three loops on our hook. It does create a nice large space

so just being aware that you don't want to work into that one again, we're going to move down and

our chain, ignoring that big hole. We're going into that next stitch and just placing a half

As you can see, it's kind of creating quite a nice loose fabric, which is exactly what we want

doubles into each of these chains along. so I'm approaching one of my my last stitch is now so I'm just going to place that last

a look to see where we are. So we have the yarn on our hook which does not count as anything

if you want to, well I'd recommend actually giving a quick count to make sure you have got a total of

Okay so I have completed all 30 rows and I can tell that I'm on an even number of a row because

Okay, so we are reaching our final stitch. It might look like there isn't another one

but it is just there. I'm going to pop my hook through there and through that last one there

working yarn just go through go through do a chain one just to secure it and this is when I

should have grabbed some scissors so what we're going to do is we are going to need a little bit

of a length left because we're going to use this tail to secure the actual hat that's how dead

those scissors are so just probably need what's that about 12 13 inches and literally once you've

done your chain one just use your hook to pull that through and pull on there to tighten and there

is your tube so you've got a big tube at the moment this is the bottom of your hat here and we have

two ends here so with the longer tail turn it that way you're going to grab your darning needle

just not the camera sorry grab your darling needle and pop your longer tail onto your needle okay

because what we're going to do is we're going to weave in and out of these rows to cinch the hat

together so simply that's where we started so we're going to go into that stitch and then in

there and you're aiming to go quite close to the top of your um top of your rows as close as high

as you can because we want to create as minimal bunching as possible but you're simply just weaving

in and out of these and then just pulling through So just weave in and out, in and out

original um tail yarn so when we're back to where the tail is i'm going to pull that all the way

through, just flop this upside down so you can see and with your long tail you just pull. Now I'm

going to make sure that everything's kind of towards the top of the hat so it doesn't get lost

and you just keep pulling and pulling and pulling till it's nice and tight. Now we're going to make

use of this, I don't agree with knots in crochet but there are times when we need things to be

really secure and this most definitely is one of them. So what we're going to do is simply tie

a knot to help close this hole. So we don't pull too tightly because your wall may snap

So just gently do a knot. I'm going to do another knot here going the other way

and you'll find that there may still be a little hole there. That's fine

Kind of angling so that all your stitches are up towards the top, we're just going to weave through the top of these stitches here

Just through all of these, back to that original starting point. And back where this yarn is here again

So once again just going to tie a knot quite firmly without stretching the yarn too much
