Welcome back to the second part of the Rose Cardigan sleeve section
0:05
Now today we are going to be continuing to work on our sleeves and this is for the round
0:10
version of the sleeves. Both the long and the short versions are started in the same way
0:15
You should have already worked your first round and we're going to be going on to continue to work
0:20
the length of our sleeves today. If you are waiting for the tapered version that will be
0:25
available after this video has gone live. It's a little bit more advanced but it's entirely up to
0:31
you which version you choose. Here you can see the difference with the weight of the sleeves around
0:37
the cuff and it's entirely up to you which look you go for. So I have 76 single crochets around
0:45
my armhole because I am making a large, sorry an extra large and actually I'm pretty pleased
0:53
So as you can see, this is what we're aiming for. Something that's not puckering
0:58
It's nice and flat and even. You haven't quite achieved the total number
1:04
and your crochet is looking nice and smooth like this. And you're only making the round sleeve
1:10
Don't worry, it's good enough. Just make a note of the number of stitches that you have
1:14
because that's going to be your stitch count. So do keep a note of that. So I haven't joined yet
1:20
at the end of round one and once we have our stitch count noted we're going to
1:25
slip stitch into that first single crochet that we made so we just insert our hook through that
1:31
first single crochet pull through and straight through the loop on your hook we're not turning
1:37
for round one if you're making the tapered version just wait here you can attach a different ball if
1:44
you want to over to the other sleeve i won't personally because i'd rather work on one sleeve
1:48
at a time but you're ready to work your tapered sleeve onto your cardigan if you want to
1:54
If you are like me continuing on to make the round sleeve long or short we're going to start that one
2:00
together now. So for our standard round sleeve we're going to be starting round two together
2:08
and this is the same for all sizes. We're going to start by making a chain of one and into each
2:16
stitch around we're going to be working one extended half double crochet. So we start by
2:22
yarning over, insert your hook back into that same stitch that you worked your first stitch into
2:28
yarn over, bring a loop up, yarn over, just pull through that first loop
2:34
yarn over and pull through all three loops. We're going to continue to work one extended half double
2:40
crochet into each stitch around, all the way back around to the start of our round
2:49
So continue to work one extended half double crochet into each stitch around
2:54
and I'll meet you when you've come all the way back, ready to join and turn
3:01
So at the end of round two you should have the starts of your sleeve Now just like we did before we going to be slip stitching into the top of the first stitch that we made
3:12
We're going to ignore our slip stitch and our chain one and go into the top of our first stitch
3:19
So there's our slip stitch, there's our chain one, and we're inserting our hook
3:25
ignore under the top of that first stitch that we made to slip stitch to join. Just pull through
3:34
and pull through the loop on your hook. I'm going to make my chain of one and I'm turning my work
3:43
Bear with. So now I'm going to be working back around in the opposite direction and that's going to give us
3:54
the same look as the rest of our cardigan. We don't want to do a flat sleeve when we've got
4:00
these beautiful ribs throughout our cardigan. Your stitch count should be the same as it was for round
4:06
one which is why I was advised to make a note of it. So I still have my stitch count of 76
4:11
this time they're extended half double crochets. So for rounds three to six we're going to be
4:17
repeating round two that we've just done. We're going to chain one, work one extended half double
4:23
crochet into the same and each stitch around join and turn ready to start again with our churning
4:29
chain of one so we do need to make sure that we're working back into that stitch where we've
4:34
just done our chain one so we're yarning over and inserting our hook into that same stitch
4:39
a little bit tight for me there we go and work our first extended half double crochet
4:46
and then we just repeat that all the way around. When we get back we have to remember it's going
4:54
to look like this. We need to make sure we skip that slip stitch and our chain one and join in
5:01
the top of our first stitch around. Turn again and work another round. Continue to work one
5:06
extended half double crochet into each stitch around for rounds three, four, five and six and
5:15
I will meet you at the end of round six, ready to work the next part of our pattern
5:22
So at the end of round six, you should have the very much the beginnings of a sleeve
5:28
And I'm just going to join my last round. So we can go on to round seven
5:37
Remember to turn at the end of row six. Do my chain one to turn
5:45
And with round seven we are going into our half double rows with that half double crochet v stitch as well
5:53
Once we've chained one we're going to yarn over and insert our hook into our stitch
5:58
Ready to work our first US half double crochet We then going to skip the next stitch and into our next stitch across we going to work one half double crochet a chain one and a second half double crochet into the same stitch I going to repeat
6:21
this all the way around to our last stitch where we're going to work our final half double crochet
6:27
So we skip the next insert, work one half double crochet, a chain one and a further half double
6:35
crochet all the way around. So continue to repeat that and I'll meet you for our final stitch
6:47
So I have three stitches remaining, I'm just working my final half double crochet
6:52
chain one, half double crochet before I work my final half double crochet into that last
6:59
stitch and then I'm going to slip stitch to the first half double crochet that I made
7:05
There's my slip stitch, my chain one, and this is where I'm going to insert my hook
7:09
under that first half double crochet that I made. Oh, it's elusive! There we go
7:16
And we can slip stitch to join, make our chain one, and we are ready to turn to work our second
7:23
row of half double crochet into those chain one spaces. So we start by working our first
7:31
half double crochet into the top of the last one that we worked. We're going to skip the next stitch
7:38
just like before and work into our chain one spaces to work our half double crochets
7:45
Work a half double crochet, a chain one and a second half double crochet. We skip the next two
7:53
stitches to work into that next chain one space, once again placing a half double crochet, chain one
8:00
and a half double crochet so continue to repeat that around and i will meet you back for the end of this round
8:10
so i've worked into my final chain one space and i'm just going to work my final half double crochet
8:16
into that last stitch ready to skip the slip stitch chain one
8:22
and join into that first half double crochet that we made I'm going to chain one and ready to turn. So for round nine we're going back into our extended half double crochets. As always we're going to yarn over and work into that first stitch
8:41
Working our first extended half double crochet. We then skip the next stitch and work into our chain one space to work our next extended half double crochet
8:54
We're going to then work into that next stitch across, working another extended half double
9:01
crochet and skipping the next, ready to work into our chain one space. It's exactly the
9:06
same as we did for our cardigan, it's just this time we're working in turned rounds
9:11
So continue to repeat around working into each chain one space into the next stitch working another extended half double crochet and skipping the next to go back into your chain one space and I meet you
9:24
around at the last chain one space. So I've just worked into my last chain one space and there's
9:33
just two stitches remaining to work into so we're just going to work one extended half double crochet
9:38
into each of the last two stitches. Your stitch count at this point should be back to what you
9:44
started with in round one, so in my case I have 76 extended half double crochets. We slip stitch
9:53
to join to the top of that first extended half double crochet, chain one and we're ready to turn
10:00
At the end of round nine we've established the pattern to make our sleeves. It all depends on
10:05
what length sleeve you want to create. If you're making a short round sleeve for
10:10
sizes extra small through to XL for rounds 10 through to 13 you're going to
10:16
repeat round 2. That's that extended half double crochet joined and turned before
10:21
we repeat round 2 again. If you're making a short sleeve for sizes 2XL through to
10:27
5XL you're going to be repeating round 2 for one more round just for round 10
10:33
Once you think you've reached the length that you want, give your cardigan a try on and check the length of that sleeve so that you're comfortable with it
10:42
You can then go on to add some optional ribbing to the short sleeve if you want to
10:47
That video is going to be available in a couple more days. If you're making a long sleeve, for rounds 10 to 13, you're going to go ahead and repeat round 2
10:57
and then from rounds 14 to 30 you're going to be repeating round 7 through to 13 twice more to
11:05
achieve that length. Again try on your cardigan check the length of your sleeve the ribbing that
11:11
we're creating is about two and a half to three inches long for the long sleeve so you're going
11:16
to be adding on that additional round of ribbing you're going to be adding on some extra length
11:22
with the ribbing once you've completed the length of your sleeve so be aware of that when you're
11:27
trying that on. If you do need to adjust your sleeve length you can simply repeat round 7 to 13
11:33
making sure that you end on an extended half double crochet round. It's going to make your
11:39
life easier when you're working the ribbing onto your sleeve if you're working it onto one of those
11:43
rounds with the extended half double crochets. If you did want to go ahead and try the tapered
11:49
version of the sleeve to create less bulk around your wrist you can do but if you want to just
11:55
continue to create that lovely full sleeve just make a long sleeve leaving that length and the
12:01
width there. The ribbing is going to create the option to bring in that cuff so you get a tight
12:07
fit around your sleeve. I will see you in the next video once you've completed both your sleeves
12:14
Don't forget you're going to have to repeat this for the other side of your cardigan and we can add on our ribbing and finish off our cardigans. I'll see you in the next video
