0:00
Hey all, welcome back. Of course, this
0:02
is a different kind of video. I'm not in
0:03
my kitchen right now. We're actually on
0:05
the way back from a road trip from Nova
0:09
Scotia about nine or so days, including
0:12
time on the road. I saw all kinds of
0:14
things, ate all kinds of food. Had
0:17
Canada Day celebrated over there.
0:20
The US Independence Day, 4th of July, my
0:22
birthday was there. The Big 30 made some
0:25
home-cooked food. had some home-cooked
0:28
food made for me, which was awesome, and
0:31
had all sorts of American and Canadian
0:33
treats. Let's take a look right now. So,
0:36
we actually kicked off from Ottawa and
0:39
our first stop was going to be Quebec
0:41
City. Now, I've seen Quebec City, but
0:44
not my misses. So, it was a good chance
0:46
for us to have a couple of hours in
0:49
Quebec City, spend the night there, and
0:51
then have the longer stretch about 9
0:54
hours or so from Quebec City all the way
0:57
to Halifax. And if you're anything like
0:59
me, then you're going to have to clean
1:00
out your fridge before you head out on a
1:03
road trip like this. So, I had some
1:06
potatoes and zucchini that would have
1:08
definitely gone bad. So, that turned
1:10
into an amazing sandwich. I was
1:12
surprised by it. Usually, I don't like
1:15
cooked zucchini that much, so this is
1:18
going to be something I'm going to be
1:18
having way more often. And of course, I
1:21
had to smash some chicken McNuggets
1:24
to make this a road trip. And Quebec
1:26
City is beautiful. Nice European feel,
1:29
old Europe kind of feel. Lots of maple
1:32
products of course. And we were just
1:34
really craving some Lebanese meat pies.
1:37
Had some Nashville style chicken
1:39
burgers. And the popcorn was pretty
1:41
good. It was a Quebec style blend that
1:42
we got. We previously have had the
1:44
Chicago blend and overall a short but
1:47
Then from Quebec City, our next stop was
1:49
Rivier Dulu. It's pretty close from
1:52
Quebec City, about 2 to 3 hours away.
1:54
And I'm telling you, the views driving
1:56
into Rivier Dulu are some of the most
1:58
amazing views I've ever seen.
2:00
We stopped at a small cafe and had a
2:02
really nice, refreshing lunch.
2:04
Now, after that lunch at Rivier Dulu, we
2:06
actually headed off for our next stop,
2:09
which ended up being Monton. We did make
2:12
a quick pit stop at Edmonston for the
2:15
first Atlantic Canadian supertore, but
2:17
that's a different story. And during
2:19
that journey to Monton, I just kind of
2:21
went crazy on all the fluids. So, I was
2:23
kind of desperate to get to Monton, and
2:26
I was so glad I made it. But we had this
2:29
amazing cold from Tim Hortons. I had a
2:32
double double. Actually had my first
2:34
double double when I first came to
2:36
Canada for my school. And that's a super
2:38
nostalgic drink. I know it's all watery,
2:42
creamy, not real coffee anymore. I've
2:45
heard Tims used to be something much
2:47
more special than what it is right now,
2:50
but it still took me back and it always
2:53
Monton was needed for a quick refresher.
2:55
We had a quick Greekstyle platter and we
2:58
were back on the road.
2:59
At Monton, I really like the vibe of
3:01
that place. Like it was like just a
3:03
crazy party town it seemed like. And I'm
3:05
not sure if it's like that every day,
3:08
but it just looked way more lively than
3:11
where I lived. And eventually we crossed
3:14
New Brunswick where Monton was and
3:17
entered Nova Scotia. It was beautiful.
3:20
Windmills, the entrance to the
3:22
provincial border. That area was like
3:25
super well done, better than anything
3:26
I've seen in Ontario or Quebec or New
3:28
Brunswick for that matter. And right
3:30
before we got to our destination where
3:32
we're going to be staying for the next 8
3:34
or 9 days, we had to make a stop at
3:37
Truro for a quick DQ break. Now, the
3:41
first place that I went to that was
3:46
was Beefy Weiner. And that place was so
3:50
good, I fell in love with it that I went
3:51
there twice back to back the next two
3:56
days. If you ever go there, you better
3:58
check out that place. Now, day one in
4:00
Nova Scotia was for my birthday, and we
4:03
drove in to the city, and it's always
4:06
fun to explore something you never have
4:08
visited before. So, we just walked all
4:11
over, saw all kinds of things, went to
4:14
all the tourist spots. I got my favorite
4:16
cider, went to a Mexican joint, had some
4:23
Chocolate lava cake is my favorite. And
4:26
of course, there was some hot chocolate.
4:29
Awesome dessert. Awesome end to the day.
4:32
And this is a view from Citadel Hill.
4:35
The next day, we went into Peggy's Cove.
4:38
And we also saw the Swiss Air Memorial
4:41
that's right around the corner from
4:42
Peggy's Cove. But before that, I smashed
4:45
another round of beefy wiener. And we
4:48
took in the views, the water. It was a
4:52
perfect day, especially because the
4:54
previous day was super misty and foggy
4:57
and this was the perfect time to have
5:00
some lobster roll, some fresh pizza,
5:03
donire bites, and some chocolatey
5:05
espresso milkshakes to end the day. Now,
5:07
we had this trip booked to Shuganagari
5:10
River. It's a fun word to say, try to
5:13
say it. Shanagari. But before that, I
5:16
had to make a stop at a pee wiener. I
5:19
had something that was off the menu.
5:22
They didn't have a name for it yet. They
5:23
just called it the new burger. So maybe
5:26
they've put a name to that burger now,
5:28
but it was super good. The actual
5:30
rafting, the area it was in, had no
5:33
reception. And our first stop, which we
5:35
thought was the spot for our rafting,
5:38
was the wrong spot. Thankfully, the
5:40
person at the reception was able to find
5:42
out where our actual reservations were
5:45
at, which is about 20 minutes or 15
5:47
minutes drive away. And we made it just
5:50
in time. Fun fact, that's the only spot
5:53
in the world, I'm told, where you can do
5:56
river rafting up river. We were pretty
5:59
hungry after that. And then we just
6:00
ended up celebrating the rest of Canada
6:02
Day with just some donuts, some Tim
6:04
Hortons, the local donaire in the form
6:06
of pizza and a wrap and then some
6:09
coffee. But then right after had ice
6:11
cream before heading back home and
6:14
smashing some McDonald's and that pizza
6:16
bit. So, we decided to do some whale
6:18
watching. And for that, we had to cross
6:22
two islands using a ferry. Now, I've
6:25
never done that. So, it's really cool to
6:26
literally drive your car onto a boat
6:30
that then hopped from one end of the
6:32
island to the other. And by the end of
6:35
it, we were at the tip, this little part
6:39
at the edge of Nova Scotia. And that's
6:41
where we had a pretty fun time trying to
6:45
look for whales on a rather misty
6:48
and cloudy kind of day. We didn't see
6:52
My misses saw some tuna fish in the wild
6:56
and I saw people walleting.
6:57
We got some coffee before heading off to
6:59
see the whales. Stopped by at a small
7:01
restaurant on the island to get some
7:03
seafood. We thought having some seafood
7:06
before seeing the whales will give us
7:07
some luck, but clearly that didn't work
7:09
out. at home. We got there pretty late,
7:13
so it was a nice home-cooked dinner.
7:15
We also got the chance to visit a local
7:18
farm in Anaganesh where we got to try
7:22
some fresh fresh milk with some ginger
7:26
cookies. Amazing. I've never had milk
7:29
that was literally milked 10 minutes
7:33
away from the fridge. But of course,
7:35
before the visit, we had some nice
7:37
brunch at our local restaurant. The
7:40
brunch was amazing. Nice homestyle
7:42
soulful food. We also got tons of farm
7:46
fresh eggs to have when we get back
7:48
home. And dinner ended up being a
7:50
home-cooked pan pizza. And I thought it
7:54
would not make much of a difference if I
7:55
used allpurpose flour to make the dough,
7:58
but I should have used bread flour or
8:00
double o flour for a much better,
8:02
fluffier, bready crust. But dessert was
8:05
good from the local restaurant. Nice
8:07
cinnamon buns. The next morning, we
8:08
start heading back with some beautiful
8:10
home-cooked breakfast, a nice steak and
8:13
cheese waffle sandwich, and blueberry
8:15
waffles for the misses. Now, on the way
8:17
back, our overnight stop for some rest
8:20
was at Grand Falls. But at Grand Falls,
8:23
I guess we had some good American style
8:24
Italian food. I would not call it
8:27
Italian at all. It was tasty, greasy.
8:30
That's what we needed. get some good
8:31
night's rest and be ready to head back
8:34
to Ottawa the next morning. As you can
8:37
tell, the food in Canada, at least
8:39
during my entire trip, what all I kind
8:42
of gravitated towards is very similar to
8:44
what you see in America as well. Um, you
8:47
may have seen the Chicago short content
8:49
that I did on the channel some time ago.
8:51
I guess there are local highlights that
8:53
are Canadian Canadian like the donaire,
8:56
like the poutine or potent if you're
8:58
from Quebec. But of course, coming back
9:00
to Ottawa didn't mean the adventure
9:01
ended. We had some shawarma, went to a
9:04
local veg restaurant, and had a crunch
9:06
wrap. And believe it or not, this Beyond
9:09
Meat sandwich was pretty good. Ice cream
9:12
for the end. Let me know what stood out
9:14
the most to you and what you want to see
