All right, we're back with another taste
0:01
test video and this time we are going to
0:04
see how my homemade airfried chicken
0:06
nuggets are going to compare against
0:09
Popeye's, McDonald's, and Burger King.
0:13
So, first step, let's recap how to make
0:15
these nuggets at home. And while you do
0:18
that, I'll be back with the bags of fast
0:22
food.
0:24
It all starts with this simple spice
0:26
mix. It has some white pepper, smoked
0:28
paprika, garlic powder. You want to add
0:31
half of this into your ground chicken
0:33
and mix that up with some eggs and corn
0:35
starch. Make sure you mix it really well
0:38
and then just start forming the nuggets.
0:40
Some grease in your hands will go a long
0:43
way. Once the nuggets have been formed,
0:46
then just freeze this for about 20 30
0:47
minutes. This here is a breadcrumb
0:49
mixture, homemade, with some sourdough
0:51
bread. Then I have a dry mix and then a
0:54
wet mix. Dip the nuggets into the dry,
0:57
then the wet, then the breadrumbs. Pack
0:59
it tightly, and then get ready to air
1:01
fry. These will air fry for about 12 to
1:05
13 minutes on the first side with some
1:07
oil that I'm spraying on each side. Make
1:10
sure you flip it halfway and finish
1:12
cooking until they are golden brown.
1:17
Now, make sure you watch the full
1:18
recipe. is full of tips and tricks just
1:20
to make sure you get the best nuggets
1:23
which are actually lighter and healthier
1:25
and actually cheaper. I'll put the
1:27
dollar per nugget as we take a look at
1:30
all the nuggets that we are comparing
1:32
today. You'll be shocked to see what
1:35
each of them cost. Now, the rules are
1:37
the same as it has been for the blind
1:40
French fry taste test video. We did
1:42
three rounds of that and the pan pizza
1:45
taste test video. So, make sure you
1:47
check those out if you like pizzas and
1:50
fries. And I'll be grading it based on
1:53
how crispy it is, how juicy the chicken
1:56
is, and the overall flavor. Now, if
1:59
you're wondering the temperature, how
2:01
recently did I cook the homemade
2:03
nuggets? Well, for full clarity, the
2:07
fast food ones I got about 3 hours ago,
2:10
and the homemade one I cooked about an
2:12
hour ago. All of them are kind of at
2:14
room temperature. So, I'm going to pop
2:17
one from each in the air fryer. Warm it
2:20
up so the playing field is leveled. All
2:23
right, everything is hot. Let's start
2:25
shuffling.
2:26
[Music]
2:47
Okay, there's a bit of spice on the
2:50
crust.
2:51
Super juicy the chicken. I'm going to
2:54
give this I'm going give this the
2:56
crispiness a three. I'm going to give
2:58
the juiciness a four. And I think the
3:00
overall flavor a four as well. I hope
3:03
what I'm going to taste next won't
3:05
change this rating.
3:09
[Music]
3:14
That was super flaky. That had to be
3:16
Popeyes. I think this is
3:20
really really light, flaky, crisp.
3:23
That's going to be a five for
3:24
crispiness.
3:26
It was even juicier. I still have the
3:28
juiciness in my mouth. I'm going to give
3:30
that a four. And overall flavor, it was
3:34
a good nugget. A bit greasy, though.
3:37
I'm going to give that a four for now.
3:39
All right, let's try number three.
3:42
[Music]
3:51
That's some good crispiness. Crispiness.
3:53
There were like layers of it. We'll give
3:55
that a five. Quick crispiness. Different
3:57
than the Popeye's one. Popeyes was light
4:00
and flaky like almost like cornflakes,
4:02
like panco. But this one was like a
4:04
really thin, light, crisp with like the
4:08
breadcrumbs.
4:09
Definitely this was mine. And the
4:11
flavor, there was just way more flavor
4:13
in the chicken. And I tasted more
4:14
chicken. That's a good point. I tasted
4:17
more chicken. I could tell this was
4:19
homemade and there were no fillers in
4:21
here. I wonder how much chicken is in
4:24
the chicken nuggets that I'm tasting
4:26
right now. But it did not taste
4:28
processed, which is a big plus.
4:30
Juiciness. Five, I think. Yeah, I think
4:33
flavor if this was deep fried, I would
4:36
have given it a five. Deep fried really,
4:38
really changes and that's the only
4:41
disadvantage that it has to the fried
4:45
ones here. So, I'm going to give that a
4:47
thing of four because where it gets the
4:49
points is the spices
4:52
in both the breading and inside the
4:54
chicken that I've added, which which
4:56
tastes incredible.
5:00
[Music]
5:04
Yeah, that's McDonald's. Oh, I got a bad
5:08
batch. My usual McDonald's makes amazing
5:12
nuggets. These aren't amazing.
5:14
Crispiness. Yeah, crispiness is going to
5:16
be a four. Juiciness. That's where it's
5:19
weird. I wonder why it's not juicy
5:21
still. Like, it's a seal. It's a
5:24
breading
5:26
and we're just reheating it. It
5:27
shouldn't get so dry.
5:30
Maybe like we have to have it super
5:32
fresh and it just dies the moment it
5:35
even cools down a tiniest bit. Two. It
5:38
tastes like dry chicken. It there's some
5:40
juice in it. But compared to the
5:44
Burger King one, maybe two is too harsh.
5:46
I think three. Yeah, cuz Burger King was
5:49
four. And overall flavor. Oh, I'm I was
5:53
let down today in the fry video. I guess
5:57
you can guess how good the McDonald's
5:59
might have done cuz it is on my
6:01
favorites. But here, let me let me know
6:04
the two that look the most similar,
6:07
which is Burger King and McDonald's.
6:12
And there's more flavor here
6:17
in the Burger King ones,
6:19
but I don't think it beats the homemade
6:21
one.
6:26
M Popeyes
6:34
10.
6:35
Like I hope you can see the juiciness
6:36
that I'm squeezing it. And it tastes the
6:38
most like chicken. It tastes like a
6:40
chicken sausage. I was happy with how
6:42
well the Burger King Popeyes and the
6:44
homemade ones held up even though they
6:47
weren't had immediately as they were
6:50
fried or airfried. Now, no one's going
6:52
to stop getting fast food nuggets.
6:54
There's a reason why we love fast food
6:56
nuggets. It's convenient. It's a great
6:58
snack cuz like I never really make
7:00
homemade nuggets. This is the first time
7:02
that I've ever made homemade nuggets.
7:04
And they are really easy to prepare.
7:08
And if you have a few hours, maybe like
7:11
an hour or 2 hours to prep a batch of
7:15
these to have as a healthy alternative.
7:19
If you do love nuggets, you go to the
7:23
drive-thru every single day, right? You
7:27
just love nuggets, then I think you
7:30
would put the work in to make nuggets
7:33
that you can have more of and not do as
7:37
much, I guess, damage to your body. But
7:40
it's the flavor as well that really
7:41
comes out. It's always been my motive to
7:44
like have the best version of a dish.
7:48
And here you can control the type of
7:50
chicken, how uh healthy it is, how
7:53
organic it is. You can even get chicken
7:55
breast and ground that up yourself in a
7:57
food processor and use that as the mince
8:00
instead of getting ground chicken that
8:02
may also have some dark meat in it. And
8:04
it just positions the homemade nuggets
8:06
at a really competitive level to these
8:09
fast food ones because once it's prepped
8:12
and frozen, then it's just a matter of
8:14
popping it in the air fryer. And that's
8:16
going to be almost as fast as ordering
8:19
the nuggets and waiting for them to be
8:21
delivered or picking it up at the
8:23
drive-thru. Check out the other taste
8:25
test videos. Check out how to make the
8:28
homemade airfried nuggets. And if you
8:30
really want, you can always deep fry
8:32
them. You can always bake them and I'll
8:34
see you on the next one. See you.
