Hey ladies and gentlemen this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and we have
0:03
massive breaking news coming out of Washington DC that could see the end of
0:08
the tenure of one Republican lawmaker. In fact it will. Before we get started
0:14
please make sure you like, comment, share, and subscribe. Those little things really
0:17
help us out and they help our channel continue to grow. On Thursday the
0:21
long-awaited ethics report of one New York Representative George Santos, who we
0:27
know is a serial liar at this point, was released and the ethics complaint does
0:33
not necessarily recommend that they expel him from Congress, something that's only been done six times previously in the history of the United States, but it
0:41
does recommend that the Justice Department investigate him for some serious, serious crimes including using campaign funds for his own personal
0:51
benefit. Let's take a look. Happened just a bit ago we begin with breaking news
0:55
this hour. The House Ethics Committee releasing their long-awaited report on Republican Congressman George Santos. In it they say Santos quote sought to
1:04
fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal
1:10
financial profits. The committee also says they're referring quote substantial evidence that they found during their investigation to the DOJ. CNN's Manu
1:20
Raju is joining us from Capitol Hill. You're getting this hot off the presses. You're also learning that the chairman plans to move forward with expulsion
1:29
What can you tell us? Yeah that's right. In fact we just have a response from
1:35
Congressman Santos who just posted on social media quote if there was a single
1:40
ounce of ethics in the Ethics Committee they would have not released his biased
1:45
report. He says the committee went to extraordinary lengths to smear myself
1:49
and my legal team about me not being forthcoming. My legal bills suggest
1:55
otherwise and he that is part of his first response we're seeing from George
2:01
Santos in response to this report. The report also says that he did not
2:06
cooperate fully with this investigation. In fact he did not sit down for a
2:10
voluntary interview. They declined to subpoena him as well and they they made
2:16
clear that the evidence that they found goes beyond the 23 counts
2:20
indictments that he is facing in federal court over his alleged unlawful activity
2:26
that goes around campaign finance fraud for fraud dealing with jobless benefits
2:31
and the like and including making false statements with the house all of which he's pleaded not guilty to but now he is facing a real threat to his political
2:39
career. The House Ethics Committee chairman Michael Guest is moving to expel George Santos from the house. The Republican chairman Michael Guest plans
2:48
to offer a resolution as soon as tomorrow to start the process force a
2:53
vote which will require two-thirds of the house to make George Santos just the
2:58
sixth member of American in American history to be kicked out of this house
3:02
seat. We'll see if they'll get the votes to do that. Now Santos has for
3:06
some time been defiant about all the lies that have been he has admitted to
3:10
in his life as well as these charges that he has faced in federal court
3:14
denying them time and time again just recently in the last several days I had
3:18
a chance to sit down with Santos talking to him about all these issues and he
3:23
indicated that some mistakes were made even though is even as he denied all of
3:27
the charges. Now while it didn't recommend he be expelled from Congress
3:33
the head of the Ethics Committee has taken that step to start that process. In
3:38
the meantime George Santos himself has said on X formerly known as Twitter that
3:43
he will not seek reelection. The walls are falling down around him right now
3:47
it's very likely in my opinion that not only will he not be reelected not only
3:51
will he no longer be a congressman he's going to prison and as much as I want to
3:56
protect every Republican this guy's not a good look for us not a good look for
4:00
our party he's a he's a guy who has lied and possibly stolen and I say possibly
4:07
in the in the most legal sense of the word because he's not convicted yet so
4:14
possibly stolen but the evidence is overwhelming it's not somebody we want
4:19
for our party but I want to know what you guys think about this let me know in the comments also please remember to Like share and subscribe it really helps
4:26
