Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America, and former House
0:04
Speaker Kevin McCarthy has just shaken Washington, DC and the Republican Party to its core with
0:10
an announcement about his future political plans. Before we get started, please make sure you like, comment, share, and subscribe
0:18
Particularly sharing and liking really help us out. You know guys, Kevin McCarthy was ousted as Speaker about a week ago, and no matter what
0:26
you think of him as Speaker, he was the Republican Speaker of the House
0:31
And now he's just a member of the House with a very slim majority
0:36
And on Friday, rumors started going rampant, and I'm not talking about nonsense sources
0:42
I'm talking about Politico, I'm talking about CNN. Rumors were rampant that Kevin McCarthy was going to resign from office not only before
0:50
the end of his term, but possibly before the Speaker vote next week
0:54
Now this would leave the Republican majority even thinner, even smaller than it is today
1:01
And it's small as you can tell. When eight people can get together and boot a Speaker, it's a small majority
1:08
Well Kevin McCarthy was confronted by reporters, and let's take a look at what he had to say about his future
1:12
Not that I want to talk to you, but someone put something on, I'm resigning, I'm not resigning, I've got a lot more work to do
1:14
You're not resigning? No, I'm not resigning. I'm not resigning. I'm not resigning
1:18
I'm not resigning. I'm not resigning. I'm not resigning. I'm not resigning
1:22
I'm not resigning. I'm not resigning. So you'll stay the entire term? I'm staying, so don't worry
1:26
I've got a lot more work to do. You think you're going to run for re-election? Yes. Yes, you will run, or you're thinking about running
1:30
Yes, I'll run. We're going to keep the majority. I'm going to help the people I've got here, and we're going to expand it further
1:33
What do you make of the list of endorsements that's out there for would-be successors? I haven't seen the list of endorsements. Who are you supporting
1:36
I'll let them go work. Will you weigh in? I'll let them go work. What do you make of Donald Trump's involvement in this race
1:40
I'll let him go work. I'll let him go work. I'll let him go work. I'll let him go work
1:44
1:48
1:52

2:04
I'll let him go work. I'll let him go work. I've talked to both good friends. I've talked to both of them
2:08
Specifically about the job? Yeah, but I've talked to both of them already. Yeah. I've talked to a lot of them already
2:12
So to put a finer point on it, you'll serve until the end of next year? I am still here finishing my job, alright? If I make any other difference, don't read it by somebody else
2:15
I will tell you. And you will run for reelection next year as well? Yes. Yes. Yes
2:20
Did you consider retiring at any point? No. You said in your press conference that you were looking at it. Did I say I was retiring
2:24
No, no. You said you were looking at it. So what changed? I look at it every time I have to decide whether I'm going to run for re-election
2:28
Thank you all. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Unbelievable
