A surprising new announcement in the 2024 presidential race this week means that it
0:05
could tip the election towards Donald Trump in 2024. What's going on, guys? This is Rob Smith

Okay, let's get into this. Cornel West has just announced a third-party run for President of the
0:24
United States, obviously putting him into contention for the role with former President
0:30
Donald Trump who's running and also Joe Biden who's running on the Democrat side
0:35
Now, Kellyanne Conway, who is an absolutely brilliant strategist and also a strategist
0:42
and also the first woman to ever put a man in the white office, had this to say about the effect
0:50
that Cornel West's entrance into the race could have on Trump's chances
0:56
Even if you don't become president, you as a third-party candidate, spoiler
0:59
can decide who is the president. This happened in 1992 when we had Bush 41 as the incumbent
1:05
and a guy named Bill Clinton, the Arkansas governor, got elected with 43.5% of the vote
1:11
Why? Because Ross Perot got 19% of the popular vote even though he didn't rack up any electoral
1:16
votes. So I think it's important also what Amy Walter is pointing out is that if you play to win
1:22
and you're Cornel West and you are still not satisfied with the trajectory of the Democratic
1:27
Party being progressive enough for you under a Biden-Harris administration, key word there
1:32
then you're going to run to the left of them, number one. Number two, he's going to make a
1:37
play for people who feel forgotten, who feel abandoned by this Democratic Party, who feel
1:41
like nobody's listening to them and including them. It's part of how Trump won in 2016
1:45
but I think he could do it from the left. And so this is a very interesting take on this
1:49
and I think that Kellyanne Conway is absolutely right. Now, a lot of what Cornel West is going
1:57
to do is that he is going to take a lot of those Democrat voters on the far left away from somebody
2:03
like Joe Biden, or if Joe Biden ends up not running, somebody like Gavin Newsom. Those
2:09
are things that could really tip the scale in favor of Donald Trump, because Cornel West
2:17
is going to be coming at Biden and whoever else from the left, and that's going to leave the door
2:23
wide open for Trump to actually take this. I think that what a lot of people don't remember
2:29
and one thing that Kellyanne Conway was really good at pointing out here is that the presence
2:33
of a third party candidate generally takes votes away from liberals, right, from the left
2:40
and particularly with Cornel West. This is somebody that is going to take votes away from the left
2:45
and that means that Trump is going to need a smaller percentage of the vote to actually prevail
2:51
Now, if you don't know who Cornel West is, he is a very far left academic. He was known as a
2:57
progressive activist who taught public philosophy at Harvard University after teaching at Princeton
3:03
right? So this guy is literally an elite and an elitist through and through. And so you put that
3:10
guy up against Trump, and this person is literally running for president in order to stop Trump
3:15
And you put this person up against Trump, Trump is going to demolish him because Cornel West is
3:21
seen as elitist, as far left, as out of touch, as somebody that has done very little outside of the
3:28
world of academia and media for the past decades of his life. That's a very easy way for Trump to
3:34
hit him. And so this is what West said when he said that he was going to run for president. He said
3:40
I have decided to run for truth and justice, which takes the form of running for president
3:44
of the United States as a candidate for the People's Party. I enter for the quest for truth
3:48
I enter for the quest of justice, and the presidency is just one vehicle that we use to
3:54
pursue that truth and justice. So that is what Cornel West had to say. Kellyanne Conway obviously
4:01
thinks that his entrance into the race is going to bode well for Trump. I'm inclined to agree with
4:07
her. It'll be very interesting to see if Trump responds to this, if he responds at all, because
4:13
I agree with Kellyanne Conway. This will help Trump. All right, I want to hear what you guys
