Hey ladies and gentlemen this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and the Supreme Court
0:05
has stepped in on a motion to remove former President Donald Trump from certain 2024 election
0:14
ballots which would all but doom his presidential hopes and campaigns. Before we get started folks as always and ever I ask you to please like and share this
0:23
video in addition to commenting and subscribing. In particular liking and sharing helps us from suffering the same fate as CNN and we
0:32
can keep bringing these to you for free every day. So here's what's going on
0:39
Former President Donald Trump was sued by an unknown, I'm not even going to bother to mention the guy's name here, his last name is Castro, who cares, he's a nobody
0:47
he's running for the Republican nomination. But he really is a nobody in this race
0:52
He sued to keep Trump off the ballot as if that would do something for his campaign
0:56
This is a guy who's not been on a debate stage, has not even come close to qualifying
1:01
for a debate, he's ridiculous. But he can bring the case and he did
1:07
So he brings the case to court, the lower courts throw it out, but then he brings it
1:13
to the Supreme Court and he cites the 14th amendment, namely section 3 of the 14th amendment
1:18
which states that anybody who engages in an insurrection against the United States
1:23
or provides aid and comfort to those who did have an insurrection against the United States
1:29
would be disqualified from holding the presidency, the vice presidency, governor, senator, congressman
1:35
Now this was enacted after the Civil War. The reason for this was to keep Confederates out of the federal government
1:45
See the people who were writing that amendment, they were very concerned that the people who
1:49
ran the Confederacy would then try to take over the Union by getting into government
1:55
and by getting into government and changing things to the Confederacy but doing it through elections
2:00
Personally, I'm not a fan of the amendment to begin with. If the people wanted to vote them in, they should have the right to vote them in, but
2:06
we can't re-litigate this back in the 1800s. This is now being used against Donald Trump by various people
2:14
Castro is one of them. The Supreme Court delivered an epic smackdown on this
2:20
They just dismissed it out of hand. No vote, no commentary, just dismissed it
2:26
Now Castro insists that this is because they believe he didn't have standing, but because
2:31
he's now on a ballot in a state, he believes he does have standing
2:36
Okay, fine. There's two other cases that are about to come before the Supreme Court that are going
2:42
to challenge Trump's eligibility to be on the 2024 election ballot. Even CNN said these are long shots
2:50
I mean, if you guys think he's so bad for the country and you believe, as you say, that
2:54
the American people can see how bad he is for the country, why are you worried about
2:59
having them vote? Why are you worried about having the American people have their voice heard
3:04
You say you want to save democracy, but you want to save democracy by limiting choices
3:09
That's the antithesis of democracy. So to do that is absolutely ridiculous, and to say you're doing it in the name of democracy
3:17
is even more ridiculous than that. Castro had no standing. He also had no case, and I don't believe these other cases stand a chance either
3:28
I want to know what you guys think. Is this a way that the Democrats and certain Republicans are trying to get away, get around
3:34
the democratic process, or do they have a case here in your opinion
3:39
I want to know what you guys think. Also, please remember to like, share, and subscribe. It really helps us out
