Former President Trump Makes Decision In Speaker Contest - Stunning Announcement

Hey ladies and gentlemen this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and Donald Trump has just

weighed in on the House Speakers Contest and well I think it took a lot of people by surprise

continue to grow. So Byron Donalds who has announced his campaign for the Speakership, he was talking to Martha

McCallum of Fox News and she asked him you know since Trump endorsed Jordan and Jordan

didn't make it, does Trump have another plan here for this round of the Speakers Contest

Is he going to do something different? Is he going to make a different endorsement

Is Donald Trump going to endorse you? Because Donald is a huge Trump guy and Trump is a huge Donald's guy

They are two peas in a pod and having Donald as speaker in my opinion would be a lot like

having Trump as speaker. So the natural question is was Trump going to endorse you

Here was his answer. There's been 17 votes on the House floor

So one of the issues that Tom Emmer apparently has is that he's seen as not a Trump supporter

His group is pushing back on that. Will the former president endorse you for this position, Congressman Donalds

Well I talked to the president a couple of days ago and I think where the president is

he's going to be focused on getting the nomination of our party, something I believe he's well

on his way to do. As far as the Speaker of the House is concerned, the Republican members, we are going to take

care of that business internally. Look, it's been a rough couple of weeks

I think our members are ready to get this done. I'm ready to get this done

And so the former president and I, we have a very good relationship. That will continue

But the members are going to solve this process. And I think President Trump is going to be satisfied with who the next Speaker of the

House is going to be. He endorsed Jim Jordan. So is it a sort of a concerted decision not to endorse on this round, that maybe that

didn't work out so well? No, not at all. That is actually not the case

Listen, what happened up here with Jim and even with Steve Scalise was really unfortunate

There were a lot of issues between the members. My hope is those things have been worked out and flushed out

Every Republican wants to get back to work. We have to fund the government responsibly

We must secure our southern border. That is paramount to the future of our country and our security

And we have to hold the Biden administration accountable. Republican members are committed to that

I think we get it done this week. Yeah, we've heard you talk about that here on this show

You know, I think a lot of people look back, look at this and they. Now I don't blame Trump. And it's not because of the Jordan thing

I think he does need to stay out of those inner party politics. You don't see Obama getting involved in that kind of stuff

He needs to stay out of it. He's trying to help, but he's got a campaign to focus on with a lot of people against him

and a lot of people using every weapon in the government to get him. He needs to be focused

The Republicans in the House, they need to figure out this speaker's race because they're

making their party look ridiculous. They're making us as they're making us as Republican supporters look ridiculous

And it's time that they get this done. Put this thing to bed

Pick a speaker, any speaker, as long as they're not part of the unit party

I think that's where a lot of the membership is actually disagreeing. I think a lot of the older membership wants a unit party spokesperson

We don't want that anymore. We're done with that. We're done with that
