Democrats In A Panic - Supreme Court Nightmare Shakes Party

Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America, and Democrats are in panic

mode over the Supreme Court and what's developing there right now that could end them having any

chance at any kind of liberal majority for generations to come. Before we get started

and they help our channel continue to grow. Now by most reasonable standards, liberal justice

Sonia Sotomayor is a young woman. She's 69 years old. That's not incredibly aged

especially on the Supreme Court. Still a young woman, energetic, spry, but she has medical

conditions. And these medical conditions, plus her age apparently, are deeply concerning for

Democrats. And what they're asking is that some of them now are asking that Sonia Sotomayor

retire while Biden is the president so they can get another younger liberal justice in her place

I believe the real reason is Justice Sotomayor is not progressive enough for them. She's not

enough of an activist. She actually tries to follow the law, although she's activist sometimes

She tries to follow the law the best she can. She also gets along with her conservative colleagues

They want liberal flamethrowers on there like Ketanji Brown Jackson, the newest Supreme Court

justice, Justice Jackson. That's who they want on there, young, idealistic progressives. And they

want to reshape the court. So people like Justice Kagan, people like Justice Sotomayor, they don't

fit the bill. Also, you have to take into account liberals are really still shell-shocked over Ruth

Bader Ginsburg, the late Supreme Court justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, dying on the bench while

Trump was in the White House, giving him the chance to appoint another Supreme Court justice

This was a very, very tough thing for them and they haven't gotten over it yet

So they're pounding their heads against the wall right now saying, no, you got to retire

you got to retire, do what's right for the country. And they shamed Justice Stephen Breyer

into retiring. And I don't think Justice Sotomayor is going to fall for the same trick

But what they're concerned about is as you look at the polls, it's starting to look more and more

likely that Trump will become president again. And if that happens and Sotomayor has to retire

while Trump's in office, well then that presents a problem for them because he's going to pick

another young conservative and there's going to be a 7-2 advantage on the Supreme Court

Also, should Trump win, I think Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Steve Scalia

two of my favorites, they're probably going to retire in favor of younger justices. I think

that's what they're waiting for. They're advanced in years and a Trump presidency would give them

the opportunity to get out. So all of this has Democrats in a panic and I think they kind of
