Hey ladies and gentlemen this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and now that 12 jurors
0:05
are seated for the Trump trial, the alternate is likely to be picked today
0:11
It looks like Trump's case will start on Monday, maybe Tuesday, possibly Wednesday, but then
0:17
it gets real complicated. Before we get started please make sure you like, comment, share and subscribe

Those little things really help us out and they help our channel continue to grow
0:28
So the trial of former President Donald Trump is about to start. The jury selection process is just about done
0:35
But yesterday, two jurors were removed from the trial. You have another juror on the trial who is pretty much absolutely known as an anti-Trumper
0:46
Another one who's suspected of being an anti-Trumper. Doesn't look like a great jury for Trump
0:52
And I gotta say, Judge Juan Marchand is a walking appeals process
0:57
There's so many grounds for appeal already and the trial hasn't even begun
1:01
Even if they get a conviction, I don't think it stands. But that's not even the point
1:06
One legal expert said you could lose jurors during this trial and then you could lose
1:12
alternates during this trial. This trial could be such a disaster that by the end of it, for a lack of a jury, you could
1:19
have an entire mistrial. I don't know if I see that happening, but this is one really kind of interesting case
1:27
where it could. I want you to take a look at this video and let me know what you think when you like
1:32
comment, share and subscribe. I'm Carmine Sabia for Explain America. We love you guys
1:38
God bless you. Take care, everybody. ...side to kind of exhausted their challenges to strike various potential jurors
1:46
How quickly did the judge move forward and pick jurors? It's a good indicator to me if we're thinking about how is this trial going to move
1:53
And I credit that largely to the judge. He ran this process efficiently, by all indications fairly
2:00
He's kept it from becoming too much of a circus thus far. And I will say the lawyers on both sides have not been obstructionists
2:06
And the fact that we got a jury picked here, and what really amounts to about two and a
2:10
half court days, they'll finish picking the last few alternates tomorrow. I think it's a good sign for the speed with which we can get this trial in
2:18
How many alternates total do they want? So they have one so far. The law says you can have up to six
2:23
I think in this case, I would want all six because look, we lost two seated jurors today
2:27
Now, it gets harder legally. Once the jury's sworn in, it gets much harder for a judge to release a juror
2:33
But jurors get sick. Jurors get freaked out. Some of them could be, you know, spooked by a social media post
2:39
So they're going to need all six. So if the jurors who are actually seated start to freak out, as you say, and, you know, try
2:47
to get off, those alternates would fill in. And if the alternates are exhausted to an earlier point that Jennifer made, it would
2:54
be a mistrial. Yeah, then you got a problem. There actually is some law that you can finish out a trial with 11 jurors
3:00
That's happened before. The judge has a little bit of discretion here. I don't think we're going to cycle through all six alternates
3:05
I mean, that would be quite extreme. But I would bet we're going to lose one or two along the way, whether someone gets COVID
3:12
you know, someone sees something on the news that they're not supposed to see
3:16
So the jurors do drop out once in a while. All right.
