It really helps the channel out. Folks, welcome to the show. I'm your host, Carmine Sabia
0:25
And Donald Trump's hat, the former President of the United States' hat, is in the ring
0:32
to become the next Speaker of the House officially. He's officially a candidate for Speaker of the House
0:38
He was nominated by Representative Matt Gaetz, who is one of the holdouts who is not allowing
0:43
Kevin McCarthy to assume the role of Speaker. Now, Gaetz is the only vote for Trump so far
0:52
But first, let's look at can Trump become Speaker? Yes, he can, as I've explained on this channel before, but for those of you who may be catching
0:58
the first video, I'll explain. You don't need to be a member of the House of Representatives to become the Speaker of
1:05
the House, which is really a rule that should be fixed, but the way it is right now, you
1:10
don't have to be. Now, it's always been that a representative has been the Speaker of the House
1:15
There has never been an outsider as Speaker of the House. But we're getting down to the nitty gritty
1:21
There have been 11 votes for Speaker so far, and nobody has won, and the House cannot get
1:26
to its work until such time as a consensus is reached on a new Speaker
1:32
At this point, Kevin McCarthy has given away so much to try to become the Speaker that
1:39
it's becoming tougher and tougher to even do that job if he gets it
1:44
So he's set up a threshold where just one member can call for a vote to have him removed
1:50
from the Speakership. I mean, he's given into that. He's given into members of the Freedom Caucus being on the Rules Committee
1:58
He's given away everything at this point just to get the role of Speaker, and you have to
2:03
wonder how effective can he be governing that way. And it may be time for him to step aside and select somebody else
2:12
Now, Trump's name is in the ring officially, and you have to wonder, is this the guy that
2:18
can get the consensus? Is this the guy that can get everybody together to vote for him from the Republican Party
2:26
so that we can have a Speaker of the House by Monday, by Friday
2:32
Who knows? It's a long shot. It's a super long shot, but what's an even longer shot is Democrats getting on board
2:41
to back any Republican, and it seems to be just as long of a shot to get these five Republicans
2:46
to back anybody that they don't like. And they seem to be holding up the entire process to get what they want
2:54
So it's not about principle anymore. It's about they just don't like Kevin McCarthy
2:58
They don't think he's going to do a good job, and that's that. And these five people are going to decide for the other 200 and something that he's
3:08
not going to be Speaker. If that's the case, there's nothing you can do. You can't move them
3:13
There is another scenario where they can make a deal with enough people that they can
3:19
get a consensus pick, change the rules so that you don't have to get a majority
3:24
You just have to get a plurality of the votes, in which case McCarthy then could win even
3:29
without these five. But that's a whole nother topic, and it might happen, and it might be something we have
3:34
to discuss, but not right now. Right now, where we are is in the 11th hour after the 11th vote, the longest in almost
3:45
200 years. And it's about time, I think, that the Republicans get it together because right now they're
3:52
looking like they can't govern, and that's a bad look for the party
3:57
And it's certainly a bad look to the rest of the United States. So let's get it together
4:01
Let's get a Speaker. And if it's Donald Trump, boy, that would be entertaining
4:05
