Massive Mugshot Backfire - ABC News Panel Shocked By What Happened

Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and the mugshot

of former President Donald Trump keeps just backfiring spectacularly on the Democrats

The panel on the Sunday show ABC This Week hosted by George Stephanopoulos gathered around

today and they were shocked. They actually used the word shocking. Shocked that a new poll shows that President Trump is running away with the Republican

nomination for President. But what they were really shocked about was that he's either in a virtual tie or ahead

of President Joe Biden in a head-to-head matchup for the presidency, a hypothetical head-to-head

matchup for the presidency in poll after poll, this newest one done by the Wall Street Journal

Now liberal host Donna Brazile, a Democrat, she was the most shocked of them all

And she said she's never seen anything like this in her entire career

She said this is bigger than just one candidate. This is a movement. That's what we've been trying to tell you and we told you the mugshot would backfire

You didn't listen. Let's take a look at the freak out show

And then when you close the end there, it is kind of shocking in a way that despite

all of the baggage of Donald Trump carries, he's tied with Joe Biden right now. Yeah

I mean, George, when I looked at that recent poll, the Wall Street Journal, I said, oh

this could keep me up at night. Look, the problem is and the biggest challenge we face as Democrats, I say we because I'm

a Democrat, is that young voters, young black and Latino voters, they're not ready to come

back to the party. They're not even looking at the so-called messaging that's being sent to them about

the economy, about climate change, about student debt relief. They are worried about their future

And right now they're looking for a leader who represent their values and their vision

And I think the president's campaign is going to have to really, you know, go deep and go

hard to motivate those voters to come back within the Democratic Party coalition, because

without them, it is a tight race and it's going to come down to four states

And Susan Page, with every passing month, with every new indictment, Donald Trump seems

to be consolidating his control over the Republican Party. This Wall Street Journal poll after 91 criminal counts against the president, which only strengthened

his position. So I don't know why we think that a conviction on one of these counts or more would fundamentally

change the fact that Trump supporters have baked into the cake the fact that he has these

legal troubles. You know, in the Wall Street Journal poll, if you added the third party candidates, Trump

leads narrowly over Biden. That is the situation we find at this point

They should be concerned. They should be concerned for a lot of reasons. Their candidate is an octogenarian who doesn't seem to know what day of the week it is half

the time and makes ridiculous speeches where he talks about things that are nonsensical

He's presided over high inflation, a, in my opinion, what has been a terrible economy

up until recently, still high gas prices. Have you gone to the grocery store recently

You know, either I got stronger or I can suddenly carry a hundred pounds of groceries

in a hundred dollars worth of groceries in one hand. And I don't think I got any stronger, folks

So people are being hurt. People are being hurt. And they care a lot less about mean tweets now than they do about their pocketbook

And the Democrat Party in Pennsylvania, one of the most important states, is said to be

in complete disarray at this point. So there's a lot of things going against the Democrats, but that mugshot, that mugshot

solidified something with people. It united people that feel like the system is not fair, that there's a two-tier justice system

You united these people of all races, of all backgrounds, that are starting to see the

wool is coming off their eyes. The veil has been lifted. They're starting to see exactly what's happening here

And now you can't control them anymore. Folks, I want your opinions on this
