hey ladies and gentlemen this is Carmine
0:01
Sabia 4 explain America and Democrats
0:04

0:07
about their chances of keeping or
0:09
getting back to Senate in the next
0:12
election before we get started please

0:37
out Minnesota senator Tina Smith has
0:41
decided she will not run for
0:44
reelection and the News actually gets
0:46
more interesting she will not run for
0:48
reelection now you saw Minnesota come
0:51
dangerously close if you're a Democrat
0:53
to flipping red this time
0:56
out and
1:00
you look at the whole scenario here and
1:03
you look at who their governor is it's
1:05
Governor Tim Walls and you don't like
1:07
the Democrats
1:08
chances all around them states are
1:11
turning
1:12
red and and walls you know he's he's
1:16
hanging on by a threat as Governor there
1:18
in terms of popularity he's not very
1:21
popular he just lost a presidential
1:23
election and now he's considering
1:25
running for her spot that's that's the
1:28
word on the street see go being a
1:30
senator in Washington DC is a lot more
1:32
powerful than being a
1:34
governor and because you could be a
1:36
senator forever as you've seen with
1:38
Mitch McConnell and and so many others
1:41
you could be a senator
1:43
forever and so he he's looking at a
1:45
chance to maybe cement himself in that
1:49
position and I think he'll be challenged
1:51
I think he'll be challenged hard and
1:54
it's going to be a real Testament to how
1:55
exactly popular to me this is one of the
1:58
goofiest guys I've ever seen
2:00
calling other people weird he's the
2:01
weirdest dude I've seen in politics in a
2:03
long time it would be very interesting
2:05
to see the barometer here if he can
2:08
actually make it into the
2:10
Senate I want I want you guys to watch
2:12
this video and I'd like your opinion on
2:14
this who do you think could take it do
2:16
you think walls has a chance watch this
2:18
video and let me know what you think in
2:20
the
2:20
comments I wanted you to hear directly
2:23
from me that I have decided not to run
2:26
for reelection to the United States
2:27
Senate in 202 six I have loved my job as
2:32
United States Senator and also after 20
2:36
years of hard and rewarding work in the
2:38
public sector I'm ready to spend more
2:41
time with my family you know when I
2:43
first came to the Senate I didn't have
2:45
any grandchildren and now Archie and I
2:47
have four and our sons Sam and Mason and
2:51
daughters-in-law Emily and Julia are now
2:53
all living in Minneapolis so we can be
2:56
together my father is going to be
2:58
turning 95 this summer and I am blessed
3:01
to have a large extended family of
3:03
siblings and nieces and nephews and one
3:06
of my great Joys is to know that I have
3:08
time to spend more time with them doing
3:10
sleepovers and helping out from time to
3:12
time when the kids need me so this
3:14
decision is not political it is entirely
3:17
personal but it's not lost on me that
3:20
our country is in need of strong
3:23
Progressive leadership right now maybe
3:25
more than ever so there are two things
3:28
on my mind about this the first is that
3:30
I have two nearly two full years left in
3:33
my Senate term and I plan to use every
3:36
single day working as hard as I can to
3:39
represent your interests in the United
3:41
States Senate and make sure that your
3:43
voices are heard and also since I don't
3:46
have to worry about running an election
3:48
a re-election campaign I can focus
3:51
entirely on this job right now and
3:53
second we have a deep bench of political
3:56
talent in Minnesota a group of leaders
3:58
that are more than ready to pick up the
4:00
work and carry us forward and I'm
4:02
excited to make room for them to move
4:05
forward at the end of the day what I'm
4:07
going to miss most about this job is not
4:09
the perks and certainly not all of the
4:12
attention it's going to be that feeling
4:14
that I have from all of you of being
4:16
invited into your living rooms to hear
4:18
what is happening in your lives and what
4:20
that's really like for you that has been
4:22
an inspiration to me every single day
4:24
that I've served so I'm grateful for
4:26
that and I'm going to spend the next two
4:29
years figuring out how to thank you all
4:31
so thank you so much Minnesota
