0:19
out guys CNN said to me the unthinkable
0:24
the world well the liberal world in the
0:26
United States is outraged that Trump
0:29
president Donald Trump is doing exactly
0:31
what he said he was going to do during
0:33
the campaign that he has begun the
0:35
immigration raids that he has issued
0:37
executive orders to speed up the
0:39
deportation of illegal immigrants these
0:42
are the things that the president said
0:44
he was going to do on the campaign Trail
0:46
he's delivering on the promises promises
0:49
made Promises Kept the American people
0:53
knew what they were voting for and the
0:54
Liberals they're pulling their hair out
0:56
of their head about this this is
0:57
unconscionable what punishing people who
1:00
broke the laws
1:01
unconscionable in what world I thought
1:04
that's what you were supposed to do
1:05
otherwise why do you have
1:07
laws so CNN's Harry enton data analyst
1:12
very fair guy he comes out and he shows
1:15
the numbers and you see from 2016 where
1:19
not a lot of people supported these
1:21
deportations all the way up to now where
1:24
more than half the country and climbing
1:28
support these deportations it's across
1:29
Ross all parties independent Republican
1:32
Democrat of course Democrats less but
1:36
the support is there because people tend
1:39
to support common
1:41
sense but to hear CNN tap out like this
1:44
to Trump admit he's right that that
1:47
shocked me I want you guys to watch this
1:49
video and let me know what you think in
1:51
the comments aggressive Crackdown on
1:54
immigration an agenda that at least some
1:57
parts appear to be in line with
1:58
Americans shifting attit udes on the
2:01
issue CNN's Harry Anton has been looking
2:02
at that for us he's joining us now let's
2:04
start with how Americans feel um now
2:07
about people being in the country
2:09
illegally this is this might be
2:11
different from the headline we were just
2:12
talking about refugees who have applied
2:14
and gotten they gone through this long
2:16
process and gotten approved but talking
2:18
about undocumented immigrants yeah I
2:20
sometimes I like blunt questions because
2:22
they sort of get at the underlying
2:24
feelings that people have so this is
2:26
about as blunt a question as you can get
2:28
Deport all immigrants here legally I
2:30
will note the ABC News poll ask about
2:32
undocumented immigrant so we have
2:33
slightly different questions but these
2:34
were all taken within the last month and
2:36
there's real uniformity here that's what
2:39
I really think you see you see real
2:40
uniformity deported all immigrants who
2:42
are here illegally 55% of the New York
2:44
Times Marquette 64% CBS News 57% ABC
2:48
news with a slightly different question
2:49
56% so what you're seeing essentially
2:52
here is very clear indication that a
2:55
majority of Americans in fact when
2:57
they're asked this blunt question which
2:59
I believe gets at the underlying
3:00
feelings do in fact want to deport all
3:02
immigrants who are here illegally
3:04
there's no arguing with these different
3:06
numbers cuz they're all essentially the
3:07
same across four different pollsters so
3:09
if they say yes today is how has that
3:13
changed over time yeah this is where I
3:15
think you get very interesting and so
3:17
we'll take a look at that ABC News
3:19
question in particular because you can
3:21
really see that there's been a massive
3:23
shift from when Trump was first getting
3:25
into office 8 years ago right Deport all
3:27
undocumented immigrants you go back to
3:29
15 I'm going to come to your side of the
3:30
screen it was 42% hello go to 2016 it
3:33
was 36% look at where we are now this
3:36
was taken at the end of last year 56%
3:39
this is 20 points higher than it was
3:41
just before Trump got into office the
3:43
first time so feelings towards
3:45
immigration in this country feelings
3:47
towards undoc undocumented immigrants
3:49
and deporting all of them have become
3:51
considerably more hawkish and I think
3:52
that gives Donald Trump much more
3:54
leverage to go with the American people
3:56
and sort of have these hawkish some
3:58
might say harsh uh
4:00
different rhetoric and also uh issue
4:03
based sort of going after immigrants who
4:05
are here illegally and so I think the
4:07
American people are going to give Donald
4:09
Trump the benefit of the doubt to do
4:10
what he wants to do at least if you
4:11
believe these blunt questions including
4:13
this one how about immigration levels
4:16
yeah okay so this sort of Coes in line
4:18
with that right which is again trying to
4:20
get at the underlying feelings want
4:22
immigration levels decrease this
4:23
includes legal and illegal immigration
4:26
look at this last year 55% that is the
4:30
highest level since the 9/11 aftermath
4:32
you go back just to 202 and this again
4:34
legal andal they people want less people
4:38
coming into the country exactly they
4:40
want less people coming into the country
4:42
look at that that's a 14-point rise from
4:44
2023 you go back to 2016 When Donald
4:46
Trump again was running for president
4:48
the first time was 38% that's a 17-point
4:50
rise so the bottom line is more folks
4:53
want people who are here illegally
4:55
deported and their overall feelings
4:57
towards immigration had become
4:58
considerably more hawkish since Donald
5:00
Trump was first getting the office cake
5:02
thank you Harry thank you
