Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America
0:04
and Marjorie Taylor Greene has just gone rogue against one fellow Republican in particular
0:10
and I think it shocked a lot of people because they used to be pretty close

0:22
Look, as Republicans, we are all frustrated with what's happened in the past two to three weeks
0:30
With the Speaker's race, and I personally have been very frustrated with Matt Gaetz
0:34
for putting us in this position to begin with. I blamed him, absolutely
0:38
We were fine, you know, things were going along slowly. But if we get Mike Johnson, who is definitely a MAGA Republican
0:48
if he becomes our Speaker, then I take back what I said about Matt Gaetz, and it was the right move, and, you know, I should have trusted the process more
0:57
I will absolutely admit that. If that's what happened, then, okay, Matt, you were correct
1:03
We got a better Speaker out of the deal, and we're great
1:08
But I think a lot of Republicans are still concerned, and I'm still concerned
1:13
with the damage that was done by not being able to elect a Speaker this long
1:18
and how it makes the party look, especially heading into the 2024 elections
1:22
for President, for House, for Senate, it makes it look like a party that can't govern
1:25
Now, can that be forgotten over the course of the next year? Maybe, and probably, but Democrats will most likely use it in their campaign ads
1:32
and it could be very effective. Well, Marjorie Taylor Greene, she's furious about it
1:37
and I want you to take a look at what she had to say. Need to figure out appropriation bills
1:41
You and I have talked a lot about this. Handicap the race for me
1:46
Who is possible is going to pop up, or pop down, or when
1:52
When can we have a Speaker, Marjorie? Well, Larry, I totally agree with you
1:57
We have to accomplish all those things. I'd like to remind everyone with a history lesson
2:01
Back in 1855, the Congress went two months with 133 ballots, trying to elect a Speaker of the House
2:09
Maybe that's what we go through again, because I think, and I would argue, the GOP is going through a big change, and it needs to be an America first change
2:18
That's what Republican voters want, and that's what the American people want, and that's what our country needs
2:23
I think we're going to see some more names come back in. Mike Johnson was very close in this last race earlier today
2:30
We saw Byron Donalds running, but he also admitted to the conference
2:34
that he had negotiated with Kevin McCarthy for himself to have an office in the Capitol
2:39
That was something that turned off our conference big time. We saw Kevin Hearn, big conservative chairman of the Republican Study Committee
2:48
was also getting votes. So we're going to have to get back in the room and see who's willing to run
2:54
and be a candidate for Speaker. But I also hope that there are eight Republicans who joined the Democrats
2:59
and ousted Kevin McCarthy. They need to apologize, and we need to heal our conference in order to move forward
3:06
You know, Margie, I'm so old. Now that you remind me, I remember the 1855 thing
3:11
I was around. I was a bit young at the time, but I was a researcher for Abe Lincoln in those days
3:19
But, you know, in all seriousness, what you say is important. I'm not going to pick winners
3:25
Now, it's interesting because we all love Marjorie Taylor Greene. Matt Gaetz is a favorite among our people, too, right
3:31
And here they are. And they're saying, you know, and a lot of people, even on the MAGA side are saying
3:36
you know, Matt, here's the mistake. You should have had a plan. You can't just get rid of the Speaker and not have a plan
3:42
And if that's the only lesson that comes from this whole thing, then that's a good thing
3:46
So we'd never do this again. If you're going to take out the leader, you better have another leader in mind
3:52
That goes that way. Have you ever seen any mafia movie you've ever seen? If you're going to take out the leader, you got to have another leader in mind, right
3:58
It's the same in business. You remove a CEO, you got to have a new CEO in mind
4:02
Well, you remove a Speaker, you got to have a new Speaker in mind. And they didn't have one
4:08
And that's the frustrating part for a lot of Republicans. Did it frustrate you guys
4:12
It frustrated me. Did it frustrate you guys? I want to know in the comments what you think about this whole thing
4:17
Also, please remember to like, share, and subscribe because that really helps us out
