Hey, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia For Explain America with breaking news on one of the most insane stories you probably have ever heard from a United States Congress member
0:10
Before we get started, please make sure you like, comment, share, and subscribe. Those little things really help us out and they help our channel continue to grow
0:19
One Republican lawmaker has just stated, and I mean just stated, that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy hit him intentionally, hit him hard
0:29
and he said there was a lot of Ennisces who saw this
0:34
Kevin McCarthy, for his part, has denied it. I want to ask you guys, first of all, to watch this clip
0:41
and then I want you to leave your comments and let me know who you believe
0:45
and what you think about this wild and insane story. Go ahead and take a look
0:51
And remember, I'm Carmine Sabia. This is Explain America. We love you guys
0:55
God bless you. Take care, everybody. And apparently had a bit of a bit of a
0:59
a dust up in the hallways himself with Kevin McCarthy. And I have Congressman Bertrand with us here right now
1:05
So Congressman explained to us what happened with you and Kevin McCarthy. Well, I was doing an interview with Claudia from NPR, a lovely lady
1:15
and when she was asking me a question. And at that time, I got elbowed in the back, and it kind of caught me off guard
1:22
because it was a clean shot to the kidneys. And I turned back and there was Kevin And for a minute I was kind of What heck just happened And then I you know I chased after him of course He a as I stated many times he a bully with million in a security detail
1:41
You know, he's the type of guy that when you're a kid would throw a rock over the fence
1:44
and run home and hide behind his mom's skirt. And he just, you know, from behind that kind of stuff
1:52
You know, that's not the way we handle things in these Tennessee. If we have a problem with somebody, I'm going to look him in the eye and talk to him
1:57
Okay, so he walked down the hallway, hit you with his elbow
2:01
Yeah, you can go on Claudia's Twitter account. It pretty much, or X account, it's very accurate
2:08
Okay, so then just explain. So you chased him? What do you mean you chased? Well, I just ran after
2:12
He might just like, what the heck, you know, why'd you do that? You know, because it was, like I said, if you've ever been hitting the kidneys, it's a little different
2:18
You don't have to hit very hard to cause a little bit of pain, a lot of pain. and so I and he just of course um as he always did does he just uh denies it or
2:31
blame somebody else or something you know and it was just a little heated but i just backed
2:37
off because there was any i saw no reason i wasn't gaining anything from it and then everybody
2:41
saw it so it didn't really matter like you responded to you yeah yeah he just acted like you know
2:47
what are you talking about you know who are you to you know that kind of thing and it's just
2:51
you know i think that that symptomatic of the problems that he had in his short tenure as speaker and were you face when you have this interaction yeah but there security detail and I get it They were doing their job so it wasn exactly like he didn
3:07
he wouldn't turn around and face me. He kept scurry and trying to keep people between me and him
3:12
And then so, where did he? I just let it go at that point
3:16
It wasn't. Were you yelling? He was, yeah, I raised my voice to him. I thought it was appropriate
3:21
And I just don't expect a guy who was at one time three steps away
3:25
from the White House to sucker hit you with a sucker punch in the hallway
3:30
And did he raise his voice back to you? Yeah, just that high-pitched kind of thing, I believe, and that was about it
3:36
And did you walk into his office? How did this act? No, he just kept on walking down the hall. I don't know where his office is now
3:41
And, you know, he had his detail and his posse, so to speak, was with him
3:47
So did his detail try to stop you? Do what? Did his detail try to stop you
3:50
The detail kind of got, one guy got between us there towards the end
3:54
but I wasn't looking to knock him out or anything. I just wanted to let him know
4:00
I know it was him. Were you injured? I don't know injured, man
4:05
Does it hurt me do it hurt? Yeah, yeah, as a matter of fact, it still hurts because it was a shot to the kidneys
4:12
And it still hurts, oddly enough. It's not anything I'm going to, I'm not going to, probably not going to do an ethics complaint on him
4:18
He's not worth it. You know, he's going to be gone here either after Christmas or next year
4:23
And like I said, you know, he's got the 17. million dollars and he going to keep you know he be he already messing in everybody races and we all know that Are you accusing him of assault Am I accusing him Of assault I don know Ask a lawyer
4:36
It's over as far as I'm concerned. He said to our colleague Melanie and Zanona that this was a tight hallway
4:42
He denies this interaction. He says a tight hallway, and I bumped into him. He says that this is not an intentional thing
4:47
There's 435 congressman. I was one of eight that voted against him
4:52
That hallway was, there's plenty of room. you can walk for for side by side he chose to do what he did and you know it's it'll end right here
5:01
I'm sure it'll just be a little little a little asterisk on his storied career and he said he told me
5:07
last week you are only concerned about press and policy that's why you've voted him out you're just
5:11
concerned about the press yeah and that's why he held a exclusive press conference with CNN what do you
5:18
mean I mean he doesn't think that you did it for any real reason other than to bolster your own profile I've gone through
5:25
the reasons he just doesn't he doesn't keep his word and i think that's this is pretty much um
5:31
it shows what he did it just shows what he did and it just it's just the way it is with him he's not
5:36
you know he could have gone out on top and he's chosen to go this route and i and actually i feel
5:42
sorry for him i pray for him every day you might not believe that but i do i pray for him and i um
5:47
i hope he finds some some happiness in his life yeah all right i let you go i just want to talk to you
5:52
as well thanks you thanks for your time and
