Ladies and gentlemen, I'm Carmine Sabia, and this is Explain America
0:03
You know, perhaps the toughest part of the House Judiciary Committee hearings on crime in New York
0:08
came when the mother of a veteran sat before the Judiciary Committee
0:15
and explained how Alvin Bragg had reduced charges against her son's murderers
0:21
in an attack which she called savage, and frankly was savage. The man survived the war
0:30
But he came home to find a bunch of kids on the street who attacked him in a gang assault
0:37
stabbed him, murdered him, left him for dead, and then Alvin Bragg reduced to charges
0:46
Let's take a listen. Good morning. My name is Madeline Brame. I am the chairwoman of Victims' Rights Reform Council
0:54
I'm also the mother of a homicide victim. My son, Sergeant Hassan Korea, Afghanistan War, retired veteran, was killed in Harlem in 2018
1:07
Hassan was kick-punch, stopped, and stabbed nine times by four individuals he did not know, nor had he done them any harm
1:16
All four of these individuals were apprehended and all four charged with first-degree gang assault and second-degree murder
1:23
This case just resolved this year. So this case drug on through the Manhattan Criminal Court system for four and a half years
1:35
When Alvin Brad came into office he was handed a strong trial murder case and gang assault case against all four of these individuals where this brutal savage homicide was captured on video
1:54
He was handed a strong trial-ready case, ready to go to trial
1:59
As soon as he took office, the case immediately began to unravel
2:04
He dismissed, completely dismissed, gang assault and murder indictments against two of the defendants clearly on video participating in the brutal savage slaughter of my son
2:21
Mary Saunders, the sister involved in the homicide. He dismissed her indictment and recharged her with assault with a shoe and sentenced her to one year time. served
2:36
Travis Stewart dismissed his gang assault and murder indictment and sentenced him to
2:44
attempted gang assault. And he pled guilty and sentenced him to seven years
2:52
Travis will be out in the next 18 months. Mary Saunders, the
2:57
savage, is currently walking the streets of Harlem like she didn't just participate in the
3:04
slaughter of another human being, home with her family, home with her children
3:10
If that's not a threat to public safety, I don't know what is
3:16
She capable of any moment of snapping and attacking someone and holding them while someone else plunges a butcher knife into their body nine times and another person 12 times and then run away and leave their body in the street to bleed to death
3:36
This is the type of criminal element that we have walking the streets of New York City on a daily basis
3:44
All types of criminal elements. Free to do what they want, when they want, however they want, to whomever they want, with no consequences, no deterrence
3:58
We have these anti-gang violence, these credible messenger, millions and billions of our hard-earned tax dollars are going to fund these organizations that are doing absolutely nothing to deter this crime
4:17
They're doing absolutely nothing. And I propose not another dime of our federal tax dollars
4:25
be pumped into these organizations until they can produce some measurable outcomes of effectiveness
4:32
of what they're doing with our tax dollars to protect the public
4:41
Audience, there is no audience participation. Ms. Brand, you keep going. And as far as the Manhattan district
4:47
attorney's office, if he's receiving one penny of federal dollars, you need to pull that funding until he starts doing his damn job and prosecuting crime
5:01
I was totally disrespected Me my family my grandchildren we were treated like garbage
5:09
Like garbage. I've sat for four and a half years and saw mothers walk in and out
5:15
We have a mother sitting here right now whose son, two sons
5:20
One died and the other one is on a coloscopy bag. This is out of Darcyl Clark's jurisdiction
5:28
So I'm not the only one. There are hundreds and thousands of us
5:33
We don't give a damn about your politics. We don't care. It can be the man from the moon who's running for president
5:41
Okay? As long as whoever's in there, it stands for law and order
5:47
And it's going to return some civility and sanity to our city
5:52
Thank you. It's incredibly tough to listen to. A mother's pain at the loss of her son
5:58
and her pain at a justice system who let the perpetrators essentially walk with slaps on the wrist
6:06
Horrifying, horrible, this is life in Alvin Bragg's New York City. While he does gymnastics to get felonies against Donald Trump, which end their best day are misdemeanors
6:19
he bends over backwards to turn felonies into something less than that
6:24
to get murderers to walk the streets. This is what your tax dollars are being spent on
6:32
Folks again, please remember to like, comment, share, and subscribe. We love you guys
6:36
God bless you. Take care, everybody
