welcome to the Nevada State Museum my
0:14
name is Bob Milan I'm the curator of
0:16
history here at the Museum and I'm
0:18
standing in our wonderful CC coin vault
0:21
which is located in the historic portion
0:23
of the Carson City mint which used to be
0:26
the treasurer's office and this is one
0:28
of the largest vaults in the in the
0:30
buildings complex but we have this
0:31
wonderful CC collection we almost have a
0:34
complete collection we're only missing
0:36
two coins so we have a hundred and a
0:37
nine out of the hundred and eleven coins
0:39
but this is a great collection and one
0:42
of the pieces that I really want to
0:45
focus on is one that we've actually
0:47
replicated we have a replica a copy that
0:49
we are selling now at our Museum store
0:51
it's the CC half dollar from 1870 it was
0:56
one of the three coins that were minted
0:58
in the first year of operation in 1870
1:01
there was the silver dollar the Liberty
1:04
seated and then there was a Liberty
1:05
seated quarter the half-dollar was the
1:08
most produced there was some 50 - let me
1:10
check the number of fifty four thousand
1:12
six hundred and seventeen that were
1:13
minted and also the fact that this
1:16
replica is one that you can purchase and
1:18
have and it goes with our
1:20
sesquicentennial next year is the 150th
1:23
anniversary of the opening of the Carson
1:25
City mint back in first opened in
1:27
January of 1870 and then the first coin
1:30
was minted on February 4th and as you
1:33
can imagine that date is coming up in
1:35
2020 and so we have a special special
1:39
we've even invited and he's agreed to
1:41
come the Mint director from the US Mint
1:45
he'll be here that day speaking and
1:47
we're also gonna as you can imagine our
1:50
beautiful and wonderful coin press
1:52
number one the press that made these
1:54
coins the for the first five years and
1:57
the ones that are from 1870 we know it
1:59
produced the ones that are in display
2:01
here we are going to be minting a
2:03
special commemorative medallion the
2:06
cesium it was only in operation as the
2:08
coining and minting from 1878 to 1893 so
2:12
had a very limited run of
2:14
years that it operated but what a
2:15
special place and that famous CeCe met
2:18
mark that makes it so special
