Violin Solo 1 (2 Minutes Challenge Composition) - Claude Ziad El-Bayeh - Composed in 2000
The story behind this composition: One day, my cousin Jean visited us in Amchit. I was on the computer playing games when he suddenly appeared to me and asked what I was doing. I replied that I was playing, and I showed him some pieces of software on the computer, including music notation software for songwriting that I recently bought. He laughed at me and said, “Do you really know how to read music?” and “Can you write a song now?” He was mocking me. I challenged him and answered, “I will show you that I can write compositions in 2 minutes without even thinking about them!”. He accepted the challenge while he was looking at me in a sarcastic way. He started the timer, and in four minutes, I wrote two pieces of music—this composition is one of them—by placing notes randomly on lines, hoping that they would sound not so bad.
