hello walkers and welcome to livingston montana
0:07

0:13

0:32
[Music]
0:51
[Music]
1:04
[Music] hello walkers and uh somebody send me a
1:10
chat if you can hear me not sure about the audio on this
1:18
i see we have three people pretty psyched about that [Music]
1:24
we are in livingston montana is degrees fahrenheit i think
1:38
before looks like is not great here
1:48
can you hear me mike or mac
1:58
[Music] i'm going to switch directions here
2:06
having a little issue with the audio excellent welcome ordo bravos this is
2:13
one of my first uh live streams my first to be actually listening to people chat we are
2:19
walking along the yellowstone river here in early may
2:26
you can see i'll show you the color of the river the water is muddy
2:32
right now a little bit muddy hello nick uh nicolin paulson
2:37
hi there um welcome the water is a little dirty
2:43
because it's starting to run off the spring run off we actually floated yesterday and
2:50
had a great quick float it was running it you measure these things in cfs cubic
2:56
feet per second and it was at 4 000 yesterday up it's up to sorry about that working on
3:04
some technical issues here oh maybe that'll work a little better
3:10
all right [Music] um having an issue with my gimbal
3:18
um yeah it was a quick float we did about four or five miles in an hour and a half just through town
3:24
floated on that far side you can um
3:32
that's livingston peak the big cross there is a the main channel of the
3:38
river that we floated in got kind of wet in the rapid there a little exciting
3:43
hit me up with any questions you might have about livingston
3:50
trying to get my gimbal to work again here there we go um and
3:58
over here we have our lagoon which uh we'll walk down that way i've got a
4:05
somebody wondering what i'm doing here um [Music]
4:13
we've got some geese we're going to walk by i'm going to show you this uh band shell
4:18
miles park here it's where we have music and our farmers market in the summer
4:25
that will start up in june [Music]
4:30
and it's really a pretty nice deal there's arts crafts food it's not as big as
4:37
big cities would normally expect um it's you know this whole thing will be
4:44
full of some food local producers a lot of uh
4:49
food vendors a lot of arts and crafts they also have this uh
4:56
organization that runs uh um the sorry the western sustainability
5:04
exchange which runs the farmers market i think they have a cool program where they rent
5:09
space to kids and they can start a little business and
5:16
learn all about that otis yes it is a small town about seven to eight thousand people
5:23
we are known for our wind that comes through in the winter blows over semis and that sort of thing
5:32
community center here just because there's a nice mural [Music] um and again if you guys have any
5:39
questions let me know um
5:44
bordeaux nice to see you uh the covet situation is um i don't want to say anything
5:51
too controversial here or like i'm an expert because i'm not but it's actually pretty much under
5:57
control we definitely have new cases there are some hot spots but nothing like
6:02
you would see in some of the other parts of the world the governor last month i think it was
6:08
maybe the month before we have a new governor um he revoked the
6:14
uh covid requirements the any kind of like that we
6:19
however can maintain some restrictions we had here in park county some restrictions
6:25
that were just recently uh rescinded
6:33
now they're depending on people just acting responsibly i think we've had
6:38
in this county 30 new cases in the last week in a county of about 17 000
6:46
this is a general what that city is but it's a cool mural
6:54
i'm going to take you over to the lagoon real quick in this building here they'll have uh this is small town life
7:02
this is where they'll have some basketball games little league style basketball games they will have
7:09
community activities you can rent it for a birthday party uh they even have roller skating inside on
7:14
the basketball court in the winter uh
7:20
indoor places to do stuff in the winter when it's windy as i mentioned and super cold
7:29
and so finding a place for kids to burn off some steam is pretty important i'm going to come over and
7:36
show you a statue of sacagawea sacagawea who
7:42
you may or may not know of from lewis and clark fame um
7:50
yeah uh otis this is my town um where i'm based out of i was not born
7:55
here i'm gonna try not to get run over here uh but we i moved here
8:00
in 2006. so thanks for that question this is a nice uh statue here
8:08
lewis and clark came through here back in the day i'm going to take you
8:15
out here kids are fishing maybe
8:22
we're doing something we'll get too close i don't normally like to film kids without consent but i do want to show
8:30
you hello mary thanks for the shout out welcome from salem oregon
8:38
it's pretty cool i think just very scenic of course in the winter time this whole thing freezes over people
8:46
will come out here and um shovel off snow and do some ice skating play a little
8:52
bit of hockey i just noticed they're redoing that entire house
8:58
nice you can see here some of the trees
9:06
walking with thompson welcome i love scotland we've been a few times love it there the weather is fantastic
9:14
today in fact we're hoping it'll stay fantastic because next week we're gonna
9:21
go smoke uh float the smith river which is a river um
9:29
you need a lottery you need a perm back country canyon and it'll be
9:36
a four day float with some friends and if the weather holds out it'll be
9:41
wonderful but the last time we floated it it was snowing and raining and
9:48
cold and we pulled out a day early so hopefully we'll get a better more
9:54
warmer experience this time again my name is henry i guess i haven't
10:00
mentioned that i'm referring to myself as a proxy walker [Music] taking people around showing them around
10:06
different places primarily in the last year so montana which is where i live this is livingston
10:13
montana we are about 30 miles east of bozeman
10:19
which you may have heard do people around your town know you as a guy that's always walking i think they know me more
10:26
as the tall guy i'm six foot six inches tall 2 meters
10:34
and you know they actually know my dad a lot more because he's very gregarious very
10:44
um we maybe see some goslings here in a minute um
10:52
national park down there sunday and uh explore there
11:00
a little bit just in gardner which is a gateway town hello shoe walker good to see you thanks
11:06
for tuning in for those of you shoe walker is another
11:13
walking channel and tour channel so check them out they've got a good one
11:19
[Music] what is it saying oh yeah yellowstone yellowstone is
11:25
the last two years because of the cobit situation has gotten really hammered with people with new
11:31
visitors which is great for the local economy except that they're not really set up for that
11:42
my wife traveling mel you lifted in choto mary great sorry to
11:48
stop that yeah it can be windy over there as well um my wife traveling mel does a lot of
11:56
travel blogging and instagramming about yellowstone in this area so
12:01
if you are traveling planning to travel to yellowstone check out her website travelingmail.com that's a shout out to
12:08
her you know i'm really excited to see some of you guys in real time
12:14
uh uh otis i only see the show yellowstone i
12:20
mean i'm not sure what you mean by that um
12:26
uh maybe re-type in the question it's up above where i can't see it i think uh
12:32
anyway i'm excited to get this working and see so many people tuning in 15 people i'm i'm super flattered
12:41
we're going to walk over here to [Music] well you know what we're going to do i'm going to show you this
12:49
this is this pretty neat little central thing that the vfw that ever
12:55
veterans of foreign wars keeps and maintains and another thing they do is
13:00
memorial day which i believe is coming up soon um they put out
13:07
they line this whole street with flags american flags which is pretty neat and they do a
13:14
so i'm gonna go back to the river because there's this really cool thing
13:21
a local artist who goes by the screen name of yellowstone banksy does these
13:29
these rock art things with various uh colored rocks river rocks you can see
13:35
two of them right there she's anonymous i think it's a she
13:41
but she often puts her artwork below the high water mark so that it is
13:49
a bit like a mandala and that it's likely to be washed away she does do some other ones i'm again
13:56
referring to her as a she uh i'm not sure gender or sex or
14:04
thank you walking with thampson uh trey's montana primarily bozeman ah
14:11
yes uh the one with kevin costner uh i haven't actually seen the show yellowstone i have
14:20
uh my doubts about it i've heard some things that it's got some unrealistic
14:29
and um here
14:36
is great because not just the artwork but you know is what is referred to as 9th
14:44
street island and
14:49
right in here is a great place in the summer to come and swim because the current is
14:55
fairly slow the water isn't very deep and kids can play in the
15:03
construct dams and channels and stuff that sort of thing
15:10
over to the right is sacagawea park that is where it's one it's basically
15:16
our main park we have a couple others uh and i'm gonna
15:21
drop down to we'll walk over there i wanna show you a couple things just sort of the local knowledge
15:29
fun stuff looks like there's a a magpie nest probably up there i'm going to cross
15:37
over we've got a lot of dandelions bloom
15:43
[Music] well guys i am thrilled to see you here
15:50
see so many of you online thanks so much for joining us if you get again if you have any
15:55
questions tap them into the chat and i'd be happy to try and answer them [Music]
16:02
over here is a labyrinth
16:07
ah thanks shoewalker i appreciate that [Music] uh i will say and i said this in some of
16:14
my other um pre-recorded videos how much i enjoy the comments from the
16:21
community from viewers it really does keep me motivated and is a source of joy so this is used to be
16:32
sort of a wading pool and someone uh got permission i think it was aj scaff
16:40
uh and some others to create a meditative labyrinth so you just walk through along
16:47
the path as you meditate or just let your mind wander a bit
16:53
looks like it hasn't been fully maintained this spring but it's just one of those things that
17:01
individuals in the community can do thank you otis
17:08
over here we have a little pavilion you can see that roofed space it's great place we've had
17:15
a number of birthday parties for our kids there [Music] there used to be an actual house here
17:24
that uh they've torn out and put in some pit toilets looks like they're doing a
17:31
little video shoot over there by the pit toilets and i recognize a
17:38
couple people from the shane center which is our local non-profit theater and um
17:46
office space and studio space uh the reason i'm coming over this way
17:52
i'll try and avoid these some soccer fields so kids play over
17:57
here but then we're gonna cross the field and we're going to go to
18:03
[Music] another part of fleshman creek and i want to show you
18:08
[Music] thanks for toting tuning in oda ordo i
18:14
appreciate it a lot [Music]
18:22
and uh nice so we've got some [Music] antiquated uh
18:29
old uh playground equipment here which are actually kind of cool and then
18:36
we've got another place over by the tennis courts with slides and things to climb around on a whole little
18:44
area [Music] is livingston community oriented oh
18:52
yeah it is a lot of people commute over to bozeman and we're getting a lot of people
18:59
here as a bedroom community because uh the bozeman median house price in the
19:06
last two years has gone from something like low 400s to over 700
19:12
last i heard and housing prices have gone through the roof
19:27
livingston uh so yeah it's community oriented but we do
19:32
we do go most people go over to livingston at least a couple times a month for shopping and entertainment and
19:40
there's a costco over there that's a big draw as well as jobs and i want to show you
19:48
if i can find a good example here's a duck but this is fleshman creek
19:54
the water is up fairly high right now because the river is up i don't know if you can see across
20:00
the way uh yeah it's very similar to boise's
20:05
market boycees sorry it's a lot of people from other places
20:12
bigger cities moving in and places that think 700 000 is actually a deal um
20:20
so yeah it's it's demographics are changing rapidly let's see if i can find another example
20:29
of a little friend we have here [Music] and but basically there's a beaver that
20:37
lives here thank you so much nick uh
20:44
hamilton montana yeah i would love to get over to hamilton
20:52
go film a specific place different places
20:59
i just
21:08
here i'm really trust me there is a beaver
21:17
further down which is
21:23
up close these have been nod by beaver
21:30
and uh at the far end where this runs into the yellowstone
21:38
there's a family of beavers down there clear out the dam because it um
21:48
laces but the beavers are intransigent
21:57
i think i will probably do another um walk
22:05
live stream from bozeman epic moments from new york hi there thanks so much i appreciate it
22:12
um fairly soon and i was going to do this tomorrow morning but we're actually expecting to have some
22:18
wind and that plays havoc with audio so i have opted to do it this afternoon which is a
22:24
beautiful day um thank you very much epic adventure uh
22:30
epic moment sorry loving all the birds here we're getting
22:36
um got finally gotten some robins we're seeing some redheaded black birds along
22:41
the water here we also have of course magpies and crows
22:51
the wildlife in town every year or so we'll have a sighting of a black bear and even a
22:57
mountain lion and then deer are
23:04
play havoc with my wife traveling mel's garden every year so uh
23:11
yeah tweet tweet for sure i mentioned the red-headed blackbirds
23:17
red wing blackboards they also will be supplanted by the yellow-headed
23:24
blackbirds which i love because they have the most endearing
23:30
and ugliest call it's it's so gravelly and rough somebody's
23:35
lost a toy there and someone else has left it to be found festival's there yeah well we have
23:44
have our um our weekly on wednesday's farmers market
23:53
here's some more of uh fleshman creek here and this is our seventh street footbridge
23:59
um but as for festivals we do have the annual in normal years
24:06
[Music] livingston roundup july 2nd 3rd and 4th
24:11
which starts off with a big parade
24:17
and uh i'll get to that in a second shoe walker um and there's a rodeo and a parade and
24:25
fireworks every night other activities at art fair that sort of thing
24:35
[Music] and then we have uh the hoot which is they shut down main street
24:42
and they uh sorry about the connection
24:47
[Music] and they have a big country western band coming in play
24:52
and they have others like that shoe walker we are probably
24:58
oh i want to say a quarter mile from the yellowstone gateway museum
25:04
in fact my son and i took a bike ride we went by there earlier today we are currently on 7th street
25:11
[Music] headed it livingston's laid out on a
25:16
strange grid it's i want it to be north south but it's really
25:21
uh northeast southwest and then vice versa perpendicular so
25:27
it's on like a diagonal and it throws me off i've lived here for 15 years almost
25:33
yeah about 15 years and i still get confused when people talk about east and west
25:39
on these streets because it doesn't make sense in my mental geography
25:46
[Music] again anybody has any questions
25:52
hopefully the signal is getting better
25:59
a lot of people assume we have a lack of these sort of services but we
26:04
actually have pretty good cell service throughout most of the state
26:10
especially out anywhere near a town we've got broadband but not as broad as
26:17
say new york or la [Music] but enough for us to do upload videos
26:25
and that sort of thing any travel plan soon well um thanks for that question john we
26:33
have my wife's actually trying to buy tickets for 2022 to japan right now we're excited about
26:40
that at least the possibility uh we have a lot of local travel that we're gonna do so
26:45
by that i mean we're gonna float the smith river next week weather permitting thanks epic moments
26:52
um we are gonna go down to idaho my wife as i mentioned as a travel blogger we're about to cross
26:58
geyser street um so we've got a couple trips down to
27:05
idaho which she is organized we're going to go down to flaming gorge to float down
27:10
there [Music] that's down in northeast utah
27:18
and then we're going to do some backpacking trips it was a trailer behind me
27:26
um one into the bob marshall one
27:31
down to the trip one of the trails that i've filmed two in december two versions of
27:37
uh the stillwater river and then we're gonna try and do a bike trip through the gravelly range
27:43
south of ennis [Music] where in idaho this first trip is going
27:48
to be in the drigs area and then
27:53
in idaho falls kind of area and then the second trip will be more
28:00
unfortunately we will not be floating live streaming there's no cell service in
28:05
there it's pretty remote i would love to do that though maybe
28:11
if starlink [Music] becomes more once that gets more mature
28:17
i can uh maybe do something through that um yeah
28:25
all right watching this makes me miss montana daily daily dail um a lot of great
28:33
people here in this town in particular and to my friendly wonderfully welcoming i don't i
28:41
say that i'm not sure i would want to live here as a single person because it is a small town
28:46
and socially i think it can be a little difficult but i'm married with two kids and we have a
28:52
great circle of friends a great community as we come up on clark street so
28:59
if you're wondering somebody asked how far to yellowstone i think it's about an hour um
29:06
and you would go make a left here on clark actually and actually what i'm going to
29:12
do is since i'm going this way i'm going to walk you guys up to mark's which is sort of a livingston
29:18
institution [Music] we are heading towards 89
29:26
basically northwest right now [Music]
29:32
uh daley dale type in the comments if you would where were you in montana i'd love to know
29:41
[Music]
29:47
uh yeah so i am not an ultra runner i'm trying to get into bike riding
29:53
notice but 50 miles is uh is a long way even on a
29:59
bike for me [Music] hey john
30:09
i'm so glad that's the type of thing i love to hear um i i love to hear that people are
30:15
getting some value from these and they're helping i started this out because we were traveling and i thought
30:21
well i'm going to go out and walk anyway i might as well film it and i did not
30:29
expect to enjoy get so much enjoyment out of the community side of it
30:34
but i really love hearing people's stories their connections to these places and um you know to hear
30:42
about their lives a little bit in their locations so we are coming up to louis
30:49
street at the stop sign seventh and lewis if you're following along on a map [Music]
31:01
it is i said it was 60 degrees but i didn't really check that i was kind of guessing it's
31:08
probably closer to 70 now it's pretty warm it might just be my thin montana blood
31:15
[Music] but we're gonna make a left here [Music]
31:26
oh nice dale um daily sorry i have a hard time reading that my eyes are terrible daily um
31:34
yeah bozeman is a really cool town it has changed a lot just in the last
31:40
five years i moved there in 2003 before moving over here
31:47
wow it is really grown it's a it's an interesting place though a lot of cool stuff to do over there
31:53
so this is yellowstone guidelines if you're going to yellowstone they do
32:01
guided tours down there wildlife type tours that sort of thing they do a great job so consider them
32:10
also yellowstone wolf watching tours are great we've done that and then
32:15
i think it's yellowstone backcountry outfitters for horseback riding and pack trips amazing experience
32:21
[Music]
32:27
so we're coming up on 8th street 8th in lewes and i want to show you a sign that
32:32
they've been putting out today over the last couple weeks and it's actually
32:38
put out by the city and the city one of the departments
32:44
and it's no mo may save the bees and the idea is to keep
32:50
flowers growing so the bees have a little something extra to to tie themselves over and
32:57
here in montana um in fact you can see truckloads of
33:03
them being shipped around because there's so many people are dependent on them for
33:10
pollinating their alfalfa or their hay or their other
33:16
thanks epic moments [Music]
33:21
so you can see kind of oh i want to show you these flowers over here there's tons of daffodils and tulips this
33:28
is certainly an eclectic town [Music] like a lot of small towns you get purple
33:35
houses and chartreuse houses and uh hi there lovely flowers
33:44
i was look looking at your tulips and daffodils
33:50
yeah no no i'm henry henry oh what are you doing
33:57
oh i'm filming live stream to the youtube on my citywalks channel so
34:04
so i had a someone uh asking what i was doing here sorry about that um
34:11
so anyway we have a lot of agriculture obviously um and a lot of tourism
34:18
in this areas particularly particularly um
34:25
[Music] and uh so we love our bees we like our insects
34:30
we like our guides i'll have to go back and mention that i
34:37
i was a little hesitant to put her on camera without her permission but she had a uh adorable cat that she
34:43
was a giant adorable cat she was carrying you thought i was one of her neighbors i
34:49
think i actually used to live right around the corner here
34:56
before we sold our house and moved to and when traveling
35:05
across this is calendar c-a-l-l-e-n-d-e-r it's named for a person i believe i
35:12
don't know the exact history and then we're coming up on park street which is the city's
35:19
sign but it's also one of our uh local institutions
35:33
actually predates the big chain first person walker thanks so much for
35:39
checking in uh welcome and hopefully you get a chance to
35:44
see marks you guys they have amazing burgers they're not big but they are
35:51
delicious and they have great ice cream and malts and milkshakes and that sort of thing
35:56
and you can take it across the street and eat it at a picnic table with
36:03
lots of gophers and groundhogs and that sort of thing so that person pulling a boat was a
36:09
fishing guide you see a lot of that around here and we mark our seasons by when marks
36:17
opens and closes they usually open in late march early april and uh
36:25
just a moment and uh closed down late october maybe
36:35
[Music] well i think uh john i i hear you
36:42
these uh this one has as predates the one in california so
36:48
if anybody's gonna be in trouble i'm pretty sure it would be them um at least i would hope so i guess
36:55
that's not the way the law always works so this is one of the main primary drags
37:01
through town if you make a left here at this stoplight that will take you
37:07
along the frontage road out to back out to i-90 if you go back the way i came from so
37:14
behind me it'll also take you out to i-90 that's another exit and if you go straight
37:20
it'll take you out to i-90 so there's three livingston exits
37:25
um and you can see the train tracks across the way livingston started out
37:33
primarily as a well as a gateway town to yellowstone with railroad
37:39
that sort of thing this is seventh we're gonna duck back down just to get away from the traffic noise
37:48
i have a agricultural yeah sorry about that uh tourism town and uh it still is
37:57
in uh and then became a train town so a lot of railroad type jobs and then
38:04
in the 80s the big railroad company sort of pulled out
38:10
pretty much crushed livingston sorry daley
38:19
mission dropped by like 30 percent uh and it's sort of been grow growing its
38:24
way back up uh shows and films that are set in
38:30
montana [Music] um so daily
38:38
the answer is complicated it actually has a lot of film industry
38:45
people here but it's also a fairly conservative state politically
38:53
and the [Music]
38:58
the tax incentives that some of the film companies pursue um
39:04
were basically taken out and erased because the conservative folks didn't want to
39:12
help out any of the hollywood types [Music]
39:17
and they are starting to reinstitute some of those
39:22
which should bring back some more jobs hopefully uh they're just a tad different
39:30
john yeah that's a different part of the part of the road for sure [Music]
39:36
hi wren welcome to the stream thanks for joining us wow we're up to 20 people that's fantastic
39:42
[Music] so you will see a lot of uh like 406
39:47
type things here in montana which is our area code we only have the one area code
39:53
we have just over a million people and due to the census [Music] we get to have another representative
40:00
for the first time so we'll have two senators and two reps uh yeah it really is ran
40:10
[Music] uh we do not have a uh walmart here in livingston there is one
40:17
over in bozeman and it does a lot of business but the
40:22
downtown is super vibrant right now uh part of that is just the number of people coming in and moving
40:30
into town and the amount of money coming into town quite frankly
40:36
and most of those people prefer to shop downtown or at one of the other box
40:42
stores which is out on 19th i'll do another live stream since this is going so well from over in
40:49
bozeman another time and we can certainly talk about that but
40:55
uh but we'll go downtown maybe and we can uh i can show you around what that looks like
41:02
hi there sorry hi there uh
41:09
it's always a little awkward to be live streaming and talking to the camera
41:15
when uh people walk by that was actually the wife of yellowstone guides
41:21
[Music] do the five wren i'm not sure what that
41:29
means [Music] um we
41:34
are back on calendar we're on louis sorry walking back down towards downtown
41:44
this is a lot of fun for me guys i'm glad you're here i'm commenting i love showing you my
41:51
town my state it is a brilliant place i actually
41:57
have had a couple ideas along this walk that i'd like to try maybe later in the summer
42:02
one there's a gal named lindy frank who has lived here for genera her
42:08
family's been here for generations and she knows so much about the history of livingston
42:14
thinking maybe i would uh see if she wants to do a walk with us and uh give you a lot
42:21
more of the history than i possibly can um
42:26
hopefully this wind on the microphone isn't too bad uh john uh really that's interesting
42:34
i'm a little surprised by that but i guess not it's a it's a turn of the century small town
42:42
so although turn of the century um another idea
42:48
would be to go around during one of the art walks and um
42:54
maybe stop into the various venues and um
43:00
and talk to the artists or the gallery owners that sort of thing i thought that might be interesting and
43:06
then they also have a yellow bus tour sort of someone has purchased an old yellowstone
43:12
tour bus from the 1930s and uh they do tours around town it
43:19
might be fun to do that yeah otis the price house prices here
43:25
are for a town of 8 000 people in rural montana yeah they're
43:30
they're immense thanks ren i appreciate that i'm using a dji osmo
43:40
mobile 3. and uh we've got an older iphone 6s
43:49
[Music] also for those who are interested speaking of film productions it was
43:55
30 years ago but a river runs through it was filmed in part here
44:00
and i believe this is one of the churches [Music] that are in the film although they
44:07
flipped the image so that it looks like the reverse
44:13
and they must have reversed the sign as well because i remember there was a sign out front
44:19
down this way we'll go down to calendar what the hey so this is 5th street
44:31
and across here is the united methodist church i don't think that was on sorry
44:37
was on uh uh what do you call it river runs through it but the one across
44:45
the street was as was some of the early shots of the when they were kids in the alley
44:51
one of the boys uh makes makes a funny face at one of the ladies
44:57
on the balcony i think that was filmed downtown more wind here that's what we're famous
45:03
for beautiful old homes here [Music]
45:10
so this is 5th street over on 4th street which we will probably walk down
45:17
has a lot of the older big homes these across the street are fairly new
45:23
they're about 10 years old but i wanted to show you a stone's throw
45:29
bed and breakfast at least i think they've had to shut down but there used to be a bed and breakfast by
45:36
mick and donald and they're just putting the finishing touches on
45:42
this little house up here as well these lots were empty for years
45:48
but i'm so i'm glad to see that they are being built upon and developed in such a
45:55
nice way to see some of the
46:01
gear try not to get wet here
46:10
so across the way is an old school house and uh that has been converted into
46:18
um condos so and then back behind there there's some
46:24
new buildings that are condos as well
46:38
stopping by hope you have a great day great afternoon great weekend thanks for stopping in
46:44
[Music] yeah someone mentioned forget who was
46:51
checking zillow [Music] i think they're uh a lot of local
46:58
brokers trying not to are not posting as much onto there and so if you go to eralandmark.com
47:06
you can select a bunch of homes you get a good idea of what's uh
47:14
really on the market in actual prices and you can do it by map there as well
47:19
it's a pretty decent site so this white house across the way is
47:24
now owned by an architect friend of ours but used to be the hospital
47:32
and there was something like 40 rooms it's a big house but not 40 rooms big this is yellowstone
47:39
and i'm gonna take us down here if we went down two blocks we would be downtown again but uh i'm gonna go down yellowstone for
47:46
at least a block you can see it's oh it's not tarmac it's
47:52
still cement big cement slabs and it's been like this ever since i've been
47:58
here last 15 years with a couple patches so whatever they've
48:03
done to it it has withstood this the test of time for sure
48:08
love this old studebaker wagon [Music] again i apologize for the wind
48:22
you can see how wide the street is too [Music]
48:33
mainly want to show you i have [Music]
48:40
greetings dr reza al-rumji john thanks so much
48:48
thanks so much and i hope to see you again otis uh yeah so
48:55
it is there's not a lot of um volume some nice old houses in livingston
49:01
there's not a lot for sale things that do come up for sale have been getting put under contract almost immediately
49:07
people are buying houses sight unseen [Music] here's a couple historic
49:14
i don't want to get too close because people live there i'll show you this big one though
49:20
because it's probably one of the biggest homes in livingston [Music]
49:27
thank you doctor hi there um try not to get run over here
49:36
[Music] i'm just joking people don't run over each other here
49:43
um hi there so this house here it's fantastic
49:50
every halloween um this house all the houses along here decorate and
49:56
there's a big um they shut off traffic and this is kind of where all the kids
50:02
come not all of them but most of them and uh all along yellowstone here and
50:07
people that live here will have parties and sort of the the price of admission for their friends
50:14
is to bring a bag of candy um for them to hand out to the kids because there are thousands of kids
50:20
that come along here and it's a lot of fun you see all kinds of great costumes they didn't do that this past year for
50:27
obvious reasons [Music] but hopefully they'll get back to it
50:33
their the rodeo is unless something else happens the rodeo
50:38
is going to happen july 2nd 3rd and 4th some tickets get them beforehand if
50:45
you're coming because they do sell out [Music]
50:51
i am so used to walking around town that i just realized that i drove to our starting point along the
50:58
river and at some point i'm going to have to go back to get my car uh otis thanks so much for stopping by
51:04
thanks for your great comments and your interactions i really appreciate that and i hope you have a great weekend
51:10
[Music] so a lot of these trees are ash trees
51:16
along the boulevard here and there's been a real problem with uh
51:21
it's like the ash borer insect um coming and killing them and they've
51:26
had to chop down a bunch of them which is a real shame because they in the spring and summer they are just
51:33
beautiful and they add so much wonderful shade there's something about a city with trees
51:39
versus a city without trees that it's just so much more livable
51:44
here's a well let me show you this one this nice
51:49
old historic home and then there's going to
51:55
be another one up here on the right you can see some of the diverse colors that are
52:03
painted so i'll do another live stream this is
52:10
going real well and definitely do another one from livingston maybe do it downtown and i can talk a little bit more about
52:15
some of the older downtown stuff but there is if you
52:21
[Music] see dr reza
52:27
not a lot of traffic it's the middle of the workday and this is more of a residential side
52:32
of things and it's a small town um anyway jim harrison uh
52:38
many of you may know he wrote [Music]
52:45
the book he wrote a lot of books and poetry great author um they made a movie about
52:52
it with brad pitt um ah sorry about that blanking on that
53:00
book um but his daughter jamie harrison also writes and she wrote a couple books that are
53:08
set in town a town that is basically it basically is livingston
53:13
although it's called something else one of which is called the widow nash great book really enjoyed that so if you get a
53:21
chance to read that i think it's well worth it [Music]
53:27
i've got some kids trying to uh be on live stream
53:34
yeah thanks tom i appreciate it i'm excited about this it's taken me long enough i've been wanting to do it for a year
53:40
i tried to do it last spring with a gopro and i couldn't get it to work
53:45
uh but this is going pretty well we'll see what my uh cellular bill is but that's all right
53:53
um anyway i know a lot of a lot of these houses that we're passing
53:59
i know people that live there and i'm a little reticent to
54:04
mention that because i don't want to infringe on anyone's privacy
54:15
got our flag out nice [Music] we're going to go back and cross the
54:21
bridge that i showed you guys at the very beginning the stone bridge over the lagoon
54:28
it's uh it's a lot of fun to oh love this tiny little library we got a bunch of these around town uh
54:39
uh daily i don't know i haven't watched that i think if i'm
54:46
remembering the right movie that might have been filmed over in ennis i'm not exactly
54:53
sure i think he played sort of a husband that was [Music]
54:59
kind of having a hard economic time and that sort of thing i didn't see the movie
55:05
they do film a fair amount in fact there's been three or four movies being filmed here recently i don't think
55:10
they're but several documentaries and a couple
55:15
fictional films i think the that industry is picking back up uh the last year or two well not last
55:24
year but the two years before [Music]
55:30
so in montana one of the seasons is mud season which we are in the middle
55:35
of and uh it's kind of the time when the snow
55:41
hasn't quite melted yet things haven't quite greened up yet and
55:46
but there's not enough to ski on so you're kind of left wishing for warmer
55:53
days drier days uh we're kind of uh hopefully not too much further before we're done
56:00
but at the end of that is green up and that's kind of what we're in the middle of now where all the dead grasses and all the dead
56:06
trees start to uh come back to life to bud and have
56:13
flowers and show signs of life again and then we get like uh two and a half
56:22
months of sorry i'm trying to get you a view of these brand new leaves yay um
56:30
then we got a couple months of summer and then it's gone uh it always is surprising how quickly it goes by i apologize for
56:37
that swirl i know that makes people dizzy but here's our stone bridge you'll see
56:43
kids and adults fishing from here all summer in the spring
56:51
where kids come out and they they i think they stock the pond you're
56:57
not allowed to they're not allowed to stock the rivers but they can stock ponds in montana there's a civic center across
57:03
the way and the statue of sacagawea sacagawea and uh we're walking along the bridge
57:12
here's livingston peak in the absaroka range in the distance that's a wilderness area if you saw
57:18
[Music] my seuss creek walk from yesterday
57:23
i filmed that on monday i think any case it's right behind that hill you see in
57:29
the distance it's on the far side so not far from town at all about
57:36
probably a 15-20 minute drive and most of that is along a slower dirt road
57:44
at the end that takes about 10 minutes um
57:51
sacagawea park we've got our tennis courts a lot of kids in the playground so i'm
57:56
not going to go over there [Music] but i will show you we'll go over to the
58:02
horseshoe pits i don't know how many of you are familiar with the game of horseshoes but
58:09
it's basically cowboy bocce where you throw horseshoes at a steel
58:15
post in the ground trying to get a ringer
58:21
that's a lot of fun and later in the summer you'll see people out here in the evening having cookouts and playing horseshoes
58:29
and uh you know having soccer practice that sort of thing playing tennis it can be a challenge in
58:37
a place as windy as this to uh to play tennis
58:43
but where there's a will there's a way they just redid these tennis courts a few years ago
58:49
these have always been well maintained but the two on the far side had
58:56
they sorted that out and refurbed it all and now we've got i think five tennis courts
59:03
here and another i think two over by the middle school
59:08
[Music] and i'll show you these [Music]
59:14
these horseshoe pits which could also use some work i think some love
59:21
but you don't really need a whole lot of i mean it's literally a
59:26
two steel posts and some horseshoes
59:32
[Music] so you can see the steel post and one
59:39
person stands on this side hello kinetic flow welcome and then you
59:44
throw that direction so there's one two three four five six seven eight nine ten
59:50
i think twelve twelve uh horseshoe pits is what they call them
1:00:00
good vibes kinetic flow thanks so much [Music]
1:00:05
love these big giant trees and in the fall all these trees and foliage turns
1:00:12
orange and yellow and on a good year super vibrant absolutely gorgeous we're going to go
1:00:18
back over to the yellowstone river [Music]
1:00:27
maybe another time we'll uh go out onto night street island it's not is there's only a few things to
1:00:33
see out there one of which is the river so we'll avoid showing these ladies
1:00:46
but this is the uh the place in sorry the place the river yeah
1:00:52
hi uh and so that river to the right of 9th street island has
1:00:58
really filled up over the last few years six or seven years ago the bridge got
1:01:04
washed out and they had to replace it we put a military bridge over the top of it for a little while
1:01:16
kinetic flow it said good vibes not goodbye sorry about that
1:01:21
but um this whole living thing is the longest undammed
1:01:28
river in the continental united states and so it ebbs and flows and it's not going
1:01:35
to be too long and this whole section will be filled in and the river will be
1:01:40
150 yards further out you can see the rip wrap
1:01:48
here to prevent erosion i think it was 1996 or 1997
1:01:53
they had a massive runoff big melt big water big warm spell
1:02:00
melted and uh flooded a good chunk of the town and um so they've been
1:02:09
uh they've taken measures a few years ago they were expecting another big flood they
1:02:15
made a temporary quote-unquote dirt levy all along the golf course further
1:02:21
downstream the flood never really showed up and
1:02:27
we still got the dirt levy which is actually kind of nice so they won't have to reinstall it next time
1:02:32
and maybe i'll do another one of these when the um
1:02:39
during run off the peak of runoff if i can it but it's been an hour and three
1:02:44
minutes guys thank you so much for joining us today here at citywalks leave us a comment tell your friends
1:02:51
