Trump-Starmer trade deal: Why UK businesses are still worried

Six weeks since the UK-US trading arrangement was first announced, the deal is now ‘done’. So, now it looks like Brits will be very well insulated from tariffs. Why? Well, Trump told reporters, shortly after signing the deal: “Because I like them”. Starmer managed to secure the agreement just before Trump made an early exit from the G7 summit. The current 27.5 per cent tariff on car imports will be slashed to ten per cent – that’s for the first 100,000 vehicles shipped into the US each year. But there is still a major question mark over the steel industry, and Trump was very coy on this topic.
