Why British productivity is low when the UK economy grew
The UK economy has grown. However, Brits have been warned not to get too carried away. In official data released on Thursday, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said GDP grew by 0.3 per cent in the second quarter of the year, compared to the 0.7 per cent growth in the first three months of the year. There were contractions in April and May after President Trump’s tariff war and higher taxes threatened the UK economy. But growth of 0.4 per cent in June pushed GDP figures higher, with construction enjoying the largest gains. UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves said the latest figures were positive for Britain. She claims her policies aimed at getting the UK building are fuelling growth.
