I think the white paper and your answer
0:02
there obviously there is huge potential
0:04
for digital ID in terms of new arrivals
0:06
and ensure securing our borders and
0:08
having an immigration system fit for
0:10
purpose just in terms of the wider
0:12
population other issues. So for example
0:13
online uh fraud and online crime is one
0:17
of the huge challenges for your
0:19
department um and for crime prevention
0:21
and uh the criminal justice system. Do
0:24
you see digital ID having a role to play
0:27
in that? Um and yeah more generally
0:30
across the population or or do you see
0:32
it confined to simply an issue of
0:34
immigration and border control within
0:36
the opices of the home office of course
0:37
because there are other benefits in
0:38
other departments. So I think um our
0:41
clear focus is around being able to
0:44
ensure that we've got proper uh rules
0:47
being respected and enforced in the
0:49
immigration system and uh and in the
0:51
asylum system as well that we can make
0:53
sure that if uh that there is evidence
0:57
if people are not here lawfully or they
0:59
are not working lawfully we can get that
1:02
information. we can actually uh make
1:04
sure we can take the much stronger
1:05
action to prevent that kind of abuse of
1:09
the system taking place. There are then
1:11
wider uh considerations for the um for
1:15
DSIT on making sure that you've also got
1:18
um secure standards, secure underpinning
1:21
for people to be able to use digital ID
1:24
whether it be online and so on um as
1:27
well. So there's a wider considerations
1:29
there. Just follow up on that in terms
1:32
of that DSP one login using digital ID
1:35
in in terms of uh helping
1:38
customers and helping businesses
1:40
interact. There is a role for the home
1:42
office and and crime prevention and
1:45
ensuring that uh online activity is safe
1:48
whether that is in regards to child
1:49
abuse that happens online increasingly
1:51
and online fraud. Is there conversations
1:53
going on between the home office and
1:54
DESIT as to working together on this or
1:57
or is it working in silos? At the moment
1:59
we do work with DEIT on all of the
2:02
issues around the online crime and
2:04
online uh abuse and online exploitation.
2:08
So there is a lot of crossgovernment
2:10
working. Um and I think part of the
2:13
issue here is um making sure that you
2:16
can develop systems that can evolve over
2:19
time to be used in the most effective
2:22
way. And when you
