expert David. We have seen the Iranian
0:03
regime which obviously at least for now
0:05
its missiles appear to be a little
0:07
impotent. That's good news. But they are
0:09
still a risk on the cyber side, are they
0:12
not? That's absolutely correct. Iran has
0:15
been building up their cyber
0:16
capabilities for for a number of years
0:17
and they are on par with other nation
0:19
states. Uh they very much leverage their
0:22
cyber capabilities very similarly to
0:24
what we do here in the United States
0:25
with cyber command, a direct extension
0:27
of military force. And so DHS recently
0:30
released an advisory along with CISA,
0:31
the cyber security infrastructure and
0:33
security agency around uh private sector
0:35
corporations and government entities to
0:37
be on high alert right now uh for these
0:39
cyber attacks. And you know what's
0:41
really interesting about cyber attacks
0:42
is that there's really been no red lines
0:44
ever drawn there. It's kind of a loose
0:46
playing field. So Iran can inflict some
0:48
pretty substantial damage here in the
0:50
United States specifically, you know, in
0:51
manufacturing, supply chain, retail, uh
0:54
critical infrastructure, uh things that
0:55
can disrupt our normal day life that
0:57
cause pain here in the United States and
0:59
really not be seen as crossing that that
1:01
red line of loss of life or direct
1:03
military uh force as it goes along. So
1:05
we're all on heightened alert right now
1:06
and my advice to private sector
1:08
corporations is to be at high alert
1:09
right now uh from a defensive
1:11
perspective because we are anticipating
1:13
some retaliation uh from Iran
1:15
specifically from their cyber
1:16
capabilities. Yeah and we just showed
1:18
some of the stocks the forinets the
1:20
crowd strikes the zscalers we can bring
1:23
them back up guys they are all higher by
1:25
about one and a half to 2 and a half% as
1:27
well. So anything related to that is is
1:31
higher right now. The markets by the way
1:32
are are at session highs. Palo Alto is
1:34
up about 1.7%. If you're a company right
1:37
now, David, if you're advising a
1:39
corporation who are always on the
1:41
lookout, by the way, for cyber threats,
1:43
what is your is there new advice here?
1:46
Yeah, Iran operates by a very specific
1:49
playbook. Um, you know, they typically
1:50
go after user accounts through fishing
1:52
or social engineering. They directly
1:54
attack external perimeters. Um, most
1:56
recently, they've been getting more into
1:57
the cloud infrastructure and software as
1:59
a service provider. So, can they impact
2:01
not just one organization or company but
2:03
hundreds if not thousands of
2:05
corporations and companies? They've also
2:06
been probing our critical
2:07
infrastructure, our grids, water
2:09
treatment facilities. Uh, interesting
2:11
statistic, over 85% of our critical
2:13
infrastructure is private sector owned.
2:14
It's not owned by the government. So,
2:16
right now, you know, we have to be very
2:18
digent on putting our defenses up and
2:20
monitoring for those specific issues um
2:22
as they arise so that we can minimize
2:24
the damage. you know it the catastrophic
2:26
breaches that we see is when you an
2:28
attacker has been in an infrastructure
2:29
for a long you know maintained period of
2:31
time and that's the major concern Iran
2:33
has been you know trying to conduct
2:35
these operations for this type of event
2:37
so you know they have footholds in
2:39
organizations they have footholds in
2:40
critical infrastructure that may not
2:41
have been detected at this period of
2:43
time uh that they can launch these types
2:45
of attacks and cause these massive
2:46
outages we have to be really diligent to
2:49
try to find these before that actually
2:50
happens and uh that's my my
2:52
recommendation to companies right now is
2:54
be very digent more so than normal uh
2:56
because of these times and Iran
2:57
specifically targeting these other
2:59
industry verticals which is not typical
3:01
for them is something that's definitely
3:02
going to happen. You know I don't want
3:03
to put you on the spot David but we're
3:05
kind of rolling with the news here that
3:06
there's the ability the United States to
3:08
kind of take take Iran offline. I mean
3:10
the people there have very limited
3:12
access to information as well but could
3:14
we just kind of wipe out their internet
3:17
for lack of a better term? We we
3:19
definitely have those capabilities uh
3:21
with the NSA uh their offensive
3:23
capabilities as well as with cyber
3:24
command. Uh we are very good at what we
3:26
do. Um I was actually stationed in
3:28
Bahrain in Iraq in Qatar wait all these
3:30
areas that are that are known uh that
3:32
are being h that's happening right now.
3:34
And our our offensive capabilities are
3:36
are second to none and that's definitely
3:38
something that's on the playing table
3:39
for um these types of operations. But
3:42
again, it's more of an escalatory type
3:43
of event, right? We came in with the the
3:45
bombs. Iran sent six that were
3:47
intercepted and and and seems to be a
3:49
deescalation situation. If we go and we
3:51
start conducting these operations uh
3:54
abroad, which I'm sure they're already
3:55
happening. What do you mean you were
3:56
stationed there? I did not that you're
3:57
breaking news to us on the air, David.
3:59
What What did you do over there? I was
4:01
in the intelligence community. Um I did
4:03
two tours in Iraq uh and one in Bahrain
4:05
and then uh Afghanistan and spent a lot
4:07
of time in the Middle
