I confess to almighty God and to you my
4:36
brothers and sisters that I have greatly
4:39
sinned in my thoughts and in my words in
4:43
what I have done and in what I have
4:45
failed to do
4:46
through my fault through my fault
4:49
through my most Grievous fault and
4:51
therefore I ask the Blessed Mary ever
4:53
virgin all the angels and Saints and you
4:57
my brothers and sisters to pray for me
5:00
to the Lord Our God and may almighty God
5:02
have mercy on us forgive us our sins and
5:05
bring us to everlasting life
5:07
Lord have mercy Christ have mercy
5:12
Lord have mercy
5:14
and let us pray
5:16
oh God who prepared a delightful
5:18
dwelling for yourself in the heart of
5:20
Saint the Virgin Saint Gertrude
5:22
graciously bring light through her
5:24
intercessions to the darkness of our
5:26
hearts that we may joyfully experience
5:29
you present and at work within us
5:31
through our Lord Jesus Christ your son
5:33
who lives and reigns with you in the
5:35
unity of the Holy Spirit one God forever
5:38
and ever
5:49
a reading from The Book of Revelation
5:52
I John had a vision of an Open Door to
5:55
Heaven and I heard the trumpet-like
5:58
voice that had spoken to me before
6:01
saying come up here and I will show you
6:05
what must happen afterwards
6:08
at once I was caught up in spirit a
6:11
throne was there in heaven and on the
6:13
throne Sat one whose appearance sparkled
6:16
like Jasper and carnelian
6:19
around the throne was a Halo as
6:22
brilliant as an emerald
6:24
surrounding the throne I saw 24 other
6:27
Thrones on which 24 Elders sat dressed
6:32
in white garments and with gold crowns
6:35
on their heads
6:36
from the throne came flashes of
6:39
lightning Rumblings and peels of thunder
6:42
seven flaming torches burned in front of
6:45
the throne which are the seven spirits
6:48
of God
6:50
in front of the throne was something
6:52
that resembled a sea of glass like
6:54
Crystal
6:56
in the center and around the throne
6:58
there were four living creatures covered
7:01
with eyes in front and in back
7:04
the first creature resembled a lion
7:07
the second was like a calf the third had
7:10
a face like that of a man and the fourth
7:13
looked like an eagle in flight
7:16
the four living creatures each of them
7:19
with six wings were covered with eyes
7:21
inside and out
7:24
day and night they do not stop
7:26
exclaiming
7:27
holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty
7:32
who was and who is and who is to come
7:36
whenever the living creatures give glory
7:39
and honor and thanks to the one who sits
7:41
on the throne who lives forever and ever
7:44
the 24 Elders fall down before the one
7:48
who sits on the throne and worship him
7:50
who lives forever and ever
7:54
they throw down their crowns Before the
7:56
Throne exclaiming worthy are you Lord
7:59
our God
8:01
to receive glory and honor and power for
8:04
you created all things because of your
8:07
will they came to be and were created
8:10
the word of the Lord
8:14
holy holy holy Lord Mighty God holy holy
8:19
holy Lord Mighty God
8:22
praise the Lord in his Sanctuary Praise
8:25
Him in the firmament of his strength
8:27
praise him for his mighty Deeds praise
8:31
him for his Sovereign Majesty
8:33
holy holy holy Lord God
8:37
praise him with the blast of the trumpet
8:40
praise him with liar and hope praise him
8:43
with timbrel and dance praise him with
8:46
strings and pipe holy holy holy Lord
8:50
Mighty God
8:52
praise him with sounding symbols praise
8:55
him with clanging symbols let everything
8:58
that has breath praise the Lord Alleluia
9:02
holy holy holy Lord Mighty God
9:19
the Lord be with you
9:22
a reading from the holy Gospel According
9:24
to Saint Luke Glory To You O Lord while
9:27
a people were listening to Jesus speak
9:29
he proceeded to tell a parable because
9:31
he was near Jerusalem and they thought
9:34
that the kingdom of God would appear
9:35
there immediately and so he said a
9:38
nobleman went off to a distant country
9:40
to obtain the kingship for himself and
9:43
then to return
9:44
he called 10 of his servants and gave
9:47
them ten gold coins and told them engage
9:50
in trade with these until I return
9:52
his fellow citizens however despised him
9:55
and sent a delegation after him to
9:57
announce we do not want this man to be
9:59
our King
10:00
but when he returned after obtaining the
10:02
kingship he had the servants called to
10:05
whom he had given the money to learn
10:07
what he had they had gained by Trading
10:10
the first came forward and said sir your
10:13
gold coin has earned 10 additional ones
10:15
and he replied well done good servant
10:17
you have been faithful in these very
10:19
small matters take charge of 10 cities
10:22
then the second came and reported your
10:24
gold coin sir has earned five more and
10:27
to this servant too he said you take
10:29
charge of five cities then the other
10:32
servant came and said sir here is your
10:34
gold coin I kept it stored away in a
10:36
handkerchief for I was afraid of you
10:38
because you are a demanding man you take
10:41
up what you did not lay down and you
10:43
harvest what you did not plant
10:45
and he said to him with your own words I
10:48
shall condemn you you Wicked servant you
10:51
knew I was a demanding man taking up
10:53
what I did not lay down and harvesting
10:55
what I did not plant
10:57
why did you not put my money in a bank
10:59
then on my return I could have collected
11:02
it with interest
11:03
and to those standing by he said take
11:05
the gold coin from him and give it to
11:07
the servant who has ten
11:09
but they said to him sir he has 10 gold
11:11
coins and he replied I tell you to
11:14
everyone who has more will be given but
11:16
from the one who has not even what he
11:18
has will be taken away
11:20
now as for those enemies of mine who did
11:22
not want me as their King bring them
11:24
here and slay them before me and after
11:27
he had said this he proceeded on his
11:29
journey up to Jerusalem
11:30
the gospel of the Lord
11:36
Saint Margaret is on my list of people
11:39
or Saints rather with truly awful
11:41
patronages she is the patroness of The
11:44
Unwanted which is one of those tragic
11:46
stories which is very very common
11:48
honestly among Royals and especially
11:51
when it comes to princes and princes as
11:53
throughout medieval and and modern
11:56
Europe where they they have this lovely
11:58
young woman who comes in from some other
12:00
country she's the second or third
12:02
daughter of a king and so she's married
12:04
off to this Prince or whoever he gets
12:06
into a battle with his next door
12:08
neighbor he's killed and then there's
12:11
this princess who has no purpose anymore
12:13
she's technically a queen but she cannot
12:15
rule by because of the the way that the
12:17
laws are set up and so she either kind
12:20
of gets thrown out made Marion Style
12:22
just to figure it out or she is killed
12:25
or she's married off to whoever else
12:28
it's never a good situation and it
12:30
happened hundreds and hundreds of times
12:32
in history and so it was with Margaret
12:35
who found herself as the queen of
12:36
Scotland having absolutely no money no
12:39
Authority no way to do anything and left
12:42
going well what do I do now and so she
12:45
basically decided to Simply say well if
12:47
this is my lot this is my lot she began
12:49
to work with the poor and with the those
12:52
in need and became you know kind of a
12:54
princess die sort of figure among the
12:57
people in and around Edinburgh where you
13:00
know she just did what she could do for
13:02
people and it's a remarkable example of
13:04
how uh the the circumstances of life
13:07
don't in any way shape or form determine
13:10
who we are or what our character is or
13:13
what it is we hope to accomplish and how
13:15
we hope to do it and so St Margaret is a
13:17
wonderful figure even as she is the one
13:19
of the most depressing uh patrons you
13:21
could possibly imagine the patroness of
13:23
The Unwanted we also of course today
13:25
have Saint Gertrude who is an ideal
13:27
Saint to think about in the month of
13:29
November a month when we're thinking
13:30
about the holy souls in purgatory
13:32
because she famously in the midst of a
13:35
series of miraculous and mystical
13:37
Visions was told by the Lord that if a
13:40
certain prayer was said with a great
13:42
devotion in the heart that the Lord
13:44
would release from purgatory a thousand
13:46
souls for each time the prayer was said
13:48
this does cause a little bit of
13:50
confusion because we have the problem of
13:54
well is the Lord keeping folks in
13:56
purgatory just to keep them there is
13:58
there some kind of you know trick or
13:59
something is it like one of those things
14:01
where you have to put a quarter in this
14:02
you know at the store where the kids
14:04
want the bouncy ball or the gumball
14:05
outside the the grocery store I mean
14:07
what's the deal how does this all work
14:09
together and of course there is and
14:11
there always has been a certain degree
14:12
of confusion where Purgatory is
14:15
understood in one way as merely the
14:18
process of being made ready for heaven
14:20
and so the minute you're ready you're
14:22
ready at the same time Purgatory is
14:25
understood as a group of people or
14:28
individuals who need our prayers that we
14:30
have an obligation to pray for them and
14:32
there is a necessity of us praying for
14:35
them in order for them to experience
14:38
that process of purification that they
14:40
need and those two do seem to come into
14:43
conflict a bit and honestly there is a
14:46
lack of clarity because this is a type
14:48
of thing we just don't know that much
14:49
about and so we know that our Lord told
14:52
Saint Gertrude that praying for the holy
14:55
souls in purgatory is necessary for us
14:58
and it's necessary for them it's
15:00
necessary for our growth and Holiness
15:02
and it's necessary for them for some
15:05
reason although we don't know what that
15:07
reason is and the Prayer of Saint
15:09
Gertrude to release Souls from purgatory
15:11
is the prayer par Excellence to do that
15:14
now I don't understand the theology
15:16
deeply enough just to be completely
15:18
Frank because it's extremely confusing
15:21
it's very complicated and we're really
15:24
working off of a dozen different
15:25
mystical Visions from a dozen different
15:27
Saints across about 400 years and so all
15:30
I'll say is that what the church teaches
15:32
and understands is that Purgatory is a
15:34
necessary process of purification that
15:37
everyone basically with with very very
15:39
few exceptions who dies in this life if
15:42
they're going to heaven they're going to
15:43
go through some purgative process there
15:46
is a need for us to pray for them there
15:49
does not seem to be a genuine limitation
15:52
where if there's not somebody here to
15:54
pray for you you can't ever make it
15:56
along to Heaven that's not the case you
15:58
will make it along to Heaven still there
16:01
is a great deal of spiritual value for
16:03
us and for the holy souls in us praying
16:06
for them and we'll just leave those few
16:08
things kind of floating there in a
16:10
certain degree of of un or imperfect
16:13
Clarity because it's just not something
16:15
that's that's easier to understand as
16:18
with a lot of things like relics or holy
16:21
water or exorcisms in the Latin language
16:23
there's just certain components we don't
16:25
understand of the way that the Universe
16:27
works and we just kind of say well if
16:29
this is what the Lord wants we'll just
16:31
kind of roll with that
16:32
uh also today after Mass we'll pick up
16:35
with our Sunday our last rather of the
16:37
Wednesday evening catechisms and we'll
16:39
be talking today about Pope Saint John
16:41
Paul II a little about his history and a
16:44
little about why he's so very very
16:46
important uh in world history even
16:48
though he's been gone for for 20 some
16:50
are almost 20 years now he remains a
16:53
genuinely important figure in our
16:55
Catholic faith and so I'll be talking
16:57
about that I say the last Wednesday
16:59
evening catechism because we'll continue
17:01
doing the Wednesday morning catechisms
17:03
that uh that are labeled the CU
17:05
catechast and so if you're watching
17:07
online those will continue we'll
17:09
continue with our scripture studies next
17:11
week but the evening Pro portion of it
17:14
tonight will be the last of those
17:15
certainly for 2022 and possibly uh here
17:19
in our Parish just based upon the the
17:21
way that the attendance has turned out
17:23
but we will have the live presentation
17:25
this evening if you're watching you can
17:27
you can skip the uh the live stream
17:29
presentation and come for a live
17:30
presentation this evening in the hall at
17:32
6pm yeah otherwise please stick around
17:34
after Mass for Pope Saint John Paul II
17:36
his story and his importance in the name
17:39
of the father and the son and the holy
17:40
spirit amen
17:53
blessed are you Lord God of all creation
17:55
for through your goodness we have
17:57
received the bread we offer you fruit of
17:59
the earth and work of human hands it
18:01
will become for us the bread of life
18:06
thank you
18:12
thank you
18:24
blessed are you Lord God of all creation
18:27
for through your goodness we have
18:28
received the wine we offer you fruit of
18:30
the vine and work of human hands it will
18:33
become our spiritual dream
18:40
foreign
18:45
my brothers and sisters that my
18:48
sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to
18:50
God the almighty father
18:57
for our good and the good of all his
18:58
holy church
19:00
as we Proclaim your wonders O Lord in
19:02
the virgin virgin blessed Gertrude we
19:04
humbly implore your majesty that as her
19:07
merits are pleasing to you so too our
19:09
dutiful service may find favor in your
19:11
sight through Christ Our Lord
19:14
the Lord be with you lift up your hearts
19:18
let us give thanks to the Lord our God
19:23
it is truly right and just our duty and
19:26
our Salvation always and everywhere to
19:28
give you thanks Lord Holy Father
19:30
Almighty and eternal God for you are
19:33
praised in the company of your Saints
19:35
and in crowning their merits you Crown
19:37
your own gifts by their way of life you
19:39
offer us an example and by communion
19:41
with him you give us companionship and
19:44
by their intercession sure support so
19:47
that encouraged by so great a cloud of
19:49
witnesses we may run as Victors in the
19:52
race before us and win with them the
19:54
imperishable Crown of Glory through
19:56
Christ Our Lord and so with the Angels
19:59
and Archangels with great multitude of
20:01
the Saints we sing the hymn of your
20:02
praise as Without End we acclaim
20:06
holy holy holy Lord God of hosts Heaven
20:11
and Earth are full of your glory hosanna
20:14
in the highest blessed is he who comes
20:17
in the name of the Lord hosanna in the
20:20
highest
20:22
and you are indeed holy O Lord and all
20:25
you have created rightly gives you
20:26
praise for through your son our Lord
20:28
Jesus Christ by the power and working of
20:31
the Holy Spirit you give life to all
20:34
things and make them holy and you never
20:36
cease to gather a people to yourself so
20:39
that from the rising of the sun to its
20:41
setting a pure sacrifice may be offered
20:43
to your name and therefore O Lord we
20:46
humbly implore you by The Same Spirit
20:48
graciously make holy these gifts we have
20:50
brought to you for consecration that
20:52
they may become the body and blood of
20:55
your son our Lord Jesus Christ at whose
20:58
command we celebrate these Mysteries
21:00
for on the night he was betrayed he
21:02
himself took bread and giving you thanks
21:04
he said the blessing broke the bread and
21:06
gave it to his disciples saying
21:09
take this all of you and eat of it for
21:12
this is my body which will be given up
21:16
for you
21:37
in a similar way when supper was ended
21:39
he took the chalice and giving you
21:41
thanks he said the blessing and gave the
21:43
Chalice to his disciples saying
21:46
take this all of you and drink from it
21:48
for this is the Chalice of My Blood
21:52
the blood of the new and eternal
21:54
Covenant which will be poured out for
21:56
you and for many for the Forgiveness of
21:58
sins
21:59
do this in memory of me
22:18
the mystery of faith we Proclaim your
22:22
death O Lord and profess your
22:25
Resurrection until you come again
22:28
and therefore O Lord as we celebrate the
22:30
memorial of the saving passion of your
22:32
son his wondrous resurrection and
22:35
Ascension into heaven and as we look
22:37
forward to his second coming we offer
22:39
you in Thanksgiving this holy and Living
22:42
Sacrifice
22:44
look we pray upon the oblation of your
22:46
church and recognizing the sacrificial
22:48
victim by whose death you willed to
22:51
reconcile us to yourself
22:53
grant that we who are nourished by the
22:55
body and blood of your son and filled
22:58
with his holy spirit may become one body
23:00
one Spirit In Christ
23:02
may he make of us an eternal offering to
23:04
you so that we may obtain an inheritance
23:07
with your elect especially with the Most
23:09
Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God with
23:12
bless Joseph her spouse and with your
23:13
blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
23:16
and with all the Saints on Whose
23:18
constant intercession in your presence
23:20
we rely for unfailing help
23:22
and may this sacrifice of our
23:24
reconciliation we pray O Lord Advance
23:26
the peace and salvation of all the world
23:29
be pleased to confirm in faith and
23:31
charity your Pilgrim Church on Earth
23:33
with your servant Francis our Pope and
23:36
Robert our Bishop the order of Bishops
23:38
all the clergy and the entire people you
23:40
have gained for your own
23:42
and listen graciously to the prayers of
23:44
this family whom you have summoned
23:45
before you in your compassion o merciful
23:48
father gather to yourself all your
23:51
children scattered throughout the world
23:52
and to our departed brothers and sisters
23:55
and to all who were pleasing to you with
23:57
their passing from this life give kind
23:59
admittance to your kingdom there we hope
24:02
to enjoy forever the fullness of your
24:04
glory through Christ Our Lord through
24:06
whom you bestow on the world all that is
24:08
good
24:12
through him and with him and in him o
24:15
God Almighty father in the unity of the
24:17
holy spirit all glory and honor is yours
24:20
forever and ever amen
24:24
thank you
24:26
at the savior's command and formed by
24:29
Divine teaching we dare to say
24:32
Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be
24:35
thy name thy kingdom come and thy will
24:39
be done on Earth as it is in heaven give
24:42
us this day our daily bread and forgive
24:46
us our trespasses as we forgive those
24:49
who trespass against us and lead us not
24:52
into temptation but Deliver Us from Evil
24:55
Deliver Us Lord we pray from every evil
24:58
and graciously Grant peace in our days
25:00
and by the help of your mercy we may be
25:02
always free from sin and safe from all
25:04
distress as we await the Blessed hope
25:07
and the coming of Our Savior Jesus
25:09
