the Lord
5:58
in the name of the father and of the son
6:00
and of the Holy Spirit the Lord be with
6:02
you
6:03
as we come before our Lord to offer
6:05
these sacred Mysteries this evening let
6:06
us acknowledge our sins and so prepare
6:08
our hearts
6:12
I confess to almighty God and to you my
6:16
brothers and sisters that I have greatly
6:18
sinned in my thoughts and in my words
6:21
and what I have done and in what I have
6:24
failed to do through my fault through my
6:27
fault through my most Grievous fault and
6:30
therefore I ask the Blessed Mary ever
6:32
virgin all the angels and Saints and you
6:36
my brothers and sisters to pray for me
6:39
to the Lord our God and may almighty God
6:42
have mercy on us forgive us our sins and
6:45
bring us to everlasting life Lord have
6:47
mercy
6:49
Christ have mercy
6:51
Lord have mercy
6:53
let us pray
6:55
o God who consecrated the Abundant first
6:58
fruits of the Roman Church by the blood
7:00
of the martyrs Grant we pray that with
7:03
firm courage we may together draw
7:05
strength from so great a struggle and
7:07
ever Rejoice at the Triumph of faithful
7:10
love through our Lord Jesus Christ your
7:12
son who lives and reigns with you in the
7:14
unity of the Holy Spirit one God forever
7:17
and ever
7:37
a reading from The Book of Genesis
7:41
when Abram was 99 years old the Lord
7:44
appeared to him and said
7:47
I am God the Almighty
7:50
walk in my presence and be blameless
7:54
God also said to Abraham
7:58
on your part you and your descendants
8:01
after you must keep my Covenant
8:03
throughout the ages
8:05
this is my Covenant with you and your
8:08
descendants after you that you must keep
8:11
every male among you shall be
8:13
circumcised
8:15
God further said to Abraham as for your
8:19
wife Sarah I do not call her Sarai
8:23
her name shall be Sarah
8:26
I will bless her and I will give you a
8:29
son by her
8:31
him also will I bless he shall give rise
8:35
to Nations and rulers of peoples shall
8:39
issue from him
8:42
Abraham prostrated himself and laughed
8:45
as he said to himself
8:47
can a child be born to a man who is a
8:50
hundred years old
8:51
or can Sarah give birth at 90.
8:56
then Abraham said to God
9:00
but Ismail live on by your favor
9:04
God replied
9:05
nevertheless your wife Sarah is to Bear
9:09
you a son
9:10
and you shall call him Isaac
9:13
I will maintain my Covenant with him as
9:16
an everlasting Pact
9:18
to be his God and the god of his
9:21
descendants after him
9:24
as for Ishmael
9:26
I am heeding you I hereby bless him
9:30
I will make him fertile and will
9:32
multiply him exceedingly
9:36
he shall become the father of twelve
9:38
Chieftains and I will make of him a
9:42
great nation
9:44
but my Covenant I will maintain with
9:46
Isaac whom Sarah shall bear to you by
9:50
this time next year
9:52
when he had finished speaking with him
9:54
God departed from Abraham
9:58
the word of the Lord
10:03
see how the Lord blesses those who fear
10:05
Him
10:06
see how the Lord blesses those who fear
10:09
Him blessed are you who fear the lord
10:12
who walk in his ways for you shall eat
10:16
the fruit of your handiwork blessed
10:19
shall you be and favored
10:21
see how the Lord blesses those who fear
10:24
Him
10:26
your wife shall be like a fruitful Vine
10:28
in the recesses of your home
10:31
your children like Olive plants around
10:34
your table
10:35
see how the Lord blesses those who fear
10:38
Him
10:39
behold thus is the man blessed who fears
10:43
the Lord
10:44
the Lord bless you from Zion may you see
10:47
the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days
10:51
of your life
10:53
see how the Lord blesses those who fear
10:56
Him
11:12
the Lord be with you
11:15
a reading from the holy Gospel According
11:17
to Saint Matthew Lord You O Lord when
11:20
Jesus came down from the mountain great
11:22
crowds followed him and then a leper
11:24
approached did him homage and said Lord
11:27
if you wish you can make me clean he
11:30
stretched out his hand touched him and
11:32
said I do will it be made clean
11:34
his lepre leprosy was cleansed
11:37
immediately and then Jesus said to him
11:39
see that you tell no one but go show
11:42
yourself to the priest and offer the
11:44
gift that Moses prescribed that will be
11:47
proof for them
11:48
the gospel of the Lord
11:54
in theology we talk about tensions as
11:57
that kind of theological reality where
12:00
one thing that God prescribes
12:02
contradicts or seems to contradict with
12:05
another thing that God prescribes for
12:07
example if we look at our first reading
12:10
in the uh from The Book of Genesis we
12:13
have God going against the common and
12:16
ordinary wisdom first that the oldest
12:18
child should be the one that inherits
12:20
everything that's the universally
12:22
understood common wisdom God rejects
12:25
that there's the idea that in old age
12:28
New Birth cannot come the idea that
12:31
being a Bedouin and kind of being out
12:33
and about is certainly that kind of of
12:35
situation where we don't have stability
12:37
and yet the Lord is saying it's through
12:40
all of these descendomatically through
12:42
the desert also in the ancient world we
12:44
would expect that the Lord would say
12:46
look A law is what I'm going to give you
12:48
and yet the Covenant that God describes
12:50
is remarkably simple a few very very
12:53
simple things and yet God is going to
12:55
bring remarkable things through it and
12:58
then of course in the psalm we have this
12:59
kind of inversion where we would expect
13:01
the Lord would bless those who obey him
13:04
not those who are in centerpiece of what
13:07
the Lord has given the Mosaic law and
13:09
yet we have here this Psalm that kind of
13:12
says no no the Lord is going to do the
13:14
blessing not the law which of course is
13:16
something one thing and doing another
13:19
right the Lord is coming to bless the
13:22
leper the Lord heals the leper not
13:25
because it is the right thing to do not
13:28
because the leper is in a sad State not
13:31
because the leper is part of a protected
13:33
class why because I will it that's why
13:36
God says Jesus says and so that's why it
13:39
is full stop and yet rather than as soon
13:43
as that happens then Jesus looks and
13:46
says but we're going to pretend this
13:48
came through the law
13:50
and so everything in this world happens
13:52
why very very much a constant inversion
13:55
of what we might call Common Sense and
13:58
of course there are a pile of jokes from
14:00
the 50s 60s and 70s that basically all
14:03
boil down to the problem with common
14:05
sense is that no one seems to have it it
14:07
works the same way when it comes to
14:09
religious Common Sense where the Lord is
14:12
constantly inverting or flipping our
14:15
perspective on what makes sense and it's
14:18
not just in terms of these kind of
14:20
specific details we could think of the
14:22
first Martyrs of the Church of Rome that
14:24
we celebrate today why is it that the
14:27
Lord wants to spread his church by the
14:30
death of his followers that seems to us
14:34
counter-intuitive it seems to us
14:36
irrational even Saint Francis of Assisi
14:39
when Saint Anthony of Padua knocked on
14:41
the door and said I want to join up with
14:43
your religious order because I want to
14:45
be sent to Africa to be martyred Francis
14:47
said that's not a particularly good
14:49
reason to join my religion disorder I'll
14:51
be honest with you I want you to go to
14:53
heaven just like I want everybody to go
14:54
to heaven but knocking on my door saying
14:56
can you please send me to my death so I
14:58
can bypass the will of God not a good
15:01
reason to become a Franciscan and so we
15:04
could go on and on and on and on and on
15:05
but there is this underlying premise of
15:08
our entire faith that says the wisdom of
15:10
God confounds us which is why it's one
15:14
of those constant themes of my preaching
15:15
that rather than Rely Upon Our
15:18
perspective rather than rely upon our
15:21
intuition rather than rely even upon the
15:24
teaching of the church more broadly we
15:26
want to constantly go back to the Lord
15:29
again and again and again and say Lord
15:32
what do you want from me today
15:35
now if the Lord asks me something that
15:37
makes no sense at all if I hear the Lord
15:40
say something that is contrary to the
15:42
teaching of the church if I hear the
15:44
Lord say something that is contrary to
15:46
my human nature then I say hang on a
15:49
minute am I hearing the Lord rightly or
15:51
am I perhaps hearing something I should
15:53
not be hearing am I Discerning poorly
15:56
but really and truly we always have to
15:59
go back to the centerpiece of Our Gospel
16:01
today where the Lord reaches out and
16:04
heals this person why because I do will
16:07
it because but ours and so we cannot
16:10
hope to be that for the Lord unless we
16:14
go to him and say Lord what do you want
16:16
from me today not in Broad strokes but
16:19
specifically I don't need to know
16:20
everything I just need to know what you
16:23
want from me today Lord what is your
16:26
will for me immediately what do you will
16:29
so that in my life I may see you come to
16:31
me and say I do will it in the name of
16:34
the father and the son and the holy
16:35
spirit amen
16:49
blessed are you Lord God of all creation
16:52
for your goodness we have received the
16:54
bread we offer you fruit of the earth
16:56
and work of human hands it will become
16:58
for us the bread of life
17:26
foreign
17:33
blessed are you Lord God of all creation
17:36
for your goodness we have received the
17:38
wine we offer you fruit of the vine and
17:41
work of human hands Mighty and eternal
17:43
God for you are praised in the company
17:45
of your Saints and in crowning their
17:47
merits you Crown your own gifts by their
17:50
way of life you offer us an example and
17:52
by communion with them you give us
17:54
companionship by their intercession sure
17:57
support so that encouraged by so great a
18:00
cloud of witnesses we may run as Victors
18:02
in the race before us and win with them
18:05
the imperishable Crown of Glory through
18:07
Christ Our Lord and so with the Angels
18:10
and Archangels and with the great
18:11
multitude of the Saints we sing the hymn
18:14
of your praise as Without End we Acclaim
18:17
holy holy holy Lord God of hosts Heaven
18:23
and Earth are full of your glory hosanna
18:26
in the highest blessed is he who comes
18:29
in the name of the Lord hosanna in the
18:34
and you are indeed holy O Lord and all
18:36
you have created rightly gives you
18:38
praise for through your son our Lord
18:40
Jesus Christ by the power and working of
18:43
the Holy Spirit you give life to all
18:45
things and make them holy and you never
18:48
cease to gather a people to yourself
18:51
this is the rising of the sun to its
18:52
setting a pure sacrifice may be offered
18:54
to your name and therefore O Lord we
18:57
humbly implore you by The Same Spirit
18:59
graciously make holy these gifts we have
19:01
brought to you for consecration that
19:03
they may become the body and blood of
19:06
your son our Lord Jesus Christ dead
19:08
whose command we celebrate these
19:10
Mysteries
19:11
from the night he was betrayed he
19:13
himself took bread and giving you things
19:14
he said the blessing broke the bread and
19:17
gave it to his disciples saying
19:20
take this all of you and eat of it for
19:23
this is my body not for you
19:40
the mystery of faith
19:42
we Proclaim your death oh Lord and
19:45
profess your Resurrection until you come
19:48
again
19:50
therefore O Lord as we celebrate the
19:52
memorial of the saving passion of your
19:54
son his wondrous resurrection and
19:56
Ascension into heaven
19:58
as we look forward to his second coming
20:00
we offer you in Thanksgiving this holy
20:02
and Living Sacrifice
20:04
look we pray upon the oblation of your
20:06
church and recognizing the sacrificial
20:09
victim by whose death you willed to
20:11
reconcile us to yourself
20:13
grant that we who are nourished by the
20:15
body and blood of your son and filled
20:17
with this Holy Spirit may become one
20:19
body one Spirit In Christ may he make of
20:22
us an eternal offering to you so that we
20:25
may obtain an inheritance with your
20:26
elect especially with the Most Blessed
20:28
Virgin Mary Mother of God who plays
20:31
Joseph her spouse with your blessed
20:32
Apostles and glorious Martyrs and with
20:35
all the Saints on Whose constant
20:37
intercession in your presence we rely
20:39
for unfailing help
20:41
may this sacrifice of our reconciliation
20:43
we pray O Lord Advance the peace and
20:46
salvation of all the world be pleased to
20:48

21:06

21:09
trespasses as we forgive those who
21:12
trespass against us and lead us not into
21:16
temptation but Deliver Us from Evil
21:18
Deliver Us Lord we pray from every evil
21:21
and graciously Grant peace in our days
21:23
by the help of your mercy we may be
21:25
always free from sin and safe from all
21:28
distress as we await the Blessed hope
21:30
and the coming of Our Savior Jesus
21:32

21:35

21:43
your church and graciously Grant her
21:46
peace and unity in accordance with your
21:47
will who live and Reign forever and ever
21:51
the Peace of Our Lord be with you always
21:54
and let us offer to one another a sign
21:55
of that peace
22:28
Behold the Lamb of God Behold Him who
22:32
takes away the sins of the world blessed
22:35
are those who are called to the supper
22:36
of the Lamb Lord I am not worthy you
22:39

22:42
the word and my soul shall be
24:23
let us pray
24:32
oh God who in your Holy Martyrs have
24:34
wonderfully made known The Mystery of
24:36
the cross
24:37
graciously grant that drawing strength
24:39
from this sacrifice we may cling
24:41
Faithfully to Christ and labor in the
24:44
church for the Salvation of all through
24:46
Christ Our Lord
24:49
and the Lord be with you
24:51
and may almighty God bless you the
24:52
Father the Son and the Holy Spirit go in
24:56
peace
