7:27
christ have mercy lord have mercy let us pray
7:33
oh god who made saint jane francis chantal radiant with outstanding merits in different walks of life
7:40
grant us through her intercession that walking faithfully in our vocation we may constantly be examples of shining
7:47
light through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever
7:55
and ever
8:15
a reading from the book of the prophet ezekiel the word of the lord came to me
8:22
son of man make known to jerusalem her abominations thus says the lord god to jerusalem
8:30
by origin and birth you are of the land of canaan your father was an amorite and your mother a hittite
8:37
as for your birth the day you were born your naval cord was not cut
8:43
you were neither washed with water nor anointed nor were you rubbed with salt nor
8:48
swathed in swaddling clothes no one looked on you with pity or
8:53
compassion to do any of these things for you rather you were thrown out on the ground
9:00
as something loathsome the day you were born then i passed by and saw you weltering
9:07
in your blood i said to you live in your blood and grow like a plant
9:14
in the field you grew and developed you came to the age of
9:19
puberty your breasts were formed your hair had grown you were still
9:25
stark naked again i passed by you and saw that you were
9:30
now old enough for love so i spread the corner of my cloak over
9:36
you to cover your nakedness i swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you
9:42
you became mine says the lord god then i bathed you with water washed away
9:49
your blood and anointed you with oil i clothed you with an embroidered gown
9:56
put sandals of fine leather on your feet i gave you a fine linen sash and silk
10:02
robes to wear i adorned you with jewelry i put bracelets on your arms a necklace about
10:10
your neck a ring in your nose pendants in your ears and a glorious diadem upon your head
10:19
thus you were adorned with gold and silver your garments were fine linen
10:25
silk and imported cloth fine flour honey and oil
10:31
were your food you were exceedingly beautiful with the dignity of a queen
10:38
you were renowned among the nations for your beauty perfect as it was because of
10:44
my splendor which i had bestowed on you says the lord god
10:51
but you were captivated by your own beauty you used your renown to make yourself a
10:58
harlot and you lavished your harlotry on every passerby whose own
11:04
you became yet i will remember the covenant i made with you when you were a girl
11:11
and i will set up an everlasting covenant with you that you may remember
11:17
and be covered with confusion and that you may be utterly silenced for
11:22
shame when i pardon you for all you have done says the lord god
11:29
the word of the lord
11:36
you have turned from your anger turned from your anger god indeed is my
11:43
savior i am confident and unafraid my strength and my courage is the lord
11:50
and he has been my savior with joy you will draw water at the fountain of
11:55
salvation you have turned from your anger give thanks to the lord acclaim his name
12:04
among the nations make known his deeds proclaim how exalted is his name
12:11
you have turned from your anger sing praise to the lord for his glorious
12:16
achievement let this be known throughout the earth shout with exaltation o city
12:22
of zion for great in your midst is the holy one of israel
12:29
you have turned from your anger
12:46
the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to saint matthew glory to you oh lord
12:53
some pharisees approached jesus and tested him saying is it lawful for a man
12:58
to divorce his wife for any cause whatsoever and he said in reply have you not read that from the beginning the
13:05
creator made them male and female and said for this reason a man shall leave
13:10
his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh
13:16
so they are no longer two but one flesh and therefore what god has joined together man must not separate
13:24
they said to him then why did moses command that a man give the woman a bill of divorce and dismiss her and he said
13:32
to them because of the hardness of your hearts moses allowed you to divorce your wives but from the beginning it was not
13:39
so i say to you whoever divorces his wife unless the marriage is unlawful and
13:45
marries another commits adultery and his disciples said to him if that is the case of a man with his
13:51
wife is it better not to marry and he answered not all can accept this word but only those to whom that is
13:58
granted some are incapable of marriage because they were born so some because they were made so by others
14:04
some because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven whoever can accept this ought to accept
14:11
it the gospel of the lord
14:18
as we heard in our first reading there is always has been a way of thinking about
14:23
the right time for someone to leave the house and go do their thing decide to
14:28
get married become religious whatever the case might be and that's always been the way within christianity there's
14:33
generally been a window from about the time someone is marriageable to about
14:39
the time they're in their 20s or 30s that's when you go and become a nun or a priest or a brother and if you don't
14:45
make your decision in that window we love you great god's going to give you all kinds of good blessings but it's too
14:50
late to sign up for the religious orders and that was a big big deal all through the history of the church they didn't
14:57
have 40 year old novices they didn't have 50 year olds in seminaries nowadays in the last 20 years it's
15:04
become more common because of a sense of desperation religious orders have moved
15:09
back that window to older people priests are now being ordained in their 50s and 60s rather than their 20s but
15:17
generally speaking the rule was very narrow enter saint jane francis de
15:22
chantal living in rural france who said you know what i like these people who haven't
15:29
gotten their act together the people who don't know what they want until they're 50 these are my kinds of people and she
15:35
created a religious order the visitation sisters that exist exclusively to draw in people who believe they're
15:42
called to religious life but significantly later and by significant we were talking france you know 100
15:48
years ago we're talking people who are as old as 55 or 60 you believe so that
15:54
she and she actually did she opened the doors to basically anybody i mean anybody who was was able to care for
16:00
themselves physically she couldn't take in people with massive illnesses or whatever but her order had a lot of
16:06
older people in it and their primary ministry was to care for the sick
16:12
and so it was great you had you had older folks who perhaps professionals who had an experience or a sense of what
16:18
how they could live their life and what they what it took to minister to those folks and so it was great and the
16:24
visitation sisters were a gigantic benefit to the entire nation of france
16:29
and it really was a big deal unfortunately i don't think that they exist broadly anymore but she was kind
16:36
of one of these people who just liked the the uh i don't know of a nice way to say the folks that just didn't fit in or
16:42
you know where just problems happened and and bless her heart she was beloved for it it is somewhat unfortunate that
16:49
even now there are very very few orders that will accept people outside of a very very narrow window i
16:56
mean i had a couple of young women who wanted to be sisters and the the general was if you're not if you don't have a
17:02
rule if you don't have an advanced degree so you need at least a bachelor's degree and you need to be under 30 to even be
17:09
considered and so if you haven't gotten your act together between the age of 22 and 30 you're out and in india and in
17:15
places where the faith is really thriving even now if you haven't entered seminary by the time you're say 24 or 25
17:24
you're too old you're past your prime and so there is kind of room being established for
17:30
these folks who perhaps are second career so to speak uh you know religious people and there's there's room for that
17:37
and so it's kind of a fascinating story that saint james francis de chantal did something that seems like an obvious
17:43
thing to us nowadays but it was a giant big deal and of course the the devotion to her kind of continues as a reminder
17:50
that we're never past the point where the lord wants to put us to good use um you know it's not as if we haven't
17:57
gotten all of our act together at the age of 24 then we're just out of it or we're done and so jane is a wonderful
18:03
saint for us to look to and remind and be reminded that we're always being called again to the service of the lord
18:09
it's not as if you know where we've reached that age that ripe old age of 43 or 44 and that god's done with us now
18:15
it's time to just put it be put out to pasture but that there is a constancy of the call and the vocation
18:22
to holiness and so we could ask saint jane to pray for us in that regard in the name of the father and of the son
18:27
and of the holy spirit amen
18:42
blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you fruit of
18:49
the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life
19:14
blessed are you lord god of all creation for your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and
19:21
work of human hands it will become our spiritual dream
19:33
pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father
19:43
praise the lord the good of all
19:48
we bring the offerings of our devotion to be consecrated by you o lord in commemoration of blessed jane francis
19:55
de chantal for by the consolation you give us in this life you show that we
20:01
should not lose hope of what is promised for eternity through christ our lord
20:07
amen and the lord be with you lift up your hearts
20:12
and let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and
20:20
our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you are
20:27
praised in the company of your saints and in crowning their merits you crown your own gifts by their way of life you
20:33
offer us an example by communion with them you give us companionship and by their intercession sure support
20:41
so that encouraged by so great a cloud of witnesses we may run as victors in the race before us and win with them the
20:48
imperishable crown of glory through christ our lord and so with the angels and archangels with the great multitude
20:55
of the saints we sing the hymn of your praise as without end we acclaim
21:00
holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory
21:08
hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in
21:14
the highest and you are indeed holy oh lord and all
21:20
you have created rightly gives you praise through your son our lord jesus christ by the power and working of the holy
21:26
spirit you give life to all things and make them holy and you never cease to
21:32
gather a people to yourself so that from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your
21:38
name and therefore o lord we humbly implore you by the same spirit graciously make
21:43
holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration that they may become the body and blood of your son our lord
21:51
jesus christ at whose command we celebrate these mysteries from the night he was betrayed he
21:57
himself took bread and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his
22:02
disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it
22:07
for this is my body which will be given up for you
22:28
in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the
22:34
chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from for
22:40
this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for
22:46
many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me
23:09
the mystery of faith we proclaim your death oh lord and
23:15
profess your resurrection until you come again therefore lord as we celebrate the
23:21
memorial of the saving passion of your son his wondrous resurrection and ascension
23:27
into heaven and as we look forward to his second coming we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living
23:33
sacrifice look we pray upon the oblation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial
23:39
victim by whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself grant that we who are nourished by the
23:46
body and blood of your son and filled with this holy spirit may become one body one spirit in christ
23:53
may he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect especially with the most
24:00
blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs
24:07
and with all the saints on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help
24:14
and may this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray o lord advance the peace and salvation of all the world
24:20
be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth with your servant francis our pope and
24:26
robert our bishop the order of bishops all the clergy and the entire people you have gained for your own
24:33
listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you in your compassion o merciful father
24:41
gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world and to our departed brothers and sisters
24:47
and to all who were pleasing to you at their passing from this life give kind admittance to your kingdom
24:54
there we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through christ our lord through whom you bestow on the
25:00
world all that is good through and with him and in him oh god
25:08
almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours
25:13
forever and ever amen
25:19
at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say
25:25
our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come and thy will be done on
25:34
earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our
25:40
trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but
25:48
deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant
25:53
peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we
26:00

26:05
the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your
26:10
apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously
26:17
grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever
26:23
