0:00
maintenance light on your BMW and not
0:02
sure how to reset it. Whether you just
0:04
did an oil change or replace the brakes,
0:06
that reminder isn't going to clear
0:07
itself. Hey, I'm Tom from Car Justify.
0:11
I've worked on a bunch of these bimmers
0:12
over the years, and I'll show you how to
0:14
reset that service light the right way.
0:15
No tools, no scanner, just your dash
0:18
buttons. First thing, this works on most
0:21
BMW models from the mid200s and up,
0:24
especially if you've got a push start
0:25
and the iDrive screen. If yours has a
0:27
key, no problem. The steps are pretty
0:29
similar. Start by sitting at the
0:31
driver's seat, engine off, but key in or
0:34
ignition on. Press the start button
0:36
once. Don't start the engine. Just turn
0:38
the ignition on so the dash lights up.
0:41
Now, press and hold the trip reset
0:42
button, the one on the instrument
0:44
cluster. Hold it for about 5 seconds
0:46
until you see the service menu pop up on
0:48
the screen. Use the same button to
0:50
scroll through the list. You'll see
0:52
items like engine oil, brake fluid,
0:54
vehicle check. Find the one you just
0:56
serviced. Once you've got the right item
0:59
selected, press and hold the button
1:01
again until it says reset. Let go. Then
1:04
press and hold again to confirm. After a
1:06
few seconds, it'll say reset successful.
1:09
That's it. Once you reset one item, you
1:12
can scroll to the next and repeat the
1:13
process if you've done more than one
1:15
service. Now, if your BMW has the iDrive
1:19
system, you can also reset through the
1:21
screen. Go to vehicle info, then vehicle
1:24
status, and look for service
1:25
requirements. From there, it'll show you
1:27
what's due and give you reset options if
1:29
something's been completed. But here's
1:32
the catch. It only lets you reset items
1:34
that are actually due or ones the system
1:37
thinks are due. So, if you try to reset
1:39
something early, it might not let you.
1:42
If you've done everything right and the
1:43
lights still on, don't stress. It could
1:45
just be a timing issue or the service
1:47
wasn't fully recognized. Sometimes
1:49
disconnecting the battery for a few
1:51
minutes can help the system
1:54
All right, to recap, ignition on, hold
1:56
the trip button, scroll to the service
1:58
item, confirm reset. Easy stuff once
2:00
you've done it once or twice. If this
2:02
