good afternoon Prime Minister rachel
0:02
Aello CTV News uh you're two seats shy
0:04
of one but should Canadians expect you
0:07
to govern like you have a majority i
0:09
what what uh Thank you for the question
0:12
you know I we and ran a very clear
0:15
campaign on our priorities uh standing
0:17
up to the US getting the best possible
0:19
relationship uh security and economic
0:21
relationship but then at the core
0:24
building uh the strongest economy in the
0:26
G7 economy that works for everyone uh I
0:29
enumerated uh just now some of those uh
0:31
what that translates into specific
0:33
priorities you'll hear more of those
0:35
translations in the speech from the
0:36
throne but you will be able to guess
0:38
what they are uh having followed uh the
0:41
campaign and what Canadians voted for uh
0:44
I'll I'll remind uh not you you'll know
0:46
this but uh those watching we receive
0:49
more votes than anyone else uh in in uh
0:52
in any election um we um are in a
0:55
position where we have cabinet members
0:57
from all the provinces um I'm very proud
1:00
of that uh and uh and a cabinet member
1:03
from a full cabinet member from uh the
1:05
territories so we're governing for all
1:07
Canadians all regions um with a strong
1:10
and clear mandate uh that came out of
1:11
the election and that's how we will
1:13
govern thank you uh and so what does
1:15
tangible progress look like for you when
1:17
it comes to addressing cost of living
1:19
concerns in this country uh and will
1:21
there be a barometer such as public
1:23
mandate letters for Canadians to hold
1:24
you accountable to well I think the way
1:27
can Canadians will hold account by their
1:29
experience at the grocery store uh at uh
1:32
when they're paying their electricity
1:33
bill uh when they're uh when they or
1:36
their children are looking for a place
1:38
to live um so it will be their
1:40
experiences how they will hold they will
1:43
form those judgments and then of course
1:44
accountability comes at the uh at the
1:46
ballot box uh mandate letters cabinets
1:50
uh cabinet discussions uh legislation uh
1:53
regulation these are just steps to
1:55
accomplish those ultimate goals and it's
1:57
what the experience is of uh of
1:59
Canadians Canadian families that's how
2:02
uh that's how they will judge cost of
2:04
living i will say one other thing but
2:06
there are two elements to cost of living
2:08
one is the actual cost of things and the
2:10
other is are people's salaries growing
2:13
is their take-home pay increasing can
2:15
they find jobs uh readily and those last
2:18
as we have to focus on those aspects as
2:20
well we can act most quickly most
2:24
immediately with the middle class tax
2:25
cut which is as as I said in my remarks
2:28
we will act by Canada Day parliament has
2:31
to approve it we'll have to find two
2:32
extra votes uh in order to get that um
2:35
but uh we clearly campaigned on that and
2:38
uh uh and we'll put that forth but more
2:40
broadly what we need to do is build this
2:42
economy create great jobs for Canadians
2:45
at the same time costs are held under
2:47
control but it's really about jobs and
2:50
growth in incomes that will help all
2:52
Canadians get ahead next question push
2:53
and kiss
2:56
sarah Richie with the Canadian Press
2:57
given what you just said about trying to
2:59
find two extra votes in parliament what
3:01
efforts are you and your team making to
3:03
sort of more permanently find those two
3:05
extra votes from other caucuses yeah I
3:07
you know I um maybe I didn't say this
3:10
quite as explicitly but I I I will now
3:12
which is that we have we campaigned hard
3:16
we campaigned clearly we had more than
3:18
100 events we answered media questions
3:20
at all our events uh and um and and gave
3:25
a very clear platform um so we have a
3:27
strong mandate we're going to focus on
3:29
the issues that are at the core of that
3:31
mandate uh of course we'll work with uh
3:34
parliamentarians uh and we'll work with
3:36
the provinces uh to move things forward
3:38
uh but but we've been elected to do a
3:41
job uh we intend to do it quickly uh and
3:44
forcefully uh in other words we're we're
3:46
we're we have to address this crisis
3:49
with the Americans and we have to
3:51
address uh the very real challenges in
3:53
our economy and and we will we will we
3:55
will do that role Miss H next question
3:58
good afternoon Prime Minister jillian
4:00
Piper with Global News interim NDP
4:02
leader Don Davies told Global News that
4:05
your government was reaching out and
4:07
calling NDP individuals about uh trying
4:09
to poach them to join your party uh are
4:11
you trying to poach NDPMPPS to join the
4:14
Liberals look we um as as I said a
4:17
moment ago um we have a clear mandate
4:20
we'll we'll work towards that clear
4:21
mandate uh we're always interested in
4:23
working with parliamentarians from any
4:26
uh any of any of the opposition parties
4:28
uh to uh to support that support that
4:31
mandate um obviously that those
4:33
discussions will intensify as parliament
4:35
returns in uh uh in the course of the
4:38
next well it's less than two weeks um so
4:40
clear mandate focus on those speech from
4:42
the throne will be quite clear in terms
4:44
of our priorities we'll work with
4:45
parliament thank you
