will you be pursuing a formal governing
0:06
pact of any kind with the NDP no
0:09
short answer no and why not why um I
0:14
that that's my response is uh we have uh
0:17
I I we campaigned on a very clear uh set
0:20
of objectives a very clear clear
0:22
policies to back those up um and u we
0:26
received the highest number of votes in
0:28
Canadian history yes it is not quite a
0:30
majority but highest number of votes as
0:32
I said moments ago majorities in seven
0:34
of the 10 provinces seats in all the
0:37
provinces highest vote totals in and and
0:39
and uh deputy counts in a number of
0:41
those provinces um and it's also a a
0:44
style of governing as well which is in
0:47
order to do what we need to do as a
0:49
country as a country we will need to
0:52
work in partnership with all the
0:54
provinces with indigenous peoples yes
0:57
obviously by definition in parliament uh
1:00
we will need to get uh majority support
1:01
to pass legislation uh but this is
1:04
legislation that Canadians or at least
1:07
we will be putting forth legislation
1:09
that's consistent with our platform um
1:11
and consistent with the requirements of
1:14
the time and I will has you know I will
1:16
remind that it's not just words we are
1:18
in a crisis you know if you look at uh I
1:22
mean the the terrible manifestation of
1:24
that today um in uh in Ashawa for uh the
1:28
GM workers you know 2,000 GM workers and
1:31
uh I just express uh my my you know uh
1:35
deepest uh you know sympathy for them
1:37
and their families a very difficult time
1:40
um we are committed to supporting
1:43
workers all the dollars from our tariffs
1:46
going to sub uh support workers uh
1:49
fighting hard for our auto sector all
1:51
our sectors uh in these negotiations
1:53
with the Americans um and making sure
1:56
that um companies act in true
1:58
partnership as well um in in maintaining
2:01
employment and investment in Canada uh
2:03
and if not there will be consequences
2:04
for those companies thank you we will
2:06
have time for one more very fast
2:08
question katherine Lec from the National
2:09
Post okay I'll try to make it too very
2:11
fast primary that's the spirit that's
2:14
the spirit Katherine that'll get me
2:16
coming back your party picked up seats
2:18
across the country but lost a few seats
2:20
in Ontario why do you think that is and
2:22
did those seats cost you your majority
2:26
well I think arithmetically yes uh but
2:28
you could pick we could pick other uh
2:30
you know other seats that went various
2:32
ways um uh you know we'll reflect on
2:35
that i think uh what I as I said at the
2:38
top what uh I take uh as the Canadians
2:42
voted for many reasons um in different
2:44
circumstances first and foremost um what
2:47
we've been talking about most of this
2:48
time standing up to the Americans
2:50
getting the best deal for Canada that's
2:52
there relatedly a strong economy economy
2:54
that works for everyone but also uh
2:57
clearly affordability issues we had a
2:58
big focus on affordability affordability
3:00
security and safety is I that that's
3:02
what we take that's that's what we take
3:05
as uh uh maybe I should say personally I
3:08
take uh as as as the mandate that uh the
3:11
focus of this government should be on
3:13
those issues you know as you know to
3:14
govern is to choose you have to decide
3:16
where you're going to focus uh and I'm
3:17
signaling and of course there will be a
3:19
speech from the throne in subsequent uh
3:22
communications but I'm signaling clearly
3:24
uh where that focus is and can we expect
3:27
uh your cabinet to be larger than your
3:28
previous one and will France Philip
3:30
Champang remain as finance minister did
3:32
he ask you to ask that question
3:36
now we know now we know your sources
3:39
yeah um the um uh we will uh look I I
3:44
committed to an efficient uh cabinet a
3:47
focused cabinet uh cabinet with uh with
3:50
parody gender par um and uh we'll uh
3:54
we'll work towards it those final
3:55
decisions haven't been made so Mr
3:58
champang Da he he will have to
4:01
wait sorry about that thank Thank you
4:04
very Thank you very much thank you very
4:06
much thank you very I think we have to
4:08
uh respect the uh president of the uh we
4:12
but we have to respect the um if I am
4:15
truly sorry but the prime minister does
4:16
have to go
4:19
yeah of
4:22
course okay that's fine that's by
