5:48
My name is Mahesh Chand, I'm founder of C-Sharp Corner and if you are not familiar with C-Sharp
5:57
Corner, it's an online community for software developers. On C-Sharp Corner, one of the things we launched during pandemic is a live show on growth mindset
6:12
growth mindset that's the theme of and topic is for today's this talk here is growth mindset and
6:21
how successful people think they work what are their habits and how you you know I can share my
6:30
experiences my success and failures and how you can learn from the things which I it took me a
6:38
while to learn and maybe Simon if you can put the slides in you're gonna run
6:43
the slides sorry it was a little mess up with the time but some you can load
6:51
the screen so yeah growth mindset in the the reason I bring this topic growth
6:56
mindset is I was reading a book you know I would say six months ago and book is
7:01
from Carol Dweck and it is all about you know growth mindset she's the one who
7:06
coined and invented this term growth mindset and what this is actually it
7:13
helps people you know you to achieve your success and fulfill your full
7:20
potential best kind of the idea and then what I will do in today is that what I learned in past 23 years of my software industry I will share my personal experiences as well We are also going to take questions in the end of this talk
7:39
So if you have any questions, make sure you ask those questions because that's important
7:44
One of my goals of today's talk is really if you are here listening or watching, the
7:50
goal is that you should learn today. have to learn something from this otherwise you know doesn't make sense even to do all these
7:58
series and if you have any question on your mind Simon when I take a pause you can just load our
8:09
next screen yeah so why right so biggest thing um if I have to you know advise or give suggestions
8:19
or tell young people or teach them like what is the first thing you need to think about is that
8:27
and little story you know is I'll tell you and share you know during this talk but first thing
8:33
you need to ask yourself anything you do why are you doing that why even if you are a young student
8:41
and you are going for your master's degree your bachelor's degree and I know I grew up in India
8:47
where you're like oh you have to do science not art okay why we don't question in our especially
8:56
in our culture if you are from that asia region we don't question too many things questions are
9:01
like something we think is a disrespectful to our elders to our teachers to our mentors
9:08
and maybe that is something we need to change that is something we need to
9:13
not just follow things blindly because somebody said so. So to me, one thing even you are watching here and watching this thing
9:24
why are you watching me? Why are you sitting here? You are going to waste your one hour
9:29
What's the purpose of that? You have to ask that. If you don't ask, you don't question your mind again and again
9:36
It just becomes stale, right? That's not growth mindset. Growth mindset starts with kind of why
9:43
Okay. And again, I welcome back. I see some familiar faces. Yes, today's session is going to be fun. It's going to be fun. It's going to be entertaining. It's going to be interesting. And I'm going to share you everything I learned from my mistakes in last 23 years
10:02
in one hour so that should be fun but what I want you to really all of you to start thinking is right
10:10
why are you here do you have any questions do any of you have any questions and let me go back one
10:18
more thing let me ask again do you have any questions post in the comments we are going to
10:22
take a lot of questions and I'm fine if we go over one hour that's fine my goal is really to answer as
10:28
many as questions. If you're not posting questions, that means your brain is, you're not strong. Your
10:34
mind is not strong because if there's one thing in every mind is that is a question. Everybody has
10:41
questions. The difference is that who asks, who doesn't ask. Everybody has questions. Even, you
10:49
know, anything you do, anything we look at, anything we listen, anything we watch, there's always
10:54
questions right our mind our brain is filled with questions you agree with that think about it i
11:03
think you have a lot of questions if not not you at least have one or two questions you may have
11:08
questions like oh what's my t-shirt what does it say oh what's in my background right where am i
11:14
talking where where do i live whatever it is there's always a question so yeah definitely ask
11:21
questions feel free to ask questions we want to make it this as informal as i'm not a teacher i'm
11:27
not a lecturer i'm not going to show you a book and write on a day on a whiteboard okay i'm here
11:32
talking one and one and i want to make sure if i'm saying something you disagree just let me know i
11:39
want to know if i'm saying something and you disagree because i also that if i'm saying
11:45
something doesn't mean I'm right. If somebody says something, it doesn't matter who it is
11:52
Don't assume he's right or she's right. You know, they may be wrong. They're just saying what they
11:57
think. All right. So why are you here? And why should I, you know, why should you listen to my
12:08
story? Isn't that a question, right? Maybe, you know, maybe, okay. You say, okay, this guy is a
12:14
founder of C-sharp corner and maybe it should be good whatever why are you here why should you
12:19
listen to my story well I think so there's there can be some relations you know you can relate to
12:27
my story I grew up in India you know you hear these stories that all these entrepreneurs these
12:36
startup founders they start with their bio my first computer I got when I was nine years old
12:43
right? Well, guess what? My father was a farmer. I grew up in a village. My first computer I even saw was in my master's degree. So I'm sure many of you can relate to that. Not all of us are there in that region, especially, you know, if you're in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, we don't grow with computers. Maybe today's generation, if you are wealthy, you live in big cities, maybe
13:12
If you are living in remote villages, you don't grow up with computers, right
13:17
You grow up with books. And when I was growing up, I didn't even have books
13:23
So the story goes, why did I start a website, C Sharp Corner or even Mindcracker
13:29
Because when I was growing up in a village, you don't really have books
13:35
We didn't have a library. So once in a while, we'll get this one new book
13:41
And then, you know, I always had a dream when I was young that one day I was going to have my own library where it's going to have a lot of books
13:50
I definitely liked reading books. So I couldn't find any books like, you know, I would go to like a temple and read whatever religious books
14:01
You know, they have Gita, they have Bhagwat, they have all these lot of books. In our temple, they had a lot of books, old books in Sanskrit and Hindi and all so on and so forth
14:09
I'll just go and read any and then I don't know why but I also did not do what everybody was doing
14:21
I never followed what people were saying if somebody is saying do this I like why so there was some you know even though I didn't
14:37
I was not like a rebellion, I wasn't fighting anybody but I did not do what everybody was doing
14:42
So if you look at this picture here and the reason I want to tell the story is that
14:47
if you are somebody who does not have resources, who have limited resources, doesn't have a guidance
14:53
doesn have money that does not mean that you cannot be who you want to be It does not mean you cannot start your business does not mean you cannot be successful does not mean you can have your own whatever dream you have because it happened with me and I
15:13
tell you it was not even hard I you know if you make it hard sure it is hard but
15:18
it's not that hard okay so if you look at the all these icons here on this in
15:23
this slide here you will see probably 10-15 icons here if you look at the history of this out of
15:30
these three three four companies are probably the one they are successful they're still running but
15:34
most of them are like failed okay and there's a lot of companies a lot of projects i started after
15:40
2016 they're not even here they all failed okay but i learned so much from every of these companies
15:48
every of these projects every of these clients and whoever you learn so much and eventually it
15:54
gets better so but one thing you cannot give up is that you know trying new things right and that's
16:01
really we're we're talking about here is growth mindset everybody welcome to the show i see some
16:08
familiar faces uh it's glad to you you got joined you joined me today here today we are talking
16:13
about growth mindset and again goal here really is growth mindset is what is what what is growth
16:20
mindset and why do we need growth mindset do you really need it and that's where we're going to
16:26
talk on our next screen right so before i go more into growth mindset i'm going to ask you guys
16:35
question when you think of these five things look at the screen write it down if you have a pen
16:42
pencil. If you can write this down, my question to all of you is if you have these five words on
16:51
your computer right now, money, health, time, friendship, reputation, which is one of the
16:59
which is the one word you comes to you first thing in your head, in your mind, which word is
17:06
more focused than others write that down and then i'm going to ask you answer when a little later in
17:12
the end of this session is and then i'm going to you know talk more on this topic but let me again
17:21
repeat again if out of these five words out here money health time friendship reputation what is
17:28
the one word that stand out stands out for you what is one word that's you're thinking more about it
17:35
so yeah definitely you can post your comments there we are going to talk more on this
17:41
this is very important actually this is the very important question about also the the in part of the growth mindset as well as the success
17:53
and the reason we want growth mindset if you look at the book if the growth mindset is the
17:57
What's the ultimate goal? Why are we doing anything we are doing
18:04
Why are you listening to me now? Why do you go to school? Why you go to work
18:09
Why do you start a business? Why you read? Why you watch TV
18:14
What's the purpose, right? So end goal is we all trying to be successful
18:19
You agree? We all trying to be successful in some ways. And success does not mean everybody means money
18:26
does not mean fame success is different for everybody right success is you know somebody
18:31
wants to achieve certain things but end of the day it is growing it's a growth right um so
18:42
point of growth mindset is how to achieve that success faster and maybe not fail right that's
18:51
that's the point of growth mindset so if you look at the book it says you know and how to get
18:56
potential you know go reach your full potential that's also important how to reach your full
19:02
potential i don't know if you guys or girls know the story of hanuman right i know hanuman or
19:10
jamunth one of the one of the monkeys from i think it was jamunth one of the monkeys from ramayan
19:16
he had so much potential but he didn't know that somebody had to remind him
19:21
right so all these things you're learning you're going to seminar webinar listening to these people
19:28
these are kind of reminders these are there's nothing I can really do to make you do things
19:34
only I can do is you know talk to you and remind you and also share my stories what mistakes and I
19:43
made so you don't have to make those mistakes right and that's really this thing whole is all
19:48
about that as I said when I was growing up I didn't have any guidance nobody
19:54
taught me how to do things nobody taught me business finances anything even job
20:01
right my father being a farmer I we never really talked I don't know if you
20:06
live in village you're so scared of your father right you're like well you can't
20:10
really talk and even ask questions forget I mean this today's generation is
20:15
different maybe now you talk to your kids but or your dad but in most case in village if you are in
20:21
village you don't you hardly talk to your father sure your mother is always busy you know cooking
20:27
and doing other things and fields so you just grow whatever right so now i'm not saying that
20:34
if i had more guidance or i would grow maybe but maybe maybe not i don't know but that could be a
20:40
you know again that's what growth mindset comes in so think about this question i'm going to come
20:46
back to this question and your answers a little later in this uh in this session so let's talk
20:54
about a little bit about mindset and then you you also think about right when i'm saying
21:00
things just don't listen and agree with me you need to ask question remember my first slide why
21:09
like if i say this is correct you need to ask why just it may be something may be good for me
21:15
something may work for me doesn't mean it's good for you it doesn't mean it's going to work for you
21:20
and i see a lot of guys a lot of young people they they they they read these stories they read bios
21:28
they start following people like oh i want to become like this i want to become like steve jobs
21:33
I want to become like Bill Gates. I want to become like Elon Musk. No, you want to become like you
21:40
because all of us, there are about trillions of known species in this world. Okay, species
21:50
when I say species, means living things, right? Trillions of them. And I think seven trillion is
21:55
the number where we kind of see and understand, okay, these are living things, right? There is
22:01
obviously more that's how we went here's the good out of those seven trillions not two things
22:08
not two living things are same think about this for a second out of those trillions of living things
22:18
not two of them are same there difference some kind of difference right two brothers are different Two sisters are different everybody is different Even though we all grow up in a maybe one city but they all different in some way somehow they different So if we are all
22:38
different how can we be successful by following somebody else? That's not possible. I mean it may
22:44
be possible you learn from those but you still have to find your own path. We all have our own
22:52
path. He cannot follow somebody else's path and accept to become successful
22:58
It's very rare. You can become somewhat successful, but if you want to reach your full potential
23:04
you have to find your own path. In India, we say you have to create your own destiny, right
23:13
So that's one thing I want you to really think about is when you be done with this, you know
23:19
think about okay if you're doing something now let's go back to your your real life your project
23:30
your work your school you're working in a company you're given a project and your project manager
23:36
and leader whoever is you know ask you to do certain thing this way you can do but you also
23:42
make sure you ask yourself why is this the right way to do things are there more options out there
23:48
and I'm not saying you go don't do the work that's not my advice here is and you just definitely do
23:57
because you're being told and you have to follow in most cases you have to follow the guidelines
24:03
the rules the the you know your your company has to you have to follow those but you always need
24:10
to think that is this right approach yes let me think about are there better option there
24:15
if there are those better options out there you can propose you can talk about those
24:19
and it doesn't mean those are being accepted but at least you can think about at least you will
24:28
know that yeah there are more options it doesn't mean you do it or not so let's think about let's
24:32
talk about mindsets here so carol says in her book right i didn't make these terms fixed mindset
24:38
fixed mindset, growth mindset. I did not make them. She came up with these two terms that
24:44
they're two kind of she was doing a research working with children and she said there's two
24:50
kind of mindsets in children fixed mindset and growth mindset. There is a fixed mindset we all have one of these or both of these that's possible it's
25:01
not one or other it can be both. And then there's a purpose mindset that I came up with
25:08
i just added that my own that is a purpose mindset um so fixed mindset people in fixed mindset
25:17
children were always they were smart doesn't matter so mindset has nothing fixed or growth
25:22
mindset has nothing to do with being smart or not smart that's very important difference here i want
25:27
to uh let me say it again being fixed mindset fixed mindset and growth mindset has nothing to
25:34
do with how smart or not smart somebody is okay fixed mindset thinks that they have a limitation
25:43
of what they can do means their abilities their you know things to do what they can achieve
25:50
is limited and that's it and they don't want to do more than that because they think they will not
25:55
be able to do that so that's a fixed mindset growth mindset is always thinking that oh i'm
26:03
I think I can do that. They don't say, I'm going to do that
26:09
I'm able to, but they always think that. Growth mindset people think that, yeah, I think I can do that
26:17
Or at least I'm going to try it. Let's see what happens. Let's see what happens
26:22
So that's the growth mindset. When you are open to trying new things, trying different things
26:31
and this also moved to the taking the risks okay because trying new things is always a not fun it's
26:38
not fun right sometimes risky sometimes scary and sometimes it's even you know it you know it's you
26:46
can be there's a fear there right and i'll explain more on the next coming slides so that's kind of
26:52
basic difference between fixed mindset and growth mindset a fixed mindset always thinks that my
26:59
what I can do my abilities are very limited and I don't want to do more than that I don't think
27:05
not even I don't want to they're like I don't think I can even do more than that growth mindset
27:10
on the other side they're always they're open they're like yeah I think I can do more than
27:14
what I'm doing now I think I can move ahead I can try new things so as I said fixed mind thinks it
27:22
has a limited potential and it can only do certain things growth mindset on the other hand
27:29
think that can achieve anything it can try a new thing it can at least try so it's kind of open
27:35
there's no closed door right as you can see fixed mindset has this closed circle like okay this is
27:40
my limit this is my boundary and i'm done here but growth minds is like always peeking out like okay
27:46
well let me see what's out there let me go there it does not mean that smart kid if you see you
27:53
know sometimes you see in the classes that this some kids they're really smart they're sharp right
27:58
they're better than everybody else. I was not like that. I was one of the last. I was more like
28:03
okay, I'll do things. And maybe, you know, I'm like my high school and intermediate
28:08
I'm like 55% kind of student. I was never like top student
28:15
So just because somebody is smart does not mean they don't have a growth fixed mindset
28:22
There are a lot of cases where there are some students, they were super smart, not, you know
28:26
you know it applies to the education like academics as well as you know sports everything
28:33
so there were some some kids they were really smart they never got B they're always at top of
28:38
the class but what happened once in a while they moved to different school or they put in a different
28:46
system where they were not the top student after that they gave up and they their results were
28:51
really bad and perfect example is sometimes you see that there is some kid he's really good
28:58
athletic in high school and you know when he's young but when they go play pro or go to a
29:03
different level they don't perform that good they don't reach their full potential it's it's mostly
29:09
because of fixed mindset fixed mindset people when they fail and they are never failed before
29:20
or they don't know how to handle, they don't know how to deal with the situations
29:25
And that's kind of cases you will see sometimes in our lives
29:30
We have seen that. I've seen that. On the growth mindset case, even they fail, it's okay
29:36
They learn from that and move on. And that's what makes you successful longer term is any failure, you can just move on
29:45
and a person we all can have both growth mindset, fixed mindset on certain things
29:52
Okay, so mindset is not like a hardware, it's not fixed. So for example, you know, I maybe have a growth mindset in some
29:59
which interests me i but i may have fixed mindset and if you know when it comes to
30:04
i don't know cleaning my room or something i'm not sure but uh if you have any questions about this
30:11
just you know post in comments right we are going to take some questions a little later in the
30:15
session i hope you guys enjoying it you guys girls enjoying it you know i'm just uh sharing my thoughts
30:22
here um and i'm going to share continue to share my what i learned so let's go simon let's move
30:28
let's go to start so in this what I'm going to do is I have these 10 points
30:33
these I have 10 slides and these 10 points are something if
30:38
if I go back to my back days and I have these advices
30:43
this is what I would start with and this will help you
30:47
I'm not saying it will guarantee make you successful but what it will do is it will help you speed up the process of successful
30:55
successful. So if it took me say 20 years to become successful, what I want to be, I would say
31:00
oh, you want to start a company, become a millionaire. It may take you 20 years, but if
31:04
you have these 10 points, it may just cut to 10 years or five years. So these are some things
31:09
I think we all should start thinking about when trying to achieve success. So first thing
31:16
my first very important, find a mentor. And if you look at the history
31:20
most of successful people have some kind of mentor not all of them but in our
31:27
you know in our cases we believe in gurus right so a new term is mentor right now new term for
31:37
this mentor in our IT world you know in tech world we call mentor so you need to have a mentor
31:42
can have multiple mentors right but one thing you need to be careful mentors is
31:47
mentors are the people who have good intentions in your growth not their growth your growth
31:57
they are there to help and these are the people usually they're already successful they have
32:04
already achieved something in life they are not really your competition they are not really
32:08
somebody who is helping you advising you for some kind of benefits these are not investors
32:17
These are not advisors. Usually they will join your company to getting paid
32:23
These are the true, true, true people who are to truly believe in helping you
32:30
And also they can see your full potential. That's very important. A mentor is something like sometimes I see people, I see young people and I say, wow
32:41
and I'm telling you I have seen talk work with thousands of people in my life during C-sharp
32:49
corner where I these some of young guys join they talk they work I like yeah this guy can do it will
32:57
reach this high you just mentors just can see that because either they go in through that they
33:05
can relate somehow but that's our experience right so that's how you need to find a mentor somebody
33:13
who believes in you truly able to just help you without expecting anything in return and also
33:21
if you're doing bad they should be able to tell you this is wrong this is right and then that's
33:25
how they should guide you but most important part is that if you believe that somebody is your mentor
33:31
you need to trust them. I've seen the cases where people, you know, make some mentors say
33:38
can you help me? And then they don't do what they're being told, right? Because mentors
33:43
sometimes I'm not saying do it all the time. But there is a reason mentor saying you kind of have
33:47
to kind of believe in because they have experience in that. So that's something I would highly
33:55
recommend is find a mentor and you can have multiple people right it can be somebody your
34:02
uncle your dad's friend or your somebody who's successful is retired she's retired right
34:08
and just go to them reach out to them i need help in that so i'm sure you heard of this story of arjun and dronachar right you know when arjun dronachar was
34:23
teaching Arjun about how you know how to use you know his bow and arrow right. So focus is important
34:34
and focus and I'll tell you a story this is very applies to every successful people
34:41
If you look at every success any successful be like you can Steve Jobs, Bill Gates you know I
34:47
don't know Einstein everybody look at anybody who's achieved something big in their lives
34:53
they they were very focused um i was watching one video actually one indian guy and he was
35:00
showing something interesting like this what he was showing he was showing like take a pencil
35:04
right you look at pencil here and you're looking the whole room right now i'm looking at tv i'm
35:10
looking at you i'm watching you but what do you do is what about you start focusing on just tip
35:15
of this pan you start focusing on that right when you're looking at this tip of the pan everything
35:21
fades away you don't see room I don't even see the screen all I'm seeing is this
35:26
that's what focus is and focus is the the one of the most important thing you would need to become
35:36
successful and when you are focused what happens that your full energy your entire 100% of your
35:43
mind your body everything start working towards one-in-one go okay and that's the fastest way
35:51
can reach is you know what is the fastest way to reach from if you have a car what is the fastest
35:57
way to reach from 1.8 to point v you drive in a straight line drive it the fastest possible i'm
36:06
not saying you drive and have an accident i'm just saying you drive the fastest whatever the speed is
36:12
and that's the fastest way you can reach to your goal it's the same thing no different but
36:21
There's a difficulty here, right? We are all human. We all are, you know, human social eminem
36:26
We also look around. We look at like, okay, am I missing out something
36:32
So if you are focused and you're focused on your target, you're just going to forget about everything like social life
36:41
And, you know, people say Elon Musk is whatever. People call all success people crazy
36:46
but because people don't know that's what they know right that's what they know they will tell
36:53
you because they just know that if you are focused on your work you know i've seen a lot of startups
37:00
guys they are working on their startup they're working on their idea and it's not working for
37:05
two years three years takes time to get it successful right where people can people can
37:10
think this successful everybody's going to tell you your parents are going to start telling that
37:14
Oh, you're wasting your time. Oh, you don't have a good job. Oh, your company is too small
37:19
Oh you not even married Oh you don have a house Oh you don have a car What kind of car So all those questions people will start questioning you It doesn mean that you need to listen to them right If you really want to achieve something you really want to be
37:37
you have to be focused and you will be all alone there. That's the thing. That's the thing
37:42
If you look at every successful people, they're most of the time they're all alone
37:47
in the, when they are building something. Maybe they are later in life, but in most cases they
37:53
all alone. Why? Because they move too fast. They focus too much. In their focus
38:01
they don't look surrounding. They don't look at surrounding. They don't, you know, they're not just
38:05
imagine you are going to a, let's say, I don't know, somewhere far. Let's say you drive from home to
38:11
Taj Mahal. That's six hours away or you go to West Nodavey. That's in India. It's a temple far away
38:18
So you can either go drive non-stop there, you will be tired and you know your back will
38:24
hurt and so on and so forth but you will reach fastest. Other option is you can stop by and drink some tea, eat some paratha, do all enjoy and
38:33
all that. You will take it slow and chances are you may not even reach there
38:37
So the same principle applies here. It's hard obviously, yeah going direct without food and all that's hard but that's how it is
38:47
question is how much do you want right so look at number tip number three this is the most important
38:57
tip i think i have and i learned from my personal life and this is exactly what the machine of
39:04
success is right here on this screen okay i know any most of you guys if you are in computer science
39:11
you know how computer works there's input there processor there output right and there's hard drive
39:17
storage so what happens is what we become is it's very important what our input we take
39:26
input is coming from people you're listening to people you're reading all those things and then
39:34
what do you press processing that and then that's how you create some results and I'll tell you a
39:40
story, right? One day my neighbor comes to me. It's a true story. He said Mahesh, I don't like you
39:49
I was like, okay, great. Mr. Neighbor, I'm not going to say his name. Mr. Neighbor, you don't
39:55
like me. Great. Awesome. But do you pay my bills? He's like, no. Do you mow my grass? Like, no
40:02
Do you feed my kids? Like, no. Do you clean my car? Like, no. Then I was like, so why do I care
40:10
you like me or not. I'm not in a liking business. I don't care if you like me or not. If I have
40:17
nothing to do with you, you're not adding anything to my life. Why do I care if you like me or not
40:28
The end. So think about it. If people are telling you certain things and they don't add value to
40:35
your life they are not your related they are they're not your parents they are not somebody
40:40
you want to make you have to keep them happy or you kind of you know have some kind of emotional
40:47
attached to them why do you care you need to stop caring about things because more you care
40:56
more garbage you're going to process in your brain more frustrated you will get less output and also
41:03
garbage output you're going to generate so you're not really reaching your full potential so it's
41:09
very important to filter out the input it's very important to filter out the input what you
41:16
look into what you read what you listen it's very important that's why it's always important to have
41:23
a good company so if you are trying to build a startup your own try to hang out with people who
41:29
have done startup or they're doing startup because chances are that's where you're going to get the
41:34
input you really need to become your startup successful. If you are trying to become a software
41:39
engineer try to start hanging out with people network with people who have done that or who
41:44
are doing it. That makes sense you guys agree disagree you can keep coming these comments we
41:51
are going to take some comments too as in as well. If you have similar experiences please share you
41:56
know I want to learn more about if you have you know I'm I'm growth mindset I want to learn more
42:02
so if you guys have similar feedback comments share in the share in the comments um
42:11
so this is another important slide is your who's competition right we look around we look at the
42:16
you know you know I'm from India you know me so everybody your parents are gonna ask you like oh
42:21
you've been working for 20 years 15 years you don't have a home what kind of car you drive all
42:27
that so because we look at oh your friend they have house they so we start competing with um
42:33
competing people you look we look around at social media oh he's doing this he's doing that
42:39
and so on so forth but end of the day who is your competition growth mindset world
42:46
who are you competing against? You know, we cannot compete with somebody
42:53
who is on different level. You know, you cannot look and be depressed about it
42:56
We cannot be upset about it. So you have to look, ask yourself
43:04
like, are you every day getting better at things? Are you improving
43:09
Are you growing? Whatever you do, right? If you are in the IT field
43:13
are you learning something new? Are you getting new skills? So you got to compete with yourself, not with anybody else
43:21
You need to ask yourself, am I better myself yesterday and today
43:26
So are you better after watching this webinar today compared to yesterday
43:32
Did you learn something today? So it comes to learning again. Did you learn anything more today
43:38
If you keep learning, definitely you're getting better. Because learning also means you're going to take some actions
43:44
Action is going to generate some results. End of the day, that's where you want to be
43:54
This is very important, right? Results demand sex defies. So, depends on what you want in life
44:03
You have to work for it. It's not going to come to you. People want to become rich, but they don't want to work hard
44:10
People want to become, you know, they want to get six-pack, but they don't want to go to gym or they don't want to stop eating rascullage and all these sweets, right
44:18
I want to eat some right now. I'm hungry. This is making me hungry. This life making me hungry
44:24
But you cannot have both. That's the reality. You cannot have both
44:29
You cannot be eating all this food and also expect your body to be like that
44:34
It doesn't work this way. You cannot expect to have a successful company
44:39
and also enjoy life and going to movies and hanging out with friends
44:43
this is not how it works that's the reality you cannot have everything in
44:48
life this how this is how it is in the best especially when you're starting out
44:54
once you successful then you can go and give up some parts and do focus on other parts But if you trying to become successful trying to you know build something your own or trying to even let say even move ahead in your career something has to be given
45:11
You know, you cannot have it all. You have to focus on certain things and give up on certain things
45:16
so this is also from my experience so many years of experience and I hear all the time people
45:28
complain they complain all they do is complain right we all do I do complain I'm sure you have
45:34
done complaints complaints about boss complain about your company complain about your job
45:38
complain about your car complain about your traffic all that's what we do right why do we do that
45:45
what are we getting out of that? So our, you know, I'm not going to go into too much into mind and brain
45:53
how it works and how it processes, but because that's just a longer topic and that's my topic of my interest
46:00
which I can go forever. But you got to think about our, not only just brain
46:07
but whole body and brain. Our brain is very smart. It is designed to basically help us not only survive but also feel good, okay, in general, right
46:23
So, for example, if you do something wrong, okay, your brain will tell you, it's okay
46:31
For example, one day you woke up late and you want to sleep more because you're tired
46:37
your brain say and I sleep a little more yeah it's okay you know we were just
46:42
tired right if you want to go to gym one day you know like yeah you know what
46:51
today I'm tired maybe I'll take a break but same mind if you tell him a few
46:57
times like stop you're gonna start yelling and you say no I'm gonna do that
47:03
it's going to go on the other side so when we complain about things more and more complain we
47:09
become victim of ourselves okay about job for example oh i'm not getting increment oh i'm not
47:15
getting good project oh my boss sucks oh this isn't that point is that everything depends on
47:23
you you can do whatever you want if you don't like your boss change boss if you don't like your
47:28
company change company you don't like your project try to change project it's all on you
47:33
more complain you do you're just wasting your time so stop complaining i just don't like people who
47:39
complain also it's just not grow it's just not a point of growth mindset they're just making excuses
47:45
so think about it what i'm saying here if you ever complain listen the world is open to all of us
47:51
there's so many jobs so many companies so many opportunities out there if they're there people
47:57
who are trying hard, they're working hard, they just go and find them and they become successful
48:04
That's really the big difference between successful and not successful people is the one
48:08
they're going out, working hard and keep going even though fail. That's the biggest difference
48:13
If I have to say one difference, obviously a lot of other things are part of it, but that's one of
48:20
that. Failure is a lesson learned and I truly believe in that. All of if you look at these
48:29
screens you have Steve Jobs, you have Lincoln, Bill Gates, Harrison Ford, Michael Jordan
48:37
you know look at all these guys even you know I'll give you this you know Lincoln he failed 27
48:43
times. He never won any election before he won the presidential election
48:52
He kept trying it. He believed in it. Michael Jordan wasn't selected
48:57
even in high school varsity team. So, if just because you failed, it doesn't mean
49:03
that you cannot achieve what you want to achieve. You just continue
49:07
doing it and get better at it. Keep doing it. But the difference is
49:11
you have to like it. You have to believe in it. You have to be passionate about it. Okay
49:16
I see all the time I work with a startup. I'm an advisor, a startup advisor
49:20
I advise probably 50 startups so far in my life. Out of 50, 48 startup founders, they just, they're not there
49:31
They're not focused. They are just, they give up early or they just not passionate about it
49:39
They just run as a hobby. they think like this is going to because this their idea because they build a product it's
49:44
going to be successful no it does not work that you have to just keep trying it keep going at the
49:50
full speed and focused uh growth lifts so comfort zone is that's another big big big big in my list
50:01
is worst thing you want to live is in a comfort zone if you want to grow i'm not saying if you
50:08
So listen, if you think you have achieved everything in your life, you are happy
50:13
That's great. No questions asked. If somebody wants to grow, they should not be living in comfort zone
50:22
And the next border to comfort zone is fear. The reason people live in comfort zone is because of fear
50:34
Fear of failure, right? Fear of going out there. And then once you pass the fear, then you go to this learning zone and start learning new things
50:44
So simplest way to get out of this comfort zone is start learning new things and eventually you will reach to the growth
50:54
So stop living in comfort zone. Start taking risks. Start trying new things. Okay
51:01
Just even in a company you work, your project you work. I know people complain like oh my company gave me so much work, my boss
51:12
But that's the best thing you can do especially if you're young guys
51:17
If you're starting your career, if you are a student, you just graduated
51:24
I'm not talking about somebody who's 15, 20 years experience because they are in different stage of life
51:29
but if you are a student and you are young you want to work for a company that gives you so much
51:35
work that you cannot handle it I'm telling you that's the best thing you can do to yourself
51:40
don't go to a company where they don't give you enough work try to join a company where they give
51:46
a different kind of work you learn different things you've been thrown out in the fire because what it will do is it will make your brain and mind strong you will become strong in habit it
51:58
will have a hard working habit long term it's gonna help you so much
52:07
Then next one is don't burn bridges. This I have done many times when I was
52:13
working you know young I didn't know so you don't like your boss you fight and
52:17
you find a new job you like hey I'm going to a different company oh I'm
52:21
getting paid more. In IT technology if you are in IT field even though you are leaving a company I highly highly highly recommend that leave on good terms
52:36
Be honest, truthful, tell them I found a new job. I think this job is better for me
52:40
I'm going to leave. Oh, by the way, there's a one month period. I will be let me know what else I can help you before I leave
52:47
I want to make sure I transition this work to next one
52:52
So the project doesn't, there's no impact on project or doesn't have any, you know, delays or anything
52:59
You want to be in those terms. That's how you want to be. So if I can go back, I would go back and fix all these things because we always end up working together, meeting
53:11
Society is a small world. We are all connected. So don't burn any bridges anywhere
53:17
and the last thing is networking the networking tops it all so networking is if you are in it
53:25
networking is the the most important thing you want to meet more people you want to build
53:31
relationships this is where you are going to grow more than anything else i have seen this again and
53:37
again and again once i start going out to start meeting out i grew from being a developer to a
53:43
business leader that's the way to do it all right guys i hope this uh this these are my life learning
53:51
you know i learned all these tips from my whatever 23 years of life and if there are some questions
53:57
let's take some questions you guys have any feedback comments feel free to post that
54:02
let's take some questions and simon you guys can jump in here as well yeah yeah simon you learned
54:11
something. Yeah, that was amazing slides. I mean, I didn't see that in the other live shows and I'm
54:16
like, why didn't we have all those slides? This is special for Nepal. Okay. This is not for you guys
54:23
This is, I built this especially last night. Last night I sat down and I work on something different
54:31
Yeah, I really loved it. There we have Jay. Hey Jay, how are you? Nice meeting you
54:36
I'm fine. I'm fine, Moistar. How are you? Good, good. Hopefully, you know, you learned something. I shared my experience
54:44
Yeah, it was an indeed session. So lots of your session means lots of your experience which you have
54:51
got from your failure from the success. So that was remarkable, sir
54:57
What? Yeah, we have learned many different things. Well, I'm glad. I'm glad I'm able to help anything
55:03
all right so we do have many questions um first uh let's take few of them right there's one from
55:10
sabu giri she says what are interviews looking for when hiring for it roles okay so that's a
55:17
great question right um and i have actually one says and i should do it again how to ace your
55:22
interview not technically obviously they're looking for technical skills but they look for
55:27
more than just you know they're looking for depending on the company depending who's interviewing
55:32
you right I've seen some some companies don't care they just want to be technical if that's the
55:37
case then there's nothing you can do really it's just it's all technical how you have to be just
55:41
but one thing I can tell you is that is obviously they're looking for communication is the biggest
55:49
skill these days if I have to say one skill you need to always improve and build is communications
55:55
it's reading writing speaking all of those uh that's the biggest thing if if i had a good
56:02
communication skills trust me i would be building not just c sharp corner it will be something big
56:06
and then yeah and how and ask questions in interview seriously don't be shy just be asked
56:14
any questions you have about the company they these days you know companies wants to know that
56:20
you can think independently you're not just following rules you just also can make your
56:24
decisions and anything i just talked in this uh this growth mindset show all right all right so
56:31
thanks for your questions we have other one coming from uh rough sanul if i say it right
56:37
he says i'm doing two jobs to earn money so that i'm able to invest in my company
56:42
do you think this approach of collecting investment is okay uh if you're looking for investor uh uh no
56:50
So depending on, I think depending on your very stage, you are in your startup
56:56
So I'm assuming you have your startup and then you are doing two jobs and making, putting money in your company and building it
57:03
In the beginning, yes, it's a good idea because investors now can see that you are vested in your company
57:10
You believe in your idea because you are not only investing your time, but you're also investing your money
57:15
So yes, but at some point, they want to see you full time on this
57:21
They want to see you. This I get all the time. They want to see you leave everything and focused on this
57:29
Because if you're not focused on this, it will be hard to make this successful
57:34
And that's the challenge. And you're not alone. A lot of startup founders are in the same boat
57:38
They have a job. So they make enough money to pay their bills. And also they build on their idea
57:44
they have this idea but this becomes more like a hobby because this will be hard to make it
57:51
successful at this so if you want to go to investor you're probably going to say listen i'm ready to
57:55
leave my job and that's really i need this investment because i can't really build this fast
58:01
enough okay all right that makes sense so we have many many more i'll just take one more because we
58:08
are running a lot of time uh there's one question from he is asking that what areas
58:14
are needed to focus on an IT service company on marketing and sales wise because someone if it
58:19
wants to move into sales and marketing for an IT company maybe uh what skills you should focus
58:26
IT service company on marketing and sales wise well I mean I don't I don't know this question
58:33
is clear or not yeah I don't know but looks like if you are you want to become a marketing sales I
58:39
I think company needs to fall. Yeah, I don't know this question
58:46
We know this. I'm confused. Yeah. Yeah. Can I add one question? Yeah
58:52
You can add as many. Yes. Yes. So today, most of the company is doing the remote work
58:59
remote work, right? So how do you, how do you mean, so just for the upcoming guy is to work for the better
59:07
Because working from home means remote work is not as same as the physical work going to the office
59:14
So what is your solution for that? This is a great question
59:18
This is a very good question because remote work is good for some people
59:22
It's not for everybody. People can network. They cannot learn. They cannot do a lot of things
59:29
So if you are somebody who is working from home and how do you also want to grow
59:33
So first of all, obviously you have to discipline yourself from working from home
59:38
And I think I have an article written 10 tips on C-sharp corner
59:42
how to be productive when working from home. I also have a session on that as well
59:49
Simon, you should probably remember that. So that's probably best way because I can tell right now
59:56
but yeah, being productive is very first thing you discipline yourself right you have to make sure you have a to-do list and stick to that you know
1:00:06
we have families around us so there's distractions as well so you need to find a place where you
1:00:11
nobody can disturb you and schedule the time so what happens see our mind is like a clock our brain
1:00:19
is like a clock right there's reminders in there there's settings so if you're doing same work same
1:00:25
time like nine to three I'm going to sit here and work your brain is start recognizing that oh it's
1:00:30
time to go to work so you have to stick to that routine as well that helps so and then Simon can
1:00:36
probably share that that link somewhere that has all the how to be productive from home that's
1:00:42
number one number two now you want to grow you cannot really grow if you don't network and meet
1:00:48
people right so while this remote work is happening maybe you want to do more like a virtual meetings
1:00:53
You want to hang out with friends and even though networking you're doing, unless you call three friends, try to do on a video call and make it look like you're doing in person until in person starts
1:01:05
I hope this answers your question. But yeah, this will continue, but remote is going to continue
1:01:12
So we have to be kind of prepared and definitely do a lot of exercise, definitely do stretching, a lot of that
1:01:18
Make that as a part of routine. Take breaks, right? Take breaks. don't just sit straight four hours
1:01:24
Do like one hour, one and a half hour, take 15 minutes break. If you have any call you don have to be in a video walk and take a call A lot of people are doing that yeah yeah so i did drop the link in the comments that says 10 tips to be productive when working
1:01:40
at home i just did drop that um so definitely go and check that out i think that would be helpful
1:01:47
so people did really love your session um says thank you sir uh people really love your slides
1:01:55
I was looking in the comments. So the pictures were great. So I think we'll be reaching towards the end of the session
1:02:03
Jai, Mahesh, any final things you would like to add before we wrap it up
1:02:08
No, all good. Listen, just getting going out there, follow your passion
1:02:13
Don't worry about what people say. Do not worry about what people say about you
1:02:18
You're not in a business of making people happy. Salespeople do that. Okay
1:02:23
if they're trying to sell something you're not trying to sell anything so if people are not
1:02:29
happy with you they complain hey what are you doing wrong it's okay just follow your dream
1:02:33
follow your passion find people they are your mentor they can guide you and help you and rest
1:02:39
don't worry about it all right all right thank you all right thank you all thank you thank you
1:02:47
thank you much thank you for your time we really appreciate it uh have a nice day thank you all
1:02:52
All right, guys. Thank you. Bye. All right, Jess, that was amazing session. Right
1:02:57
So what's next? So we have some disturbance with our master of ceremony So besides that we can still add her if she not speaking
1:03:14
Okay, that's fine. So we can wrap the session. So moreover, yes, she's on
1:03:22
She can't hear us, but still we can go ahead and speak, right? Yes, sure
1:03:26
So can you give a thank notes for the Takeover in Nepal and CSAC for that
1:03:34
Me? Yeah, I mean, I really appreciate for all that you guys and girls have been doing in Asia Pacific Pacific region
1:03:41
And I have been looking at your Facebook page and YouTube. You have built an amazing community there
1:03:47
You have invited some really amazing speakers from across the globe. and I coming from full time from the community
1:03:53
I do understand and I know that it takes a lot of effort to invite people, get things done, right
1:04:00
And all these events, so there's a lot of hard work that goes behind the scenes
1:04:05
