Curious Saddleback Clownfish Inspects Diver in Lembeh Strait
Sep 1, 2026
While scuba diving in Lembeh Strait, Indonesia, I had this encounter with a saddleback clownfish (Amphiprion polymnus), also known as the yellowfin anemonefish, which is shown interacting with me by swimming up and around my face repeatedly and also checking out my camera. Anemonefish tend to be very territorial and can be aggressive if protecting their anemone homes, especially when eggs are involved. I have been bitten many times while taking photos of them.
