**Ingredients:**

- 1/2 cup hot water
**Instructions:**

2. **Mix dry ingredients:** In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
3. **Cream butter and sugar:** In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then mix in the molasses.
4. **Combine:** Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the hot water, mixing until just combined.
