VLOG: Go Backstage At INTO THE WOODS With Kennedy Kennedy Kanagawa - Episode 3

What's up everybody? My name is Kennedy Kanagawa. I play Milky White and Into the Woods on Broadway

And this is my third and final vlog bringing you behind the scenes at the St. James Theater

Today is Sunday. We have a matinee. It's our last show of the week, and we are going to go out with a bang

Let's hit over to the theater now, and I'll give you guys a backstage tour, highlighting all of the amazing set pieces and props that we use to bring the show to life

Here's a little peek at our stage. This is where our beautiful

beautiful orchestra plays. I love that we have them right on stage so that the audience can

really take in all of the incredible work that they're doing and appreciate them properly

You can see up there are the trees that come in at the beginning of the show and the little

spots where they land in the pit. I can't imagine what that's like for people in the orchestra

and everyone see what a back of one of the houses looks like

There it is with all its wires. And our beautiful house. This is what it looks like every night when we start the show and look out

This is exactly where I stand. And it is the most special moment

that I've ever experienced in my life. These are our stage left props

We've got the stepsisters glasses, salt for the wolf we have Cinderella shoe a piece of the cloak her switch blade the gold pieces

Jack's mother's fan, some fake pastries. The baby. And this is where we dump stuff when we're in a hurry after getting off stage

We've got fairy godmother's flowers, various canes and staves. stabs and of course our good friend milky who likes to chill over here with the

witch's hand and some of the birds coming stage right we have the single bird up top

and this is a duplicate of Cinderella shoe with the heel shaped so it's easier to get

into the cow's mouth. We have the shears that the witch cuts Rapunzel's hair with

the knife to cut open the wolf's stomach, a little bit of cough that's in the wolf's mouth

The other knife that cuts off the step-sister's heel and toe, the witch's goblet

and some more birds over here. We can't forget the hen with the golden egg inside

What is your favorite blooper that's having so far? Blooper? Yeah. Every time I'm on stage with Sarah Borrellas

I don't think I've ever gotten all the way through without giggling. My favorite blooper was during one of the giant scenes

the audio, instead of it just being overtones, it became a very deep face

And Andy Golden the sweetest human being in the world was talker down here It was the best day Uh I don bloop Me ripping my pants three times in one day

Twice during the matinee, once at night. And back here, we've got the other witch's hand for stage right

The giant's feet. Granny's bed. Rapunzel's tower. The fake cow. And Jack's harp

As you can see, it is a tight fit. tight fit on this side of the stage, but our awesome crew makes it work every night

And yes, Milky does have her personal stable on this side of the stage as well

Make sure she's nice and comfortable. Another cool thing that we have on both sides of the stage are these little changing booths

for all of the quick changes. This is a little peek into the one stage right

It's nice because it's well lit. Hi! even though it's dark backstage, the light really doesn't escape from here, so it's nice and bright so that our dressers can see what they're doing

And, yeah, this is where Gavin changes from the wolf into the prince

This is where Cinderella goes. Pippa goes from her peasant close to her gown and back again

This is where all the magic happens. All right, here is where stage managers

call the show from. They have this lovely little chair here and three monitors and all

these I don't even know what all these switches do but they're very fancy they've got their microphone set up and their script to follow the show for all the cues and we've

got three different screens we've got this screen which shows what's happening

on stage we have this screen which typically it shows the conductor so it facing the audience the conductor not there now obviously but so they can see him and this is another shot of the

stage but it's in infrared so that even when there's a blackout the stage manager

is able to see everything that's on the stage which is pretty cool something

that I'm very grateful for is that there are sleeves on either side of the stage

where we are able to keep all of our masks for COVID safety

and water bottles so that we can be nice and hydrated. We have our little lending library here

where people can just grab books and give books and trade books

our watercolors on all over the theater. This is cool. I have no idea what it is or how it works

but it's a wig oven. So I don't know why wigs be an oven if anything

be the oven if anyone wants to tell me, but I think that's pretty cool

What is your favorite blooper to have happened so far in the run

Oh, that's easy. That was when Nancy was cutting off Tanika's heel, and the blob bounced

and landed on my toes. And it was supposed to be like a wall between us, so it shattered the

convention that we were in two separate rooms, which was already hilarious, and it landed on my

toes, and I got the giggles, and the audience started laughing, and I started laughing, and I started laughing

And Nancy stabbed the heel, which the blah with clay, and just drew it up my body and brandished it

Like, I was cross-eyed. It was right there like that. And we laughed. The audience roared for like 40 seconds

It was like Carol Burnett. It was great. Well, it's the last midnight, and that is the end of our third and final vlog together
