We've been waiting for this. Yeah, we're having a terrible time. This is awful
0:03
This is the worst time I've ever had in a show is work. Hello
0:10
I'm Richard Ridge for Broadway World. The Kennedy Center's Broadway center stage is presenting one of the most beloved musicals of all time guys and
0:18
dolls for 10 performances only from October 7th through the 16th. And we drop by the rehearsal room to bring you a sneak peek and
0:25
to meet the star studded company. Bye. Cows
0:47
and chickens are built. This
0:56
was the first time I ever came to a rehearsal. I'm always nervous about a show always. And I am nervous about this one because
1:01
because you know, you get nervous because you wanna do a good job. But as far as nervous about knowing the songs
1:05
I was not nervous. I have known, I have had guys and dolls, the music memorized since I was like 12 years old
1:12
So I walked in, they were like, you want, so do you need the lyrics? I was like, no, II, I know this
1:15
this, this, this is fine. So being to getting to hear this music all the time
1:20
Has been wonderful. And also to get, I'm not gonna lie. This is my girl but to get to sing
1:25
Sue me with this one has been nothing but an honor and a joy
1:28
I have the best time every time we do that scene. So I can't wait until we have the costumes and the lights and all
1:34
that kind of stuff. It's gonna be great. We're having a great time because it's a perfect uh piece of writing
1:38
And so all you have to do is learn it. You don't have to fix it. And that, that the relief in that is so
1:42
real. You know, you just learn it and that's like new, I think for both of us a little bit
1:46
Yeah. Yeah. And, and in the, in the 7 to 10 days that we have to work on it, you know, we really just can't
1:50
get in our own way. We just have to say like, sure. Yeah, just have to go, go for it
1:54
Let's try our best. And, you know, sometimes that's where the most magical things happen
1:59
Well, I feel like I'm at Broadway Fantasy Camp or something because I get to see all these dancers and singers and just kind of
2:06
marvel at them. And I remember like, oh yeah, I'm in the scene now, you know
2:10
that kind of thing these actors are because it's such a short gig
2:14
You get really cream of the crop people and Jesse, I've always wanted to work with Jesse
2:19
I've been a huge fan and Steve and Pippa and I mean
2:23
everyone is just amazing in the cast. It's really high. The highest caliber of group I've worked in
2:28
in a long time lot
2:45
Well, it just seemed like such a funny idea that I had to say yes. Like
2:49
even though I just came off of the Potus thing and the schedule, I mean
2:52
this is a short little run. So I was, it was ok. But then I just was like
2:57
oh, when else will this chance come? And it kind of reminds you like doing an improv
3:01
I've seen like, yes, I could walk into an improv scene and be the big gangster that everyone's scared of
3:05
But in but in the real theater probably not. So it's just, it's such a opposite energy of what I usually get to play
3:11
So it's fun seeing all these big guys, you know, recoil in fear for me
3:15
So that's fun. These two characters are iconic but they leave enough room for us to put our interpretation on it
3:22
And it's also fun to play them because they're just such a loving couple and just watching them be in love and just watching them
3:31
chase each other the entire show. They're loving dysfunction. I think it's very relatable
3:36
You know, I was about to say, I think there are many couples out there are gonna see and go oh my God. Yes
3:40
This totally makes sense. We, we're the Nathan and Athlete of the
3:44
of our lives. It's lovely. It's like, you know, there's the lyrics are so beautiful
3:49
These tunes are so gorgeous and these are like original soprano keys. These are like Barbara Cook Keys
3:54
So people who think they know Pippa as this like Broadway belter. Like, it's not that at all
3:58
It's very like old school silver soprano ingenue. What a pleasant surprise to hear that from somebody we think we know as an artist
4:07
you know, sometimes we're singing together and, you know, we rehearsing and then all of a sudden we'll finish the song and then I'll just
4:12
look at Steve and like, oh my gosh, I can't believe we're married just singing in my face so beautifully
4:19
What are you looking forward to the most about being at the Kennedy Center in this show
4:24
Oh, wow. Um, hopefully just remembering all my, my steps. Um, no
4:31
they've, they've dumbed down my steps so I only have to go like this and so hopefully I'll remember when to do that
4:37
Um, but it's, it's with a group and then when they're doing all those steps, like you can stand off to the side and I'm
4:42
like, great. Thank you. I'm very pleased with that decision. Yeah
