Up next for New York's City Center's encores is Mori Yeston and Peter Stone's epic musical Titanic

which will run from June 11th through the 23rd, and we drop by the rehearsal room to meet the company and bring you a sneak peek

and everyone I'm never back. You know, marry to the girls

May you're telling me your blanket ass. You know what? You know what

As I get further and further into rehearsal and really am diving into the score and the book

I'm just marveling at the genius of it. I feel like this is a perfect musical

I feel like young musical theater writers should really study this for its economy and its sort of Shakespearean grandeur

I keep saying this, but I feel like you don't even need a set

Everything is in the words, in the, you know, every character attribute, every location is in either the lyrics or in the book

So I find it extremely impressive. like, yeah. Yeah, and this was the first Broadway musical I ever saw

So it has an incredible amount of nostalgia for me So even as soon as the overture starts I always am just kind of like swept back into it And like that trip to New York is what made me want to work in the theater

So this musical is a huge part of that. I saw this show originally, and I had a lot of friends in it at the time

and I'm glad it's being seen again. And for me, you know, I've done such, I've had such great opportunities the last couple of years

and this is one of them. To be in this show that I've always loved

and I'm just looking forward to it. I hope I know my lines, some of them

What day is this for rehearsal? Oh, God. Eight. This is day eight

The beginning of day eight. What's made this, as your eyes go like

wow, it's day eight, we'll have a few more to go. What's made this so special for both of you

with being a part of Titanic? I mean, I love the, The score itself is so incredible

It's something special. A fun little thing is I get to do the Victoria Clark role

That's a fun thing. And also, Drew and I have known each other for years. So I love that we've never gotten to work together

I know. We've been friends for ages and ages and ages. It's the first time that we've ever gotten to play scenes together

which it's amazing when you can just easily fall into something like that that works perfectly

This is also like the first cast album I ever bought with my own money. So it's like 27 years later to get

to finally sing this music on stage with the best singers on Broadway

is, I can't even talk about it. The three of you working together

and how amazing is this? It's the first time we've ever done a show together. We've sung together before in concerts and stuff

but this is the first show. And it's really special. And it happened kind of last minute

because I just had a baby. And so I kind of stepped into the production

literally two weeks ago. And yeah, we're really excited to be here

Yeah, I, you know, I say this often, but my cheeks are really sore from smiling

Really, because I'm just so happy. I just can't even explain. There no way to there no words for this kind of a feeling There really isn The nochus is the closest It so cool I having a lot of fun

It's the best. When I saw the cast, it's a no-brainer to be part of it

and working with Annie Kaufman. And I do love what encores do

And as you say, look at all this excitement. The amount of messages I'm getting from, I always say

the barometer is like when mates text you, and I'm like, oh, you're taking a

notice, this is a good thing. You know? You know, I did Grand Hotel here

So, like, I, Mori is just, he's cream of the crop. It's just like

there really is no one better at capturing the moment to moment

of the worlds that he is putting together. He builds a world that, like

just sweeps you up and, like, takes you on the ride. I want to be a lady's maid

Ladies made in a man. In America, in America, the streets are paved with gold

I want to be a governess, governess in America. In America, it's better I am told

We're actually digging into the real lives of the people on the ship

and Mori just did such a great job with this show. It's some of the most brilliant composing that I've ever heard

And it's really catchy. It really, like, stays with you. So I'm really appreciative of that

I'm incredibly excited to be a part of Titanic. It's been one of my favorite shows since they opened in 97

I was a couple blocks away in The King and I in 96. And it's just, it's a wall of sound

You know, I think very, we don't get these big singing musicals anymore where it's a cast of 30, you know

and it's just an incredible group of people. Like Anne is leading an incredible creative team

and this cast. I mean, this cast is pretty deep. It always terrifying you know I mean uncours is terrifying You know when you sign up for it you sign up for something really exciting and terrifying

But, you know, it's so fun to, I mean, that sound, right

There are 32 incredible voices singing together. And when we add the 30 piece orchestra, people are going to lose their minds
