I can't believe it. I never could have imagined or expected, I mean, especially with the book

I never really thought I was capable of it. I doubted myself a lot

I thought I maybe wasn't smart enough or good enough to write it on my own

But I just kept hacking at it for so long. And so I feel it's just, yeah, it

means the world to me to be recognized in that capacity. So I was going to ask you what these nominations mean to you

It's a big deal. You fell in love with the theater at a very young age. We all did

I would watch the Tonys every year with my mom, just like crying, dreaming, like watching the performances

And I think I could just tell, even through the screen, sitting there in the middle of Vermont, what

a strong community it was. I could tell the love and support

And I would look in the names and the lyric booklets of my albums and just be like, I just

want to be a part of that group. That's what I really wanted. And the best part of finally being here

is that community is as loving and supportive and amazing as I always thought it was

It's just such a strong, strong sense of camaraderie between the shows

between all the artists. We all know what a hard life this is we chose

And so to just be a part of the communal celebration is everything to me

You know, everyone fell in love with this, the public. You did a lot of work on this show between the public and Broadway

That's a big deal. That's a major achievement. Thank you. I mean, and it's such a beautiful show here now

on Broadway. What's made this whole experience so special for you? It must be so many things

It's so many things. But I'm thinking today about all those years of work

And especially, I mean, so many years before the public, but then in the two years since the public, so much work

I mean, when it was sort of clear, when I realized how much more work I wanted to do on it

it was daunting. And it was those moments where I was like, can I really do this

Am I capable? Do I have the skills? Can I, do I have the energy? Can I, did I just pick something that was too hard

And, you know, hearing, you have to, as an artist, hear everyone's judgments and critiques

and that can be wounding. But I don't know, I felt, I sat back at the piano

and I just knew I could not stomach the thought of giving up. And I felt the women I was dramatizing did not give up

And they had way harder circumstances, way more setback. They were trying to change the Constitution

I'm just trying to write a musical, okay? And so it really, that is sort of the theme of our show

of like, it's gonna be hard, it's gonna be grueling, but you gotta keep marching

And so that is what I felt like I did on the show. So it feels really gratifying now
