Amy Herzog has done this whole new adaptation
0:02
Don't tell me. Why would you tell me? No, no, you know she's... What the hell? I love Ibsen adaptations starring succession cast members
0:09
with Amy Herzog affiliations. So this falls within the narrow, narrow, narrow
0:15
interest group for me. So, yeah, it's really exciting. It's opening night
0:21
How do you both feel tonight? I feel really excited to celebrate an opening night with my husband
0:26
We've done this before for, you know, when it was one of our plays and one of us was there in a supporting role
0:31
And tonight we're both here in a supporting role and it's both of our plays. Yeah, we've never we've never had an opening like this before
0:37
where it's where we get to sit together, both having worked on it. It's really fun
0:41
It sort of tickles us. It's a lot of young people seeing the show, a lot of young people
0:45
and a lot of people who've never seen a play before. The fact that they're coming to see an obscure Ibsen play
0:50
filled with a lot of complicated ideas and liking it. That's the best feeling
0:54
We're feeling really great. Tell me what's made this so special with you working on this production
1:00
Um, I mean, it's always a joy. Every production is its own special, unique world
1:05
And this one was so exciting. And the team doing this together, of course. And the rest of the team has just been such a delight to work with
1:11
Yeah. Yeah. The collaboration was just phenomenal. I think like all the departments working together
1:17
and of course with the actors, we just had such a great time. Yeah. Yeah
1:21
And also the challenge of the story, like having this very relevant story
1:25
from like a period piece. So we kind of like think about how we adapt that to today's day
1:31
like what is happening currently. So that's very exciting. Did you leave rehearsal to come here tonight
1:37
It worked out that this was on my one day off, so I couldn't imagine being anywhere else
1:42
I'm glad it worked out. Yeah. How excited are you to be here tonight for this
1:46
Oh, I can't wait. I can't wait. The rest of the cast from our show has seen it throughout the week
1:51
and they come in just speechless, basically. Also not trying to give spoilers away because I was seeing it tonight
1:57
So but everyone's just been gobsmacked by it and by the performances
2:01
and by Amy's adaptation, which, you know, I'm obviously a huge fan of her writing
2:06
So to see what she's done with this, I can't wait and and give them
2:09
give her a big squeeze in the morning. Michael Imperioli is a very good friend of mine, and I'm thrilled for him
2:15
This is his first Broadway show. Yeah. Yeah. And he's very excited and I'm excited for him
2:20
Besides, I think Ibsen is an important playwright. How much Ibsen did you do during your career
2:26
Have you done some Ibsen? Do you know? Yeah. I did the master builder once a long time ago and I'd like to do it again
2:34
But you always want to do the great parts again. You know. Yeah. How excited are you to be here tonight
2:39
I am. I'm very excited. I've been I wanted to come to the preview, as Michael said
2:43
No, wait till opening night. So I'm looking forward to him and Jeremy Strong and the rest of the cast
2:48
Michael told me it's going well. He's been working very hard. I'm very proud of him
2:53
We've done a lot of stuff together. And this is a big deal. He's this is his first Broadway show
2:59
So I'm excited for my friend. Tell me what it was like working with him on The Sopranos and actor to actor
3:05
What it was like working with Mike. You know, he's so much more than that mob guy
3:08
And that's the thing. Yeah. You know, people still think he's that Christopher guy
3:12
and he's nothing like that in real life. And he could do so much more. He's a writer and a director and he's just a wonderful guy
3:20
And he was great to work with. Just great. I love Amy Herzog's writing
3:25
I can't wait to see I can't wait to see what she's done with this piece. And yeah, I don't know
3:29
It's been a long time since I've seen the same gold play. Actually, I've managed to somehow like miss a lot of his work
3:34
So I'm excited. I'm absolutely thrilled. I love this play. I have loved this way for many, many, many years
3:39
I saw Ann Dowd do the one woman adaptation of it, but I haven't seen it professionally done otherwise
3:47
Oh, so I can't wait to see what Amy and Sam have done to it. It's like one of those plays that we
3:54
we are. It's not going to be hard to draw the connections right to this moment
3:58
at all, at all, to everything that we're dealing with in the world. And I'm excited
4:02
I'm excited to see it in the round, too. I haven't seen anything in this theater for a really long time
4:06
and just to be kind of immersed in it. So I'm so excited. I'm thrilled
4:10
I haven't seen Jeremy in a while, and I've never seen him in a play, even though I know I've heard so many stories about his wonderful work on stage
4:18
So I'm really excited to see that. And I love this play. And I'm really excited to see Amy's adaptation of it and all of that
4:26
I couldn't be more excited. Coming back to Circle in the Square is like coming back home for me
4:30
So a fun home. And of course, directed by Sam Gold, who is the director of this and his wife
4:36
First time working together, the two of them. Yeah, I mean, did you know this play well or do you know the play well
4:41
I remember reading it in school. I don't know that I've ever seen a production of it
4:45
So part of what I'm excited about is just seeing a production period, but also seeing Sam and Amy's iteration of it is really exciting
4:52
How excited are you to be here tonight? Very, very much. I know the play well. I did it as a radio broadcast one time
4:58
you know, five nights in front of an audience. But we thought it was it's a great play
5:03
Who did you play? The lead. I played the Jeremy Strong part. Yeah
5:07
I thought I knew this play really well until I saw this on Saturday. It's so relevant. Yeah
5:12
Well, that I did know. I knew how relevant it was. Yeah, it's unbelievable
5:16
But the nice thing is, Amy Hirschlaug has done this whole new adaptation. Don't tell me. Why would you tell me
5:20
You know she... What the hell? Oh, my God. You know she made the adaptation, don't you
5:25
Yes, but don't tell me what she did. I knew she wrote the adaptation
5:29
Jesus. But it's brand new. OK, so don't tell me. What are you, an idiot
5:36
You know that. But I mean, she's introducing a whole new... I don't want anybody..
