It's Tony Day, you've got a Tony pin
0:11
Just blow out your speakers. Is it surreal? It is, yes. This is starting to feel real, being here today, but it's a dream
0:24
Tell me a theater kid that grows up trying to, you know, dreaming of this and to have
0:28
it actually happen is, I basically haven't slept in 48 hours. And nor do you have to
0:36
What's made this show so special for you? I mean obviously going from workshops, seven years of my life on and off I've been a part
0:46
of a production or a piece of this, to take something to originate a role and go from
0:55
workshop to Broadway to a Tony nomination, like, that is amazing and that's the dream
1:05
I mean I don't know if it gets any better than that. It may
1:09
It could. But it's pretty cool. There's one silver little thing that could make it even better, but anyway
1:14
Oh, there's more along the journey? No, of course. Take me to your younger self
1:18
That first play you did, you could have been 10, 7, 8, tell me what the play was and what
1:23
would your older self tell your younger self now? So the first play I ever auditioned for was A Sleeping Beauty at a children's theater
1:31
in Alabama and I dragged my parents there and I was like, I'm gonna do this
1:36
And they were very like cautious with their disabled child being like, you might not be
1:42
what they're looking for! And I got cast at my first audition and so that probably fed into my mania and lunacy
1:53
that this is even possible. But I think what I would tell that younger self is that when you're in the background
2:03
you don't just say peas and carrots and watermelon. I think that was a big takeaway from that piece
